For anyone who watched this video these are not wild bettas. They are domesticated bettas made to be attractive for the aquarium trade and were released into this pond for some reason( it can lead to to true wild bettas genes becoming umpure) and it falsely shows people what wild bettas look like. not one fish in this video is an actual wild fish.

I heard some people purposely release Betta into the pond for them to breed with wild Betta, then they come harvest to see if any new strain from the hybrid. I living in Malaysia and we had wild Betta, they are different and need to be protected

Fancy bettas like that are not found in the wild. These are captive bred. They are throwing them in, and then catching them back. If I wanted to make this video, I would have my friend throw in store-bought bettas just off camera so I can catch them right back on camera, making it look like I am actually catching wild fish. Or stock a small pond with fancy bettas, but that might get expensive. A good piece of fiction though.

This is pretty common in South East Asian countries. Bettas are literally everywhere and vendors sell them to locals/tourists so they can release them in streams and ponds as a traditional offering for good luck. I experienced this in Thailand

@kenjiro26763 жыл бұрын
Lot's of these fish require years of inbreeding to get such mutations. They likely released a bunch of cull betta fish(those deemed not worth for further inbreeding) into this pond and let them grow out for this video. The result of this kind of inbreeding makes them very prone to tumors and other hereditary diseases.

Technically not “wild” species however if they are raised in a fairly well controlled natural environment it could still be considered “wild caught “ lol. Pretty much the whole point of conservative efforts .
@betta_3602 жыл бұрын
Not even close, conservation is for pure bred wild specimens, these domestic hybrids do not need conservation.. there is nothing to conserve because the bloodlines have been all mixed up.. even in a lot of areas domestic bettas are being released and breed with wilds and they make the gene pool no longer pure.. conservation is for these pure wild breed types, like Betta Imbellis, Mahachai, Smaragdina, Splendens, Stiktos, and Siamorientalis.. those are the wild types in the complex worth conserving.
