In this video I install electric exhaust cutouts on the Ram TRX, and wire them up to one of the factory Auxiliary switches. This way it's a clean install and doesn't require adding an aftermarket switch to actuate the cutouts.
Huge shoutout to @ogdobber on the Raptor forums and here on KZbin for the excellent instructions- I basically followed them step by step and was able to get my system working great!

I just did my 2021 ram classic but I only use one exhaust valve cutout on the main pipe behind the catalytic and i add a afe cold air intake and it sound like a beast.

I am working on an update video - I found a way to further simplify and reduce costs associated with the control circuit. Thanks again for the write-up and motivation to tackle this project!!

Would you mind putting link for the relays and timers that you used? Also, how do you know which wire under the hood is for which Aux switch?

So I also watched your video where you went over the upfitter switches. Should you be able to use one relay to reverse polarity and then hook it up to the switch and set it to momentary and then just hold the switch for 5 seconds to open and then press again and hold to close? Also any chance you could share the link for relays you used?

Good warranty on cutouts. But will it affect warranty on truck ? Still that's badass when they open!

You had mentioned in another one of your videos that the switches could be set to “momentary” or something like that. Could that not be used in place for these cutouts to drive it open and close. For example one switch to open, you’d hold and release that momentary switch until you open it where you want and then a second switch to hold and release basically mimicking the rocker style that came with? Hope that made sense lol!
@CatchMeOffroad
@CatchMeOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, but unfortunately the way the switches work is they are only able to provide +12V power. The cutouts require +12V to open, and -12V (reversed polarity) to close. There is no way to make a single upfitter switch do that without some sort of relay setup like I used originally. Hope this makes sense...

No they aren't and I was advised against doing this for offroad use, but I always have to learn the hard way 🤪

How are these holding up? Debating on doing the same setup. But I've always heard concerns over time the butterfly valves don't close fully and causes them to leak
@CatchMeOffroad
@CatchMeOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
I do not recommend! After a few months they started giving me trouble...just like you said. The valves stopped working properly, and sometimes they would stick fully open and not move at all for a week, which was super annoying. I ended up removing them and just doing a muffler replacement with Race Bullets. Much happier now!

@@CatchMeOffroad oh wow I was just watching your video on the simplified cutout controller...was about to pull the trigger! Have you contacted them about warranty? That 5 year warranty is why I would choose them, but not if they fail that quickly!
@CatchMeOffroad
@CatchMeOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
@@03greycobra I was planning to contact them about the warranty, however some of the issues were caused by improper installation...both exhaust plumbing and my wiring. The first time I took it offroad, the driveshaft came in contact with one of the valves and rubbed a round notch in the housing, causing it to bind. After fixing that, I had issues multiple times with melting wires due to close proximity to the exhaust pipes...this one may be my fault. But either way, I now have a damaged cutout valve and 2 shorted or possibly fried valves. Plus that controller would only work half the time, not sure if it was the problem or the cutouts...I just gave up on the full system. If you're in the MI area I'd be happy to show you all the parts 👍🏼

@@CatchMeOffroad your mic records audio very well. I would love to hear your replacement. I didn’t see a video. I like the cut outs idea as it sounds good both ways and gives you the flexibility of not waking up the neighbors at 4am though the cold start is rather loud anyway, but having that deep tone on demand is nice. Stock is defining in tunnels already with all the windows down. I imagine anything louder would make your ears ring

@@FindingMyOwnPath thank you! It's just my phone camera, nothing special. Here is the video showing the current setup I have on the truck: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHvOc6OFmqhseNU I'm very happy with this setup even though I do wish the cutouts had worked out better... Should be receiving an AWE full system soon so stay tuned for that! Thanks for watching!

Just an fyi the ram has built in relays for the uplifter switched the wires are listed be the relays amps. So the extra relays you wired was a waste of relays that’s the nice thing about them. Ground and power and go. No additional relays needed. Just a heads up for the future
@CatchMeOffroad
@CatchMeOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
That's not the case actually, the upfitter switches only provide switched power, but the cutouts require dual (normal and reverse) polarity to open and close the valves. You can't do that on one switch unless you use relays...hope that makes sense
@hellhawk4680
@hellhawk4680 2 жыл бұрын
@@CatchMeOffroad that does make sense for having to reverse the polarity. However the “switched power” on the ram is run through relays so if you don’t need reverse polarity aka lights or other items there is zero need for relays
@CatchMeOffroad
@CatchMeOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
@@hellhawk4680 Yes you are absolutely correct. The switched switch circuits on the TRX are fused and 4 of the 6 switches are rated at 50A which is super high, and you can skip the relays (and wiring direct to battery) for the majority of accessories 👍🏼
