Religion is SO much more firmly embedded in American culture than here in the UK. The idea that someone like Jerry Dewitt can be ostracized so harshly for the thought-crime of openly admitting his skepticism, is mind boggling! The Clergy Project DOES what organized religion SHOULD be doing - helping people, without the strings attached. And the crazy thing is that religion will help people if they pretend to believe, whether they actually do or not.

As a life long atheist I can only imagine what it's like for those caught in the religious trap to the point where they've paved a career in it's propagation... then suddenly (or gradually) have a 180 degree change of heart. Openly freeing oneself from religion must be one of the most difficult challenges for people who've staked their lives on it... reputation, social status, family, community standing and livelihood. For them the Clergy Project must be a "godsend" (pun intended). Those who conceived and founded the Clergy Project deserve a standing ovation.
