Beautiful video. Reminded me of fishing the Water of Leith in the Currie/Balerno area during my youth (80’s). Greetings from Canada.

Thanks. I used to fish the Water of Leith now and then when I was a kid in the 60s - I had relatives near Balerno. I never caught much, but the memories are good. 😊

22.30. Very true what you say regards getting out. We must always remember how it is in winter, when we wish our lives away to be out on a summer river, yet when it's here, we often make excuses not to be out!
@wildfisher2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely spot on. That said I won't be going out fishing today, it's blowing such a gale casting would be impossible. But when we are feeling lazy it pays to remember the long dark months when we have no choice! 👍
@carlhughes95842 жыл бұрын
@@wildfisher It's very windy here in Wales, but I will find a tree lined stretch to just have a few casts. It will be the longest day very soon. 😩

hi Fred and nice to see you on the water on such a lovely morning, my river has decent water now but a miserley population of trout and only a few 5in size rising for whitefly the size of a pinhead, good to see you catching, mike

My local always seem to produce smaller fish once the water drops to these levels. The big fellas will be there but hiding in ay deeper water. They very likely come out at dusk. 😊

Brilliant commentary as always. You are getting a dab hand with the drone, get some floats for its legs and you’ll be fine if it lands in the water…. Keep up the good work 🎣

Thanks for the comment Steve. It's just a matter of time before it hits the water I think. 😁

A good day considering the level of water , my local is exactly the same hopefully the rain will come soon.👍

Yeah, some rain would be very welcome. I dread to think what it will be like when the farmers start irrigating.

minnows are food for big trout and patterns for fly tiers to tie.

A great video. Did I see some birds flittering by your drone in the beginning, and could they have been your friends the sandmartins?
@wildfisher2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, those were my pet sand martins checking out the strange looking buzzard. They fly with a bit more confidence than I do. 😄

My local is so low right now that I managed to walk across the deepest pool without getting past my knees. I have no idea where the fish go when it's like that, but I intend to find out.
@wildfisher2 жыл бұрын
Up here they either hide under the banks or head downstream where the river has more and deeper pools. A good spate gets them to spread out again. We really need rain soon or our river won't be fishable for much longer.

Carp is from Asia, but that doesn't mean that members of the greater carp family are not native to Britain! Fish like dace, rudd, barbel, chub etc are all in the carp family.
@wildfisher2 жыл бұрын
Yes we certain have a huge diversity of fish in the UK for sure. Thanks for watching the video! 😊

@@wildfisher Although I have just read that minnows were supposedly introduced into Scotland, so I've learnt something new.
@wildfisher2 жыл бұрын
@@carlhughes9584Yeah, an acquaintance of mine who was a fisheries biologist told me minnows and pike were non natives north of the border, but on reflection he may have meant the highlands. Apparently carp were introduced to the UK by the Romans but are not common up here although there are more of them that there used to be.
