My Exocet (Race welded steel floors) weighed 1563 and was similar to the full cage Caterham you tested so a couple hundred pounds heavier for a Miata based kit car. I did keep the ABS so there were ways to go lighter.

This reminds me of the racing karts I've raced. Control being equal, the higher power to weight ratio will always win, regardless of the cost of the vehicle.
@joshuajusticeracing3 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. Once you get into heavier stuff, your braking distances start increasing, so even if your power to weight is the same, your braking to weight isn't.
@user-gc1zn5mn4p3 ай бұрын
@@joshuajusticeracingThat's true, though I was in a general sense including braking within control, both in turns & on straights.

Think this video missed the origin of Caterham 7, as its roots are strongly based in a kit car. One of the original kit cars.
@janetyer71473 ай бұрын
Seems like a Caterham 7 might be a good candidate for a GM LFX V6 salvaged from a Gen5 Camaro and a Tremec TR-3160 manual 6-speed salvaged from a Gen6. Maybe change to a dry sump oiling system with tank located somewhere aft of the drive axle. A small diameter low inertia dual disc clutch and steel safety bell housing might be worthwhile, if available.

That sounds like a modern version of the Brunton Stalker (V6 Camaro/S10 drivetrain in a Seven chassis)

still remember when you guys built the CMC 7 years ago.

This excites me greatly, as I'm currently waiting for an MK Indy RX-5 (miata drivetrain Seven kit) to show up from their US distributor, and it will primarily be a track toy for me.

How much is it without shipping. Considering and exocet

@@silverpairaducks my kit, with some options, including having it crated up, is right at $20K before shipping or donor parts

I wish there was a lotus/caterham 7 kit for the miata nc.

There are MX5 kits based on the NA/NB. I don't know if westfield is still building them but MK Indy makes them, with the honda K20 motor as an option. kzbin.info/door/CfTIOxA05jmHi0FAixB2Pg

You could prolly jury rig an exocet to fit an NC
@shadfallfan3 ай бұрын
@@stevesamuel263 No. You have to use suspension from the NA/NB and the NC doesn't share any parts at all. At that point you'd be better off just starting from scratch. But that takes so much time. A single donor kit where all the welding is done and all you gotta do is swap parts over would be a hit especially for those who do track days and want a cheap fun weekend toy. Is the same spirit as the 818 but with a better base platform.
@BumpHeadRacing3 ай бұрын
There's something close, MK Sportscars is starting to build a Seven kit using a MZR/Duratec engine and an NC gearbox, I forget which rear end they're using in it though, and depending on rear end it either uses NA/NB uprights (if a NA/NB diff) or custom uprights (if a Ford Sierra/Merkur diff)

DeDion rear suspension. Basically a live axle but it only connects the two wheels. the diff is chassis mounted.

@@3ducs Yeah it's not a bad solution for light cars that don't roll a lot. Biggest drawback is kind of a weird dynamic camber curve, but on a small light car that's not as big of a drawback.

I would think an Atom would be better. Mid engine same concept.
@joelambert71283 ай бұрын
Perhaps the Atom is a superior car in isolation, but the Caterham and other Lotus 7 clones are cheaper by half, and come with a massive spec racing scene, particularly in the UK.
