That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. The government in California thought these things should never been killed either so they ban hunting. Then they became overpopulated. So instead of opening hunting back for them, and allowing sportsmen to pay and put money into the government to enjoy the sport. They started using tax payers money to pay "sharpshooters" to execute the cats and bury them in holes with back loaders. You either balance nature it nature goes out of balance.

People in the comments don't seem to understand that this is the best way to get a mountain lion to move on from an area. If they are allowed to kill livestock and go unchallenged, they will continue to do so. And even if cougars in the area aren't a nuisance, the dogs still need practice and training.

Your dogs....they (Walker hounds?) they seem so small for mountain lion ...? I have two Catahoula and a Doberman and even they seem a bit small compared to a ML. (I live in N. California so I have and my dogs have, seen our share of ML's). I'm happy that she was of a predictable personality type of ML as she didn't go after your dogs. Happy you let the pregnant cougar live. She's minding her own business, not hurting no one and she's on her own turf. The hunter is on her landscape intruding on her life. All they want to do is eat and feed their babies.Look at the video "Mountain Lion and Me" interview with Casey Anderson. That should give a lot of hunters a lesson on cougars.

Hounds are no match for a puma when it comes to a fight. There are other dog breeds like Dogo Argentino, Kangal, Boz or Caucasian shepperd dog that can actually take down a mountain lion.
