After further inspection we can tell its day by looking at the bottom right, its foggy and the season is autumn, maybe spring. He's not using bait since it would show when he has his rod equipped.

Hes using nocturnal rod which can catch both day and night exclusive fishes, so if u use other rod you can only catch the squid at night
