It's called an index and it's easy to track scores and get one. These guy's aren't being super specific. it's literally the way to calculate and track your abilities.

I once knew a low handicapper that was a frustratingly short hitter, but he had the short game of a magician. I NEVER bet against him bc he would wear you down and beat you every time.

Great vid. You know this shows that if you are playing someone with a significantly better handicap you shouldn’t get intimidated. It’s golf, anything can and will happen and at worst you might learn something.

Exactly. Especially playing only 6 holes. According to the handicaps, Conor should be about 7 strokes worse than Will, the guest. But reduce that shit down to 6 holes, that's only a theoretical 2.3 strokes of difference between their game. And handicaps are just an average over time, so you can definitely play a few strokes better than your handicap, or a few strokes worse, on any given day.

Not flawed. It’s designed specifically to be representative of your better days on the course. That way, you only get rewarded when playing against others on a good day of golf. It wouldn’t be fair or useful to reward people for an average day

So...have you played in a golf league? Handicaps are flawed and screw better players. Ii loved going up against single digit guys, as about an 11. One year my 4 best rounds in league gave me a 4 handicap for the playoffs...I was giving dudes strokes on par 3s. Absolute garbage.

Yes, the handicap system is flawed, but I don't know how you can really do a handicap system that actually equalizes the playing field. I used to be a very low handicap player (+3.4) and for a while played a lot of handicap tournaments. It was virtually impossible to win a handicap tournament. In some cases, even breaking a course record would not even put me within 3 or 4 strokes of the leaders. It is much easier for a high handicap player to beat his/her handicap score than it is for a very low handicap player. To just meet my handicap I would have to shoot a 68 (on a par 72 course). To break it just by 2 strokes (which is super easy for a 15 handicap player) I would have to shoot a solid 66. I have played in tournaments where a 20 handicapper would beat their handicap by 15 strokes, which would be impossible for a +3 or +4 handicap player. Consequently I stopped playing in handicap tournaments and only played scratch tournaments, where I had much better success. Now I am older, haven't played much the past several years, so now my handicap has gone up significantly. I could probably play handicap tournaments again .. it's good to suck at golf .. LOL

I always like the guy you're playing golf with, prior to you never met. It's normal to ask what his handicap is. He'll say he's a five but not playing up to it. I'm going WTF, I'm gonna tell him I'm scratch but not playing up to it. 5:30 Most handicaps are determined on match play and not stroke play. Which makes it hard to evaluate a true handicap. But not by twelve strokes

Absolutely is a 4.7, very solid fundamentals. I think even a 14 and 10 playing a scramble is very hard for a 5 index to beat. Often, 4 stacks of 10 handicaps fire -14+ in scrambles. You guys should play these matches best ball. Just saying.

Handicap system is better than using average score. Remember average score doesn’t take into consideration the difficulty of the course or what tee boxes you played, or weather or anything else. Handicap system does. While it’s not perfect it’s definitely better than using average to compare 2 players. If I average 80 playing off the front tee boxes and you average 85 playing the tips… am I really a better golfer than you by 5 strokes? Not a chance.

Will is legit. He had some good swings and clearly has the distance with long clubs, which will make his next approach shots with low irons more likely and thus scoring better. Definitely needs to work on his short game (which he was doing when they found him). The chip on 5 I would have taken a little lower lofted club and ran the ball out more as he wasn't far from the green. His handicap will drop when he fixes/fine tunes chipping and putting. Also, Adam played well

No the system isn’t flawed. Handicap is your potential. A players that shoots a bunch of mid to high 70s round, offset but a 90s round is not the same player as one that consistently shoots mid 80s but never breaks 80. Only thing wrong with handicap is sandbaggers but you will never fix that in local competition.

The way the USGA handicap works, your average is about 1 in every 5 rounds you’ll cover your handicap….or lower. Too many variables to be consistent, which only the pros and very elite players like celebs or former pro athletes who can also afford trainers every day.
