I so much admire what you’re costs are to go fishing and you endure so much for one fish. Most guys would want assurances that they will load the boat but you appreciate catfish and your devoted. I love it. I think it’s awesome and your a true sportsman.

Welcome to SC. I didn't do an exhaustive search of the regs by any means, but what I saw, while definitely vague, seems to refer to live bait and not cut bait. However, if trying to match the hatch, American Shad would proudly be the bait of choice right now. Along with Blueback Herring, they are running in the Rediversion Canal right now and are a blast to catch.

I lived on Santee Cooper for five years before moving back to Indiana. The only place maga cats were being caught was in the canal between Cooper and lake Moultrie. The Out of state fishermen would load all the coolers up with as many catfish as they could pack out. It has hurt Cooper from all the fish taken. Sad.... You are correct about being on that lake when a storm rolls in. A many fishermen have darn near lost their boats from the waves. Cooper is like a dangerous soup bowl in a storm....lol.
@SCDeerAddict2 жыл бұрын
Our great DNR has placed limits on blue cats now..you can only keep 25 per day and 2 over 32 inches per day. That should save the fisheries../sarcasm..terrible DNR in this state

I live in Lexington SC. The first time I went to Santee, I couldn't believe the number of people! Between hotels, fish camps, and campgrounds, there's got to be at least 100 places to stay and everything was booked! We finally talked a hotel into renting us a room that had no beds or any other furniture in it. We made pallets and slept on the floor! Thank goodness the AC worked! 4th of July weekend, 104° between 3 of us, we caught 2 blues about 15lbs each. Saw a bunch of gators too! Last time I went, we chartered a boat with a well known fishing guide and we caught 1 damn fish!

Just got back from staying at Black’s Camp for three nights. There was four of us in two boats. We fished nothing but the canal. Caught a total of 26 fish using dead herring and night crawlers. Biggest one was a 36.5 inch and 19.3 pound blue cat. Caught several over 10#. Already looking forward to going back.

Hey Dave. If you want to come back anytime during the summer. I will be more than glad to show you some fantastic spots for catfishing. I normally fish at night. I fish a big flat on the lower lake. I know that the location of Francis Marions ( the swamp Fox of the revolution,) plantation, lies at the bottom of Santee Cooper, but is his burial place there too? Or was his grave moved before, the lake was filled?
