Great reaction as always, thanks! "CMIYC" is probably the heaviest song about playing hide and seek... Yes, "Catch me if you can" is about playing hide and seek or tag... BUT... with an "oni", a sort of Japanese ogre. This was my very first BABYMETAL song, so it's very special to me. I'm glad you enjoyed it. And yes, this is definitely one of their heaviest songs but it also has one of their cutest choreos, including my personal favorite move: the infamous "Moa slide" (4:56 mark on your video). 🤣 It's great to know that you have music formation and knowledge so you are able to fully appreciate the musicians work. Definitely, BOH playing that 6 strings bass by finger is something you don't see every day. Until next time! 🤘🦊

I responded to jakemueller's thread with this, but he just deletes his post and reposts every time I ever correct him on anything. That they are playing hide and seek with an oni is a misconception. In Japan, the person who is the seeker in hide and seek is the "oni".

@@Hymnodic I know in the Japanese culture there is a day where kids throw soybeans at the oni so they won't "come near them." Maybe it's related to something like that.

@@Hymnodic Apparently they are "playing" with the "oni" meaning. Just check the lyrics right after "Miitsuketa": WOW WOW... Guru guru kakurenbo. Wow wow... Round and round, hide-and-seek. Aka-oni-san [voi!] ao-oni-san [voi!] Hey, red ogre, [voi!] hey, blue ogre, [voi!] [ii] suteppu suteppu! [wan tsuu, wan tsuu.] take your steps! [one, two, one, two.]: According to Du-metal: About Oni "Oni" are a kind of ogre-like monsters. Though oni are as cruel as ogres, Japanese people think they may have humanlike minds and hearts. Some legendary oni were brought up as human children, but excluded because of their supernatural-ness, and then became oni. About Kakurenbo and Onigokko Both are children's games. Kakurenbo is a kind of hide-and-seek and onigokko is a kind of tag. Both the seeker of seek-and-hide and the tagger of tag are called "oni" (= ogre) in Japan. In kakurenbo, oni counts up to a certain number while others hide. At reaching the number, oni calls "Moo ii kai?" (= Are you ready?). Those who are not ready respond "Maada da yo."(= not yet), those ready respond "Moo ii yo." (= Now I'm ready). If someone responds "not yet", oni calls again after a while, and when no one responds "not yet", oni starts to seek. And when oni finds one of the hiders, oni calls "(hider's name) miitsuketa." (= I've found ***). There are some variations for ending of the game. There are the melodies sung for these calls. Those of "maada da yo" and "moo ii yo" are sung in this song. Unlike in this song, "moo ii kai?" resembles "moo ii yo" and "miitsuketa" resembles "maada da yo". These melodies, however, are slightly different in regions. Since this lyric contains the words used for onigokko (e.g. "catch me"), I think the game as a mixture of kakurenbo and onigokko (= kakure-onigokko), and I translate "oni" to "tagger". In onigokko, when oni touches someone, that one then becomes oni. So, the "oni" as an ogre is literally in the lyrics.

Great reaction! This was the first concert (day-2) with the Kami Band as the full backing band. They appeared for encores only since 2012. Su (16), Moa (14), and Yui (14) are the youngest female artists to grace the stage of the prestigious Budokan. It has hosted many famous artists such as The Beatles, Queen, Ozzy Osbourne, Mariah Carey, and many more. You’ll find in their earlier works, that the cuter Babymetal were, the heavier the music became. It was truly an amazing combination that one can appreciate as they matured as artists over the years. 🤘🦊

They had a full Kami Band supporting them for all the songs during their BABYMETAL DEATH MATCH TOUR 2013 - May Revolution. No Babybones at those shows. There were four concerts, one in Ōsaka, the other three at Zepp DiverCity in Tokyo, all held in May of 2013. That was also the only time they've had a woman as a Kami Band member. That was MIZ, who played violin. Of course these concerts weren't filmed or released as DVDs or blu-rays.

Great reaction. 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni 👹(a sort of Japanese ogre popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... and the idea of that probably amuses me a lot more than it really should😁). The growling vocals (they are on a backing track) are the Oni👹 asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃‍♀🏃‍♀🏃‍♀👹 Kami means god or spirit, so the Kami Band are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL in all their live shows - which should also explain the traditional white burial robes and corpse face paint (since late 2017 the robes are black, since 2019 the face paint was replaced with masks). In order of solos that night they were Takayoshi Ohmura🎸and Leda Cygnus🎸on guitars, BOH on 6 string bass🎸and Hideki Aoyama on drums.🥁 This was their second night (Red Night and Black Night) at the Budokan in Tokyo in March 2014. The Budokan is a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics and now also one of the most prestigious venues for concerts in Japan (think Carnegie Hall or Madison Square Garden levels of prestige). It is where all Japanese artists aspire to play - not so many ever get to do that. BABYMETAL became the youngest ever female band to headline there (Su-metal the lead singer was just 16, Yuimetal and Moametal were both still only 14) and they sold it out 2 nights running as their first album was being or was about to be released. They returned in 2021 to play 10 more concerts as part of their 10th anniversary celebration.🦊

I like how they incorporate the "darker" or intense music to represent the oni as well as the growling vocals of course, it did make the audience (me) startle haha. And I know it was intentional so that was good! :D

This is always my favorite for introducing people to Babymetal because it features everyone. I like to hook people into the wonderful solos and then hit them with the child prodigies.

_Maada da yo!_ 🦊🤘👠 YuiMetal said she got afraid of this song, especially the intro (not the Kami Band intro) the very first few seconds with the steps and gongs, she got a hard time recording this, probably till this day she still have it.🍅😰 Last time they performed this was in August 2017 when the girls had 18 and 19 yo, and YuiMetal was still in the group. This song is among many BM fans one of the most representative of their kawaii metal sound, is heavy but is cute or kawaii at the same time with so much energy and crazy circle pits and mosh from the crowd, not on this performance but you'll see that in another. This was live at Budokan Arena 2014 reaching a huge milestone with only 14 and 16 yo, after this they started the World Tour and reaching the Sonisphere Festival. This time the Kami Band playing in order are: Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on that freaking monster 6-String bass, and Hideki Aoyama on drums. All of them are possessed by the Fox God the moment they step up on the stage, not joking around. This mind-blowing beautiful song is about hide & seek tag game, but isn't just any other regular child play, they're playing with an Oni, a mythological japanese creature human flesh eater 👹👀 This is heavy af. You can also noticed the punk section, many people reminds it the sound of some of the US rock punk like The Offspring or Green Day, and the heavy part got Slipknot riffs. Kami Band intro are rare and only on certain songs but throughout different live performance you'll hear slightly different changes because like i said, not always were the same members and even the same members sometimes change their solo a little bit. If you want another melting faces intro you should go for: - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at this same venue you just saw, is a SuMetal solo and I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it, "Kawaii Metal" got the clip. HaHa, way off on the ages. They formed BabyMetal at ages 11-12 in 2010. Everyone gets to show off in this song, the band, the dancers, the singer actually gets the least, The singer is a good girl and does not have a big ego while being the Queen of Metal. They are playing hide and seek. They even broke your stoic nature a few times. Compared to violin, guitar plays lots of arpeggios, the bass guy does more jazz...

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏃‍♀👹 If much of their charm is in the blending of the cute and the brutal, this song is a great example. While 'Megitsune' is still my favorite, this has one of the cutest choreographies. They performed this song quite a bit in 2017, but not since. The last time I saw this one was in Chula Vista, CA when they were on tour opening for Korn. This one really encapsulates BABYMETAL earlier history. Although there are other songs that do a better job of showing off Su's voice, it's nice to have one that also prominently featured Yui and Moa.

Great reaction. You had a bit of the Kawaii vibe going yourself there with all the expressions you had while you were watching the video. We could probably almost HEAR you thinking the Wah.. huh, hah, uh, etc as they kept shifting in and out of the growls and the cutsie Kawaii voices. You're right that this one is less singing and more dancing and running around. I imagine this one is a bit of fun for the girls to do because of all the movement, but it's probably one that saps a lot of energy from them too lol Yes you are correct they are obviously much younger in this video. Just to help you out, none of the girls are in their 30s yet lol Su-Metal, the old one who's the vocalist was born in 1997. Thus when you see some of their concerts with the title Legend 1997, they aren't referring to the year the concert was recorded, but rather its a concert that was celebrating Su's brithday as the Legend 1997 concert was performed the day after her birthday. Moametal and Yuimetal (again you are correct one of the girls from this video DID leave, it was Yuimetal. She's the one with the chubby baby cheeks) were both born in 1999 and are roughly a year and a half younger than Su-metal. Yui and Moa are best friends and if you follow Babymetal enough you'll eventually get to the Sakura Gakuin videos and you'll see Moa and Yui are ALWAYS together. You couldn't separate the two. Nor would you want to anyhow, they're too cute together. Anyways, enjoyed that reaction and looking forward to more! Keep up the great work!

@@lilyanyan yea they HAVE been at it for a while now! So it's understandable you'd think they are in their 30s, but as I mentioned, they started VERY young. They even began training for Babymetal even younger! I think Moa and Yui were 10 years old or something along those lines when they began their Babymetal training lol

Su-metal, the lead singer, was born in 1997 while Yuimetal and Moametal, were both born in 1999, so the girls were between 14-16 yo during this performance. Momometal who is the newest member that took over Yui's spot (she left due to health reasons) was born in 2003.🤘🦊🤘

This is one of my favorite songs off their first album. Su is 26 right now, she is 16 in this video. Moa is 24, and was 14 here. Yes, Yui is their former member. I definitely recommend the most recent guide if you want to learn about the girls and the events surrounding them.
