Hi I need your opinion ; I'm from a third world country and i'm planning to enroll on a course from CAT since i'm interested in this subject. It costs a good amount of money. Is it worth it? What should i follow hydraulics or engine repair or both? Are there plenty of job opportunities for mechanics? If you have suggestions please let me know. Thanks

@@yowunpansilu engine repair is always crucial. Hydraulic repairs is always needed as well. For Instance if you were working on mining, towing,or some type of off road equipment...it would be wise to be well studied in both .

@@yowunpansilu I don't know where you live, but in places like USA and Canada they will hire you on the spot if you can prove training from CAT and knowledge in engines, heavy duty semi-trucks or heavy duty hydraulics. In Canada (where I'm from), if you successfully complete the apprenticeship for 421A or 310T, you're looking at jobs that easily pays over $150,000 CAD a year (that's without much overtime, if you hustle and put in more than 40 hours a week your pay is much higher than that). I would consider relocating to US or Canada if you can, the pay difference is way too great to ignore. There's a huge shortage of highly skilled technicians, and they just about hire any dimwit that can hold a wrench.

I ain't but 8 minutes in and this engine is clean compared to what I'm used to. I know you said you need it for parts but dang there are alot, if not all the parts coming off of it need to go in a box for future use. It bothers me a little bit just letting bolts drop but I'm sure you recovered them instead of sweeping em all up and chucking them in the trash. Bolts are sometimes hard to come by when it's crunch time and going back together with a project. As a mechanic 53 years old who is down and out on disability with my health failing more and more daily, just watching you tear this down is a form of therapy to me. You don't post often but when you do it's always a watch all the way thru kind of day.

Great video. I had that sensor go out on my 1994- Cat 3406E model back in 2010 just a few months after I had a complete out of frame overhaul done. was loading grain under the spout had one pile in trailer & was to move to rear hopper & she just quit. Had no idea what it was. couldn't get it to start. Ended up having towed to a shop thinking was a serious problem & all it was this timing sensor. If I'd had known that I would have had a new one put on when I overhauled the motor. I was good for putting things on before it needed it as a prevention of a breakdown & loss of time. Time is Money.

This series of engines along with the 3176 was designed to complement the 3406. It was designed for lightweight requirements of certain OTR industry requirements. It found a large niche in the bulk transport fleet and beer hauling fleets. I drove a 98 KW with the C13 that had 430 hp and it did fairly well in the mountains. The 3176 was not as good when it came to Jake brake performance but then again it was also 1350 maximum torque so it couldn't really get up the hills.

@Harold…If it was a 1998’ Model Truck, it had to be a C-12, 430 HP was the Most that you could get along with Up To 1,650 Ft LBS Torque. Cat C13 Model Motors didn’t come out until 2005 Model Trucks, they were also Twin Turbo Engines and had Some Problems. There was also the Cat C-12 Bridge Motor that was 2003-2004 Model Trucks (similar to the Cat C-15 Bridge Motor that was after the 6NZ Model, but before the Cat C15 Models). The “Bridge Motors” which were Single Turbo Interim Motors with Some Emission Controls, before going to Full Blown Emission Motors that Started in 2005, such as the Twin Turbo Model Motors C7, C9, C11, C13, C15, & C18 Model Motors. These Motors were Replacements for The Single Turbo Model Motors 3126, 3176, C-10, C-12, C-15, C-16, & 3406E Model Motors. If the C-10 is as Good as the C-12, C-15, & 3406 Model Motors that I have had Experience with, then I am sure that it is a Good Motors. The Cat C-10 falls into the Same Class of Motor as the Cummins M11/ISM Model & Detroit S60 11.1 L, just like the Cat C-12 falls into the same Class of Motor as the Detroit S60 12.7L Model, just like the C-15/3406 falls into the same Class of Motor as the Cummins ISX/N14 and Detroits S60 14L Motor. Cat C-10/3176 we’re Great Flat Land Motors for Bulk Hauling, Car Hauling and Local Drop & Hook, but it would have to be Really Geared Low for The Mountains & 80,000LBS. I wouldn’t want Less than a Cat C-12/S60 12.7L for the Hills, even then the Truck would still have to be Geared Low with Maximum HP & Torque, 13 Spd’s & Jake’s (ideally a 14.0L, 14.6, 15.2, 15.8, or even a 18.0L Motor).
