Erin another way to hold loose bait on your hook is use mesh from the store. Go to like say fabric section at Walmart, Freddys etc and ask for the tightest mesh they have.. you have seen it!! i know you have.. some is used for for veils even. the holes on mine or like1/8 inch.... buy a yard and then cut them into either 4 inch squares or 6 inch. put hook on mesh and then sand shrimp or liver Pull up 4 corners and tie unto hook with bread tie wire and then use fine string like dental floss to wrap bait up into a ball around hook. make sure hook is exposed for catching fish... set in egg carton holes...... eggs sit in. i make a couple dozen at a time and when frozen i put in quart baggies and leave in freezer until needed. When you go fishing take some with and just put hook on string,.... or hook to swivel. and your good to go. An old man taught me this... so all loose baits,.. the slimy loose parts,...clams, oysters, liver, sand shrimp/ ghost shrimp, all hold well together when wrapped in mesh. and it gives you more to fish with especially on clams oysters.. instead of just their foot. You make little bait balls is what you make. Caught some pretty damn big catfish using these. i caught other fish but catfish love them. and as they thaw they let out scent but doesn't come off hook.

Thanks for the tip. I can give it a try next year when I go. I use window screen for crab snares to keep the bait from falling through the half inch mesh. It works well but, the window mesh has a limited shelf life do to the crab pinching on it. If you watch the video next year you will hopefully see me trying the mesh baggies out. On this trip I was very sick and, couldn't fish and film as much as I would like. It took about a month to get over that bad cold.

It was fun but, sitting in the sun waiting for the bite was at times too hot.
