Same my man, last year I was on the fire line out west fighting Wildfire's watching ol catfish dave made me relax so much and be able to spend my evenings catching some cats even though I was spiked out in a mountain with barely a bar of service downloading at intervals every video released just to relax laying in my bag on the forest floor. I met an old man who fed a bunch of feral cats around his trailer on the Muskingum River by McConnellsville. He would catch small carp and throw them up on the bank all day, then at night he tied ropes to trees and threw out the stinky fish and he caught a bunch of 40 and 50 pound catfish. He also told me one time when he was a young man ,he was in a 10 foot boat and something swum right past him that was longer than the boat. Only thing I can think of is a paddle fish or sturgeon, or alligator gar. I would guess gar . There are plenty of them in that river Or, maybe fish tales, but I don't think so.

Ive never fished on a boat, but why do you reel down before setting hook?

You do that regardless of being on a boat. It’s to tighten the drag/line before setting the hook to not pull the hook out of the fishes mouth.
