@@sebag.001 I mean yes but mexicana are bigger
@sebag.0015 ай бұрын
@@Josuelzoo the size difference is 1-2mm for the queens. And a tiny bit more for the largest majors, which you won't see until the colony gets to a fairly decent size. Essentially, you won't really be able to tell the difference until you put them side by side.

@@sebag.001 isn't Mexicana like 30mm queens? Texana is like 18mm

@@Josuelzoo mexicana are 24-26mm, texana are like 20. The biggest difference is in the soldiers, texana's largest workers are only about 13mm where mexicana's are up to 19mm

ant noob here, but isnt it possible to put a king an a queen together to have higher chances?
@samrockwallgunship5 ай бұрын
the males die after mating, like instantly
@ColorfulAnts5 ай бұрын
So basically there are no kings within ants, only males also know as drones. Termites do in-fact have kings and queens though.
@TheVikget5 ай бұрын
@@ColorfulAnts ofc, i ment if you put a male and a female drone together. Like, scoop them up and put them in the cointainer for a while, may have a higher chance of mating and therefore have a higher chance of a fertilized queen.
@ArthropodAntics5 ай бұрын
@@TheVikget with some ants, males will mate with queens extremely readily, and you can basically just throw a male and female together and they will mate. Most species, though, including Atta mate while airborne, and will refuse to mate on the ground. So they won't mate if you put them next to each other, they need to both be in flight.
