Wow!! Azores. I've heard how aweome the fishing is there for years and years. It's amazing to have that much good sized marlin biting!!! Just epic!! The ultimate predators of the ocean pelagics are big marlin! I've swam in huge marine biomass areas around some fads with mask and snorkel to take underwater videos and there was everything from small nehu bait fish frothing on the surface and you could just scoop them up w/ 5 gallon buckets right over the gunnel!! Below them was massive schoolsof aku/skipjack tuna just 1000's massive metric tonage!! Then huge gorilla ahi 200+ lb everywhere!! I was swimming underwater just watching huge ahi eating the aku and crashing the surface eating nehu!! Everything!!!! Ono and Mahi Mahi and then lots of big huge donkeys it was amazing!!!!! They'd come ripping into the aku schools all lit up glowing electric blue and just whip it's bill around stunning the aku then do a u turn come back and start swallowing the aku!!!! It got really spooky because I had huge 500-800+ lb. Blue Marlin swim right at me at hi-speed and circle me really lit up to the max!! I was scared I might get speared by one!! It was the most epic biomass and so much fish in the water it was just insane!!!!I even saw really big blue marlin stunning and even spearing100 lb. ahi's!!!! Surprisingly there weren't that many sharks, though there were some. I honestly think they were scared of so many giant marlin!!! They are the ultimate super predators of the sea!!!! Guys were catching aku and riding them up to send them down to catch the big ahis but the big marlin were grabbing them and I must have seen 4- 5 boats in a row hook huge 600-800+ lb. Marlin and just chase them as they tire up the surface and the boats disappeared fighting huge donkeys for hours! Heaviest fad action I ever saw!!! I started running my green stick because I was targeting big ahi and ND I caught 10 or 11 big ahi on the stick!!! At sunset I put my parachute sea anchor out to ika shibi fish, and on the sounder I was marking deep @ 60-80 fathoms what I suspected were big eye tuna!!! Sure enough I was dropping my "Maki dog" rig down to them and just started pulling 100 lb. Big eye up!! Caught about 6000 lbs of big yellowfin and big eye tuna! One of the most incredible biomass area's I've ever seen and ot was a feedi.g frenzy. I commercial fish for my living on my custom Force 30 so I target ahi, and didn't want to mess with any big marlin. But big blue marlin are the top level predators! Swimming in that huge biomass with everything in the area around the fad was amazing but I waved at my boat frantically to come get me because I had lit up and feeding big marlin being really threatening to me and I was in fear for my life! Thanks so much for sharing your Azores fishing. It was epic!! Aloha D.L.⁶

Anthony you are the Modern day Hemingway!! I have a sport fish and a small tender my son an I love what you are doing. True Gentleman Anglers and proving there are still real men left on this earth. How many hrs did the engine that blew have? Anything preventable on the breakdown or just happenstance?

Love your videos and approach. Come fish West Africa .... Ivory Coast, Ghana Nigeria ....tell us where the Blue Marlin have gone. 20 years ago it was a prized area. Today, they are rare. Good luck in 2024.
