Looks like fun! Kingfish make for great sashimi (hamachi). Give it a try. Here's a cooking tip. Boil up some linguini and add a good marinara sauce. Throw in some snapper, mussels, and abalone. Seafood pasta is the best. Add a little parmesan cheese and you are eating in style!

Kingfish take their food head first normally like so many species. Loosen your drag a tad. Try putting the hook in the Kahawai just in front of the top dorsal fin, just like you do land based fishing. Snagging fish is not good fishing ethics in my opinion. Say hi to grandparents from us down here. Hope their well.
