I actually prefer sand crabs to mud crabs but unfortunately they are few and far between where I live in North Queensland.

Enjoying the video mate, I live palm beach on the Gold Coast. The only place I’ve caught sand crabs is up at the jumping pin. I’ve caught plenty of mud crabs on the tally creek , but no sandys . Would you be so kind to fill me in where your catching those sandys on the Gold Coast

Hi Andy, I catch them anywhere along the edge of the foreshore from paradise point to Loders creek, by boat. I usually drop my pits in a minimum of 2.5 mtrs deep at low tide along the edge of the main channels. You will catch 90% of your crabs overnight. This tone of the year is risky due to many pits being stolen or raided. But you can catch them there all year round

Nice one man, my granddad and I let the crabs run around the boat while we deal with the pots either packing them up or rebaiting them, easier for us to measure and sex when they are hiding in the corners 😂

Hi Doug. Great video. When you say the crab is full. What does that mean?

Crabs change their shells so they make a new one and get rid of old one. The new one is over sized so they grow into it, which means at that time there is free room in it and is not full and won't have much meat in it. A crab that has had its shell for a while will have filled it up (grown into it) and the older shell will be darker, rougher etc

Thanks for making this. I'm just starting do some crabbing so this video has given me a lot of useful info regarding how to handle them! Thanks again 😊 By the way you wife did an awesome job on the video. Very clear and steady not like a lot of other bozos! Congrats.

Hi Don, sorry the last message I sent you was late and tired so it was a little short for words. Welcome to send through some pictures of your catches if your get amongst the crabs but you may have to wait till it warms up a bit mate.
