Beautiful loving dogs, when each has his 12th birthday, you will need to get yourself together mentally because your time together is getting short and the personal loss and hurt are on the way. I know, inasmuch as I deeply loved and cherished all of my loyal pets over the years and you seem to be no different than me in your love of your pets. Keep up the faith with the RD-4 project, it is really coming along at a good pace and the basic parts seem to be in better condition than I and probably you as well had expected.

I'm not looking forward to that, we lost Coby (5 year old german shepherd) last fall to cancer and it hit me hard. Thanks for following along with the project!

@@bcbloc02 I lost my last 2 lovable and loving pets each died at the age of 13, but 2 years apart. Their ashes are kept here in their individual urn with/near me in my playroom. At the tender age of 78, I will not have any more sidekicks, but I sincerely wish that I could. Thank you for reading my post. BTW: If you don't already, I would suggest that you should start giving Baily an aspirin with each meal, it really does help with their pain.

Well after seeing your tear down and Squatch's tri-build I am now quite familiar with these engines although I have never seen one in the flesh. Back in the 80's I bought a Lister CS (cold start) diesel at an auction for £2, Its a 5 hp single cylinder stationary engine usually coupled to a generator. It was badly frost damaged and seized solid. I fought for ages to get it apart but I just ended up cleaning the bearing surfaces with emery paper, repairing the cracks in the water jacket with JB Weld that I textured to match the cast iron. When painted you could not see the cracks. I splashed out on a new pump and injector and it ran like a Swiss watch for the 20 years I had it. It is surprising how engines can be brought back from the dead, they are actually very tolerant machines

For a bone dry engine most parts look still useable. The rods do look bad like they have been in salt water. So cutting them was not a huge loss. The crank is whats worth big money. I think Squatch mentioned you can put the timing gear on backwards when reassembling the pony engine?
@kylechrist2 жыл бұрын
You can yes, there are timing marks for reassembling though 👍

Kyle, I'm wondering why you don't tap on the end of the puller bolt after putting pressure on with the thread. I've always thought that was the trick to breaking the part loose?
@kylechrist2 жыл бұрын
I was never able to get enough pressure on it, with the grade 5 bolts it just distorted the washers, with the grade 8 it started popping and moving before the puller was tight

I’m guessing you sprayed penetrating fluid on, and then went right to it trying to remove that flywheel nut? Sorry, penetrating fluid is NOT an instantaneous results product. Never has been!! Penetrating fluid has to be given time….Hours, sometimes days to be effective on loosening rusted parts. It DOES work as intended if it’s given time to work. I understand the time required for those results isn’t always there, and you need to get things apart…..Hence the necessity for heat! I’m not trying to be argumentative, because I know your position on using penetrating fluids, but to say they do not work is false. They will work if they’re given time. I do enjoy your videos by the way…. I really like the old Caterpillar content.
@kylechrist2 жыл бұрын
In this particular instance I was using the penetrant as more of a lubricant as the nut was already moving, unfortunately without the heat it was still too tight. I agree that penetrants work if given time, but as you said, most people can't wait hours to days to take things apart. If you do read most cans, they say wait several minutes, so obviously the marketing teams think they have magical products haha
