When I lived in South Texas, I would spend Friday nights after work on Padre Island in my car, a Volkswagen Bug with a custom front bumper with Steel rod holders on it. Then I would spend all day Saturday, fishing. Made many a meal out of Whiting. Before I found out they were actually called Whiting, that’s what I called them.

The bucket was seawater is the best temporary storage while you're catching on the beach, when all the tackle in the rods are put away then they go on ice

@@mr.worthington6201 I can't claim to be the first to do this, but it's a solid practice. It's part of just getting your gear set up and ready to fish get a big bucket fill it with some seawater and bring it up. Many times when beach fishing and especially for pompano, you get into a school of fish and you got no time to play. Tulsum in the bucket, rebate your hooks and get your line back out there. Pompano are funny, they'll stay alive a long time in a bucket of seawater while you're fishing, in eliminating steps so you can focus on catching is always the goal. Can't be going back and forth to a cooler with ice every time you catch a fish on the beach
