Omg I didn’t know you uploaded this! I got no notification or anything like that, I’m surprised! So I’m a bit late. My comment was ridiculously long last time so I’ll tone it down a bit. People do have their own versions of peeta because we only see parts of him from Katniss’ view and not at all for how he is by himself but I never saw him as contradicting to how he is the original series tbh. I do think peeta is a people person, but his distance with his family at the beginning makes complete sense with his character to me, especially combined with all the trauma he went through. It’s interesting to me to see before how he kind of made excuses for his family’s behaviour before the games and then his family kind of accepted his death, in fact his mother basically praised Katniss instead and said she could be a winner right in front of him. The fact that he survived and at this point there was no risk of dying anymore and all the hurt he feels… it just comes out with him shutting himself off from everyone. Even feeling angry at his dad for being passive when his mother would hit him, he just feels so lonely and unloved at this point and I think Katniss rejection really made those feelings worse. I really like the addition of Peeta’s younger cousins with their abusive alcoholic dad. It is interesting how he feels protective over them and willing to help them, and their situation gives him a chance to bring up his anger of hitting kids to his parents to pull them up as well. Plus I love that part when Peeta is distancing himself, he meets prim and she tries to help him since she barley sees him around anyone and that wouldn’t be good for his mental health after everything. One thing that I wish that we got was more with Peeta’s brothers? Even just one conversation. I feel like his brothers, especially Ryan who he wrestled with who is more angry and rebellious because of his family, and didn’t volunteer for him. It seemed like they had a bigger set up in the first one but then we never properly see them again. Like I would’ve liked Peeta to talk to them and find out if they felt guilty at all with what happened and how they did nothing, did they miss him? That part could’ve been explored more to me. I do love seeing all the romance parts (especially the additional ones) in peeta pov, just because to him he sees it differently and it means more to him than it does in Katniss pov. I do weirdly like seeing Gale and Peeta interactions, I wish it wasn’t cut so short I kinda want to know what Gale wanted to say. I don’t like gale for many reasons but I don’t hate him as much as a lot of people do and I find him quite facilitating I’m certain ways. There are small gale and Peeta interactions in Peeta’s mockingjay pov that I actually think were a great addition in the real or not real segments. Cause even though gale tries his best to, like he says I’m catching fire to Katniss about how it would be better if peeta was easier to hate, even he knows he’s too likeable. Also with the part you mentioned with his stylists calling him hot and asking if he works out, I’m surprised you didn’t bring up how the stylists when they said that mentioned about how they could’ve… sold Peeta’s body just like they do with finnick and were uncomfortably feeling up him while prepping him and Peeta felt so uncomfortable he put on his robe and asked Portia what they meant. I think it was important to add because peeta isn’t really around when finnick tells his story later on about how attractive victors are treated. I really adore in these fics his relationship with Portia, I honestly think I got just as attached to it as Katniss and cinna. Her being one of the only people who put him first since the beginning, and her interest in his art and encouraging him and showing each other their sketchbooks. It’s just such a nice relationship, and the fact that as peeta is going in the games he sees the look of fear on Portia’s face and we don’t know if it’s cause she heard what happened to cinna or hears people coming for her. I do also get what you mean with being more bothered about mags, but I feel like I’m general peeta in these games in comparison has detached himself in a way and has a bit more of a career mindset that he is trying to focus on Katniss and how he shouldn’t allow himself to care as much. He obviously still does, but even though he likes finnick we can tell he’s still less attached to him than Katniss is. I think the part after Katniss and Peeta separated in Peeta’s pov was insane as well, the fact he’s that mad and scared that he ignores beetee and finnick and runs away and if he listened to them he’d probably be saved with them. It was so heartbreaking when Peeta sees chaff, it’s a nice detail how unlike Katniss, peeta was thinking of him more and keeping an eye out for him for Haymitch and chaff asking if it was time yet before dying to Brutus. Like it makes sense since chaff knew about the rebellion plan and he was so close to making it to end and that’s what set peeta off to kill someone in the most brutal way he has ever done. I was expecting peeta to quickly break Brutus’ neck since that’s how I saw it in my head, but I felt like this makes more sense with the build up of Peeta’s career training before the quell since we never get to see him use it in Katniss pov. The fact that peeta killed someone so strong in a way you’d never think of him, cutting Brutus arm down to the bone, just like how Cato did with his leg and was able to dodge Brutus’ attacks and stab him in the stomach and then slit his throat. It’s the first time we see how powerful peeta can be when he’s mad and at his limit, the combination with the stress of the situation with Katniss and seeing chaff die and knowing Haymitch saw. Omg nvm what I said earlier… I did write a whole add essay lmao… oh well! I really really hope you read and do a video on ‘the mutt!’ I understand not wanting to read it because it’s painful but it’s so good! But I do love that angst. It felt like a different experience than the others to me, it was written in a different style structure than the rest. I was a bit surprised at first cause I wasn’t expecting it like that, but it fits so well with you as a reading really feeling Peeta’s confusion and questioning reality. It’s an interesting way to go since peeta is absent for a lot of mockingjay, and it’s different cause his pov is warped now compared to before cause of his hijacking and the transitioning into slowly start coming into himself was so sad but cool! I think it would be worth finishing even though it hurts!

THERE IS SO MUCH I NEED TO SAY TO THIS: I adore you comments, I just pinned this because EVERYONE needs to read it! Absolutely agree, I love that you went more into why, as emotional as Peeta is, why he is so distant and emotionally withdrawn from his family. It all leads back to his trauma, which has made his current trauma worse. Because he was SO lonely in the games, which he had felt his entire life. Yeah! We don't have a conversation with Ryan, it would've been interesting to see what their conversation would've been like. I think the lack of closeness to his family make his relationship with Katniss even better. & the interactions with Gale are SO intriquing. I really wish we got to hear the rest of their conversation!!! I'm looking forward to their conversations in the 3rd one! You honestly should make these videos instead of me lol! I didn't mention about the rest of their conversation about selling his body with his stylists because I didn't make that connection that he had no idea what they meant. & it's strange how casual the capitol is, how that is was good to be attractive enough to sell yourself. I really hope we get to see more or Portia, but I hope she didn't met the same fate as Cinna. I guess I'll just have to read the 3rd one haha! I'm so slow at getting to them! So true about him being a career mindset in the games. I guess the only person he attaches himself is to Katniss, so in her POV I thought of him as more of an attached person but the scenes were all pretty much cannon so there isn't much that would've shown he was emotional about it. He was trying to just survive to keep her alive. I didn't mention Chaff either! Ugh! But yes, I loved seeing his strength at the end. & his fight with Brutus shows how Peeta isn't weak, but an amazing fighter. Because Katniss was so scared of Brutus we wouldn't have known he was defeated by Peeta. I will definitely finish the Mutt, no promises when! But I look forward to your "essay comment" when I do post it 😆😉 THANK YOU FOR THIS!

We need to realize that the hunger games is told from Katniss' pov and Katniss is an in u reliable narrator. So how we picture Peeta is gonna be scewed through her lense. All of our Peeta's are gonna be different but I choose iggygraces' Her choices of character are more realistic to me. You should finish the series although back to twelve is kinda long imo and should've been a duel perspective

I almost never cry while reading, and I pride myself on that! Not really, but it’s a personal challenge :P (Cry people! It’s good to let feelings out!) I can count how many times I’ve cried while reading a book on one hand. Once was many years ago when I read the Buttercup scene at the end of Mockingjay. That was absolutely devastating to read, because it’s the first chance in the story both you and Katniss get to grieve, but it’s such a beautiful scene and shows the ugly sides of grief nobody likes to talk about. And then igsygrace came along and made me cry at a book for the first time in years with the first couple of chapters of Throwing Sparks. I never would have expected that fanfiction could be so well written that it could make me ugly cry, but here we are. Seeing Peeta’s inner struggles, loneliness, PTSD, nightmares, feelings of guilt (being borderline suicidal, wishing he HAD died) and grief at losing his leg is brutal. Him not wanting to blame Katniss, yet still feeling hurt by her actions and STILL being in love despite all that made my heart ache for him so bad. The confrontation he has with his dad at the bakery broke me as well. The saddest part to me might’ve been him getting drunk on moonshine with his friends to try and numb the pain, despite having said that he refused to turn to drinking to cope like Haymitch. Also, even when he’s doing that, he feels so isolated from the friends in the room with him, because he simply can’t relate to them anymore. My favourite part of the book, as well as another part that made my eyes watery, was Peeta’s thoughts about Katniss in the arena, especially in the build up to and during the beach scene. His realising Katniss realised she genuinely loved him made my cynical old heart so happy. I’ve loved your two videos on this series. I’m glad Peeta’s getting the appreciation he deserves in recent years. I genuinely strive to be as genuinely kind and loving (without expecting anything back) as him in my relationships. Have you considered doing a video on The Mutt? I’d love to see your thoughts on it. It’s so well written, but at the same time a struggle to read simply because of how tough / heartbreaking the content is. (Edit to add: How did I forget to mention the part after the District 11 speech. Seeing how alone he feels, his resentment for being the ‘leftover tribute’ (and feeling conflicted, because that’s what he wanted) and his anger at his situation and Katniss and Haymitch’s actions boiling over. I physically felt that anger and rage he felt in that moment, and immediately feeling regret for feeling that way. The part that hit me like a gut punch was Peeta thinking that that was the first time he ever felt that Katniss’ voice was annoying. It showed just how mad he was in that moment. Also, “so this is how it feels to be loved by Katniss Everdeen” and “the secret to being Peeta Mellark” made me embarrassingly happy)

I always love to imagine what the games would have been like if Katniss hadn’t been there like I really do believe Peeta would have still won for sure. If Katniss hadn’t volunteered for Prim even though there’s really no alternative universe where that could’ve happened I imagine that Peeta would be the Katniss to her Rue and do absolutely everything he could to keep her alive.

I have not read the original trilogy in years. Reading Peeta's Games and Throwing Sparks made me realize actually how much was left out of the movies. I love Peeta in the films, he is my favourite character. But I am obsessed with the book version of Peeta (especially reading his fanfic version). He is kind, protecting, devoted, loyal in both versions but man his flirtatiousness and inner thoughts really made him even more likable. I also forgot how different Katniss is in the books...first off shorter than Peeta but also a lot more fragile emotionally and seems a lot more feminine (but maybe it is because we are seeing her through Peeta's eyes). I look forward to reading the last of the Peeta fanfic series ("The Mutt") but now would also love to read a Haymitch version of the books. Seeing his point of view as a mentor, the Tour, working with Plutarch and the other tributes on the rebellion...would be so fascinating to see in Haymitch's POV

Seeing Peeta try to pick himself back up after everything that happened to him is so hard to read but so inspiring, at least for me and I think for other people who have struggled with trauma and experiences that left them different once thay managed to get through them. The resolution of this book was beautiful and just the perfect hopeful ending I think these characters deserve after all the pain they had to endure. I started reading it today and while I ABSOLUTELY hated 50 shades from Christian Grey perspective, the Hunger Games from Peeta persepective I can't get enough of, so much I adore the concept, and maybe it's the two authors, two characters with two diffrent personality - Katniss being more analitical and for some way depressive in a sence as a protagonist of dystopian novel, meanwhile Peeta has his way with words, he's the artistic one who at first is a sunshine, but after hurt he is also depressive like Katniss, but not it the same way as her, he's more "smiling depressive" - hiding his hurt just for the sake of happininess of his loved ones. And seeing Panem through those two lences is so interesting. Maybe my useless dreams, but how fun it would be for Collins to awknowlage this series. Or for this series to get printed...
