That is not what clinically recognised DID looks like. That's what people who get their education from TikTok THINKS DID looks like. DID doesn't involve concious "role play" or a character. In DID you cannot switch "roles" at will. There is no awareness of the other personality. DID involves blackouts. DID is incredibly, incredibly rare. Obviously I can't say for sure, I don't know Denise/David or their history. And I'm not an expert, however, if I was to suggest a possibility, I'd say Denise struggles to accept her sexuality. She created David to enable her to pursue her real feelings relaying to other women, which she feels she can't do as herself. David could be her sexuality shield. I'd be interested to know how much religion factored into her life over the years.

That was absolutely weird with the David character. I mean who doesn't video chat with the person you claim to be your lover. When I met my husband online I asked for a video chat to be sure it was him. So please guys be careful and don't wait decades to finally see the persons face. Dont understand how someone can talk to someone this long without meeting them. Should be meeting up within a couple months if your wanting a serious relationship. Should realize something is up if they don't want to meet up with you or video chat.

Just when I start to think of typing something like "This person's ridiculous/stupid/insane for talking for someone so long they've never met and not work out they're being cat-fished" I remind myself of attachment theory, and allllll the reasons people who have been abused in previous relationships still need attachment like anyone else but are afraid to have face-to-face contact. A relationship from a distance is safe, and that's how they protect themselves from being hurt again. That's understandable.

I was thinking this as well. There is A LOT going on here. A lot that needs to be properly assessed. When she mentioned he would disappear for months on end then pop back up, I was like "Ooooop. Stop. Nope. You need to back off a bit." I had a friend who is bipolar who would do this. He would be the best and perfect version of himself FOR YOU then pick a fight and disappear for MONTHS and then just pop back up. This went on and on. It's HARD. Then the whole David/Denise thing. Mentally, I do not think this person is okay and seriously should seek some help.
