Coyote, I have a really important question. Earlier today, my classmate found a lizard who's eyes were bleeding and bloody. I took it home and it is doing better, however it's eyes are still bloody and closed, and I have good reason to believe it is blind, at least for now. What should I do to take care of it until I release it? P.S. If you see this, I would greatly appreciate it if you liked it so Coyote will see. Thank you. I just got reminded about this so I’d like to clarify that it was a western fence lizard and this is not normal behavior for them. Also I was 11 years old at the time lol
@BraveWilderness6 жыл бұрын
Hi this is Coyote writing, if its a horned lizard that is natural, its a defense mechanism and just let the lizard go and it will be fine. If its not a horned lizard than i have never heard of a lizards eyes bleeding and it sounds bad:( Id suggest letting it back into the wild and letting nature take its natural course, hopefully it will heal and be just fine!

Did half of you not pay attention to the video, and get distracted by the "cute" sea turtle? 1. Coyote and the crew didn't just hop on boats and chase after sea turtles. They're with a group of wildlife researchers who collect data on the turtle's populations. 2. Their job is to tag the turtles, not spend their entire day removing barnacles. I'm sorry if you think that's wrong, but collecting data/tagging as many turtles as possible is way more beneficial to them than cleaning off barnacles that will probably return. 3. Humans are destroying their populations, humans are destroying the Great Barrier Reef, and nothing is going to change because corporate greed/politics doesn't really have the well being of wildlife in mind.

Cayote: " Shhh, budy, it's ok! " My heart: " 🥺🥺 " Me literally crying like: " 😭 "
To everyone saying "YOU SHOULD'VE TANKEEN OFF THISE BARANCLES YOU BIG MEANIE FATHEAD" Barnacles don't hurt the turtle. Most species, like the ones on the turtle, are NOT parasites, and are instead filter feeders. They latch onto an animal and filter the water to find food. They don't hurt the turtle, and if they removed them, they'd be murdering harmless critters. If the whole point of this channel is to help and protect animals, why would they murder them?
@virtuallycomatosed6 жыл бұрын
Ziggy1 AJ hey, you ok? I was just about to ask about those barnacles myself before reading your comment. I completely understand what you're saying, but it would of been nice for Coyote to mention them himself as the barnacles were pretty obvious to everyone and people, myself included dont know if they're beneficial to the turtle or not. Xx
@thepiousskull6 жыл бұрын
Excessive amounts of barnacles on turtles can most certainly be harmful to them. Their movement can be slowed or greatly impeded making them more vulnerable to predators and other potential hazards as well as depleting their energy when swimming. They can also attach themselves over the eyes or nostrils which is also highly detrimental for obvious reasons. They are in no way beneficial to turtles (or any other creature they attach themselves to) and can prove extremely harmful if they attach themselves to certain areas of the turtle's body or if they are present in large numbers.
@belladarla11306 жыл бұрын
Barnacles also grow in large clumps if they’re not removed. Some can interfere with the turtles eye sight and slow down swimming or get stuck on nets etc as they’re rough.
@dineshmuciliathjayadevan16356 жыл бұрын
Barnacles are not parasites, agreed. Yet, they affect the turtles worse than parasites. The barnacles breed and build up on the turtle's shell, effectively causing a lot more drag, reducing their swimming efficiency. There are cases (you can watch them in KZbin itself) where the barnacle build up is so big that it crippled the turtle's vision and ability to freely swimming around. So, having brought the turtle all the way up to the boat, why not take a knife, spend about 10 minutes, and remove the barnacles?

@@sumi4684 Sea turtles have a complex relationship with their epibionts. Sea turtles might be directly harmed by some epibionts, while benefiting from others. In some instances, it might even be a bit of both. For example, barnacles can encrust over the turtle’s nostrils or eyes, yet they can also potentially provide camouflage. Indeed, a sea turtle resting on the sea floor with a shell covered in barnacles could very easily be mistaken for a rock.
