Day one of our Cateran Trail adventure commenced in the charming town of Blairgowrie, where the River Ericht's tranquil waters gently whispered tales of the journey ahead. Our journey began with enthusiasm as we headed northward, our path leading us across a captivating expanse of farmland and open moorland. The rugged beauty of this terrain was a testament to Scotland's unspoiled natural splendour.
As we ventured further into the day, we encountered the remnants of a battle against nature. The destruction wrought by Storm Arwyn, which had ravaged the local woodland a few years prior, presented us with diversions and challenges. It was a poignant reminder of the power of nature and the resilience of those who call these lands home.
The second half of the day was marked by a capricious sky that unleashed rain, temporarily halting our filming efforts. With the sun's departure approaching at 6:15 pm, we raced against time to secure a suitable wild camping spot. Along this section of the trail, hikers have marvelled at the diverse wildlife that graces this terrain, from red squirrels, distant bellows of rutting red deer to the vibrant birdlife that fills the skies.
Day one of the Cateran Trail was an exploration of Scotland's untamed landscapes, a testament to the ever-shifting balance between human endeavour and the forces of nature.
