I grew up on cat head biscuits, but mama would mix her bater and drop them on the pan and bake them, they came out with bumps and points sticking up and we thought they looked like a "cat head" and they were huge, but man they were so good along with some good ole sausage gravy! This meal is awesome, I love hog jowl fried like that, it don't get no better!!

Looks yummy :) I am in the grating butter camp when I make biscuits. I use an old Mouli shredder from the 50's, old fingers and hands can't deal with grating it on a box shredder. BTW, planted our first crops for 2024 over in eastern NC this week - sweet peas and Windsor beans.

No such thing as a dumb question! The texture of canned potatoes are a little different than fresh one, I personally don't like the texture of the mashed potatoes if made with canned potatoes I've tried it a time or 2. We usually just eat them whole or I add them to soups. I save my fresh potatoes to make mashed potatoes. I am so glad to hear your husband is on the mend! Best of luck in the woods, get it girl!

Absolutely my kind of supper! Or breakfast! Unfortunately, I have to make stuff like this in small amounts since my kids are grown and gone with families of their own. My wife will not touch game of any kind, fresh fish, or even fresh chicken, beef, or pork. I grew up on all of it and still love it. Talk about opposites attracting!lol Of course, I did make a stew that she thought was beef once years ago. Probably because I unwrapped beef stew meat and repackaged it. She ate three bowls!😂 But I love her anyway!

We grow all of our vegetables that we eat, I honestly can't tell you the last time we bought any vegetables or meat for that matter from the store. We grow green beans, corn (sweet and field), tomatoes, different varieties of beans and cow peas, cucumbers, collards, turnip, mustard, kale, carrots, broccoli, and I am sure I am forgetting something. If you don't already, preserve your butter. Always have it on hand. Our 1839 Almanac says "melt over the fire and scum well. Pour in to jar (stone) and cover loosely." If that doesn't make sense, learn to make ghee. Lasts forever.
