Brilliant vids, glad you realise the coffee does put some of us fussy people off, I will go and watch them all now. thanks for posting.

Very well explained! The visualization with the lines really helped, and the emphasis on "summer/winter/9am/10pm" haha. And now I can't see the night sky without imaging the lines across the spherical night sky!

You made my day! I got crystals clear idea 💡 how to pinpoint a heavenly object by this. RA and dec are challenging concepts for the beginners of astrophotography and nicely explained. I have subscribed to the channel. Keep the quality work coming. Thanks a ton !!

This is by far the best explanation and illustration of these principles on KZbin. Crystal clear to me now even though I've been polar aligning and using goto tech for a while I finally get the way eq works.

I've spent the night watching these and making notes in a pad. Something I've not done in 12 years. Thank you so much for making these. I'm about to make my first serious telescope purchase and this is giving me so much clarity on what I'm really stepping into. THANK YOU!

@@catchingphotons Almost. I think I need to decide on what my targets will be. I'm not fussed on photography just yet. My main thought has always been observing objects within the solar system. My bracket for product research is a Newtonian reflector. Your video on 'chromatic aberration' made me careful of refractors in my £200-£300 budget range (?) Your video on the sky grid makes me realise I don't want a computerised mount and miss out on learning more about applying RA/DEC. If I wanted to view clear images within the solar system, but perhaps look at deep space objects I was thinking a Reflector with an f/ratio between 5 and 9, am i in the right area? any advice would be amazing!
@CessnaPilot994 жыл бұрын
@@danthornton1673 I would get f ratio at 5 so you can see wider field deep sky objects and then just use a 3X Barlow to make it f15 for looking at planets. Maksutov cassegrain telescopes like the etx 90 and etx 125 are very well suited for planetary, I have them both. used telescope gear is very hard to find right now because of the pandemic

Clear and vivid explanation. Simplicity of words spoken. Quite understandable. I like you dude for the way you present stuff. All good except for the voice. Please make sure that your voice, while recording, is clear enough. Love from Pakistan.👌

COFFEE?! I LUV coffee!, absolutely NOTHING wrong w/ coffee! Seriously I'm fine w/ the old & see no reason to change. But what I would REALLY like to see is a video about estimating RA. I don't want to have to have or use a book, go-to, computer, phone, etc. I just want to know how to estimate the approximate location from EQ. Thank you, Chris! Another excellent video so I subscribed. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
@catchingphotons2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jon! Thanks for your encouraging words! I need some clarification regarding your question: what do you mean with estimating RA? Are you referring to the"location RA/DEC rings on the common EQ mount? Thanks and clear skies!!
@undercandlelight64352 жыл бұрын
Hello Chris. I love your videos and I have a question. When we are outside and there is nothing but the ra/dec information about the star, how can we know where it exactly is? In alt/az we know that the North is zero and we have this reference but in ra/dec I did not understand what is our reference. I hope I made myself clear. Thank you for your videos. Greetings from Turkey.

One problem I don't understand is I've seen RA described hours to the left and another to the right. Which is it? In the last example herein, it measured to the left (CW rotation viewed from above) 5hrs 16'. In a different video, it would be to the right (CCW rotation viewed from above) 18hrs 44'. Can someone shed some light on this for me?
@CessnaPilot994 жыл бұрын
Good video. It could have used a little more emphasis at the end about RA and DEC. FYI the coffee sipping was kinda gross when you can't see the person.

Somehow now it is. Mind though that there are "coffee-free" re-uploads available within the "Theory"-playlist, mainly because the "coffee-topic" was much more controversial than I anticipated ;-) I want the audience to focus on the content - so if you mind the coffee, feel free to switch versions any time!
