The condition of the Cathedral through 1970-80s was never dilapidated. It did go through various renovations. The images shown in this video of the exposed brickwork, the cracked walls etc were in fact the result of the foundations sinking or worsening later on, possibly contributed by major groundwork around it. Then structural studies were made during which the plaster etc were stripped away and those images were obtained. The latest effort to save and improve on the building was a stupendously successful one, indeed, and as a result we have the grounds and facilities we see today. I think to a great extent, past rectors could only ask so much of the congregation of the diocese which was stretched always with building fund demands across the island. We are blessed today with management resources and leadership that helps our archdiocese shine, in our liturgical life and infrastructure. 💐
