Catching Fish all day, 50+ FISH, they were THICK

Bottom Fishing, in this video we'll be Fishing out of Ponce Inlet about 7 miles offshore.
The day was perfect, seas flat and lots of FISH. We started the day heading offshore but stopped on one of our closer spots to see if the weakfish were there and they were, we loaded up. #weakfish #fishbites #bottomfishing

Never heard of a weekfish! They look like a cross between a speckled trout and a white trout! I’m 54 been fishing in southeast Louisiana since I could walk and never heard of one! Good video! Kelly

When I lived in New Jersey I used commercial fish for them in the fall but that was in the 60's. That's what they look like to me now like you said, a cross between a speckled trout and a white trout but I think they're better eating and the meat is firmer. We catch them every year in Florida. I never saw a speckled trout when I was young until I visited Florida I thought they were Weakfish lol.

I’m an old folk almost old as you guys. Unfortunately I hate fishy wishy fish except for swordfish. The crabs you catch are my favorite food though. Ed, I was about 7 miles offshore and just checked the screen for them and drifted, on my recorder they show as a yellow line right on the bottom, that's what I look for. They usually show up every year and they're very good eating.

Do weakfish get mushy like sandtrout? Doubling up. You have plenty of fish to last for awhile.

Weakfish are called speckled trout in a lot of the Gulf Coast states, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. Yes, the get mushy.

Weakfish are firmer and freeze better than sand trout (white trout). We make fish cakes out of sand trout and they freeze well.

We have containers and sometimes use them, but when we're catching a lot of fish the bait just gets thrown on the deck. After a day fishing (and we catch fish) the boat is always a mess. We're just messy lol. Thanks for Watching

Ya gotta use circle hooks in the ocean cause of the red snapper ?? Stripers have started on fish finders rigs with bloods in back bays at high tides...... be well.

You have to use circle hooks when fishing for reef fish, but we use them most of the time because I believe we don't lose as many fish.

I know Jacksonville is the southern end of their range, but how common are weakfish in the Jacksonville area?

They are south of Jacksonville. All the way down to the Keys. All along the Gulf coast from Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and into Mexico.

You should have no problem finding them in the Jacksonville area, the easiest way to find them is to get on some good bottom and drift.

Are you sure those are weakfish? I’m pretty sure those are spotted sea trout. If they have spots in the dorsal fin they are spotted sea trout. And they have to be 15” and you can only keep 5 or so depending on your area

They're definitely weakfish, I used to commercial fish for them and caught thousands of pounds. In Florida for some reason there is no size limit and you can keep up to 100lbs. As far offshore as we were you don't catch spotted sea trout. Thanks a lot for Watching

Dionne, we retired when we were 72 we're 76 now. First I was a commercial fisherman, then we had a welding shop the last 30 years we had a window repairing shop (glass, screens and window parts). We also are rockhounds and do some gold prospecting (never found a lot lol,).

I really like watching the two of you !!!! We used to catch loads of Weakies fishing out of Fortescue NJ (about 60 years ago). Sad to say...those days are over...Now a days you can only keep one (1) and it has to be 13 inches. That's my favorite fish!!! But I will say that I'm happy to see you guys filling up the cooler!! They're Weakfish, the same as they catch up north and some White Trout. When I lived in New Jersey we would load up with them in the fall but that was in the late 60's and 70's but not now.

Not trying to be rude but they have a minimum length of 17 inches in Texas . Slot 17-23 those ones are mostly little. But, no limit so load em up. I would. Lol. There so tasty.

I didn't know you had weakfish in Texas, though you just had spotted sea trout and white trout. In Florida there is no size limit on weakfish and a 100 lb bag limit.

I thought the Sand Trout were near shore mostly fish. You Must be in at least 50' catching the Red Snapper. Unless there are way more Snapper than the NOAA diverse hires have calculated. They seem to have somehow come up with a 1/3 reduction in the quota for 23. At least for the U.S. Citizens. The Exporters probably got a Increase .

We were in about 65' of water. We caught sand trout at that spot all the way inshore to the Intercoastal. The same in the Gulf. And you're right there's Red Snapper everywhere.
