Catching Keeper Pompano, My BEST Day Yet Fishing With Lures

My BEST day of Pompano fishing yet in Florida. Brightly colored lures are very attractive to these fish. I've been catching them consistently now from the jetties for two weeks. Experienced fisherman in this location say that the Pompano won't be here much longer due to the water temperatures rising. The two lures that these fish are very attracted to are goofy, silly jigs and teaser flies. There seem to be certain colors of these lures that they like the most. From my experience they are attracted to pink, yellow and bright green.

All in all on this fishing trip I managed to catch:
-Ladyfish
-Jack Crevalle
-Spanish Mackerel
-Pompano
All of the different species were caught using the brightly colored banana jigs and teaser flies. The best choices of lure colors to use were pink, yellow and green.

One new thing I noticed is that on those pomp jigs - you use an aggressive jig (single snap up) stroke. That is very helpful to see. I would not have popped that jig stroke so hard, but you were getting nice success with it!!! Also, it seemed that the upper teaser jig was getting hit just as often if not a little more than the bottom. Really interesting. Great video!

Man, I love Mackerel. if they were legal they would have been in my belly by now. Nice Pomp too. That yellow braid shows up nicely in the video. I saw that dolphin messin around out there. Funny how some day they mostly hit the teaser and then other days they mostly hit the jig. Would loved to have been there that day. A good days fishing for sure.

Nice day of fishing JC! Speaking of those Osprey. I was once fishing the beach side of that inlet where you caught that mackerel when out of nowhere an osprey comes out of the sky and grabs one of those little birds that hang out on the rocks. The bird was obviously scared and squawking as the osprey flew away with it. I imagine it was made into the ospreys lunch. Felt bad for that little bird.

Thanks for watching. I hooked two dolphins this week and actually saw one nab some guy's Spanish Mackerel he was reeling in on top water. In an upcoming video where one grabbed a mackerel, all I got back was the mackerel's bottom jaw.

@@RadReelingFishing addicted to pomps cool cool. Try this rig. Tie/tight line two crappie style marijobo jigs about a foot apart then have a sinker at the bottom of the rig. Cast it out let it sink to the bottom. Reel up to tighten the line then violently twitch the tip leaving the sinker on the bottom. I run a chartreuse jig and a white body orange head jig. The pomps go wild for this set up.

I'm curious how come you don't another teaser with the jig? In the Tampa Bay area, the pompano hit the teaser 90% of the time. Something about the teaser fluttering makes the pompano go crazy.
@RadReelingFishing

Thanks for watching and asking. What you've said is really smart because it gives you two hooks to catch them with in one spot on the rig...The reason I rig mine that way is because it works for me. . It seems like Pompano fisherman all have their ways of rigging things. What I've learned is when the Pompano school is swimming through they hit just about any rig. This week I've seen guys catch them on jigs with the teaser attached to the jig. I saw one guy catching them like crazy with two jigs about fourteen inches apart and the bottom one had a teaser attached to it. I've watched other guys catch them on just the jig. They have also been hitting a multitude of different colors, yellow, pink, red, bright green and even white jigs and teasers.

John Glinatsis large boat wake stirs up the water, even close to the bottom. This churns up whatever food source may be on the bottom, including crabs and sand fleas which pomps eat.
@RadReelingFishing
@RadReelingFishing 5 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting observation. I actually have been surprised at catching them as the boats pass by but never considered that the traffic was prompting them to be more active. What's really weird is sometimes these Pompano are hanging out right in the center of the pass on the bottom. It's got to be about twenty feet deep there or more. I wonder if it's the water temperature that they are attracted to in some of these spots? I also am wondering if they are in the inlets to spawn? Many of the ones I've cleaned are full of row.
@1997wolverine

@John Glinatsis I have observed the same thing and asked other fisherman about it. They claim they did not notice this trend.Don't know if we are just more observant or just marking our strikes wrong.

So what I don’t get is when your KZbin followers ask you where you catching pompano at, you tell them you don’t reveal your spots 99% of the time. Don’t forget that it’s your followers who help get you all those views on KZbin so that you can monetize from them. What’s the use of posting fishing videos if you’re not going to share your spots. KZbin is a great platform for People wanting to learn something new these days. In the mist of this COVID crisis a lot people are looking for something that will bring them some joy and excitement. More and more people are taking up the hobby of fishing, but when you don’t reveal your spots so that people can actually go out and catch fish you create false hope for that individual. At first, I liked watching your videos, but then when one of your followers asked you nicely about a fishing spot, you let him down telling him you don’t reveal your spots. I’m a retired firefighter and one of the slogans I always live by is learn, teach, lead. If the purpose of your videos is to teach and show people where to catch fish then practice what you preach. I have to say it really makes you look bad and stick out like a sore thumb when other KZbinrs reveal their spots without any hesitation at all. I started following fish on and Thonny because they reveal their spots and want people to go out and catch fish. I will be unfollowing you for now until you practice what you preach. Have a good day

I teach people that Pompano can be found in the major inlets of SW Florida during the spring and fall. Just go to any of them and catch Pompano...I also have videos that teach how to rig for Pompano, how to tie your own teasers on a budget, and one that reveals Pompano catching secrets. Revealing exact locations is disrespectful to the local angling community. The jetty area has several regular guys and girls that fish there almost every day. I am friends with several of them. It's not right for me to announce to 30,000 people where the Pompano are biting so that the locals have to deal with the spot being over crowded with people traveling from all over. Have you seen the ridiculous crowds of people fishing Sebastian Inlet since the popular KZbinrs started announcing that location. The place is elbow to elbow, pathetic if you ask me. Personally, I would have never know about Sebastian Inlet if KZbinrs hadn't posted videos announcing that location. Not announcing locations 99% of the time is a standard that I've set for this channel. Trust me, I've posted videos of catching big Snook and didn't announce the location, the next day there were 15 locals lined up all along the shore fishing for the big Snook. If I'd announced the location there would have been 50 people lined up on the shore; my moma didn't raise no fool.
