It's very moving to see the graceful Catherine Karnow recount her falling in love with the country. Her graceful experiences contrast sharply with the war criminals Nixon and Kissinger dropping millions of tons of bombs on a country that did no harm to America. I can hardly hold back tears to hear her express concerns for the victims of the Agent Orange toxin and their families. There are indeed many other good-hearted Americans like her who understand that their country committed a horrific crime against an innocent people. Vietnam has a long history of resisting oppression by foreign powers. Despite the overwhelming odds, they expelled the foreign invaders, first the Chinese, then the French and the Americans. The independence-minded Vietnamese showed that material might is no match for a determined spirit. Today's Vietnam resulted from the hard work of many revolutionaries among whom are the luminaries like Phan Chu Trinh, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Ho Chi Minh, and of course the legendary general Vo Nguyen Giap. I hope the Vietnamese young do not forget the history of their nation.

What a beautiful & poignant story of Ms Karnow, her work & her special kindred to VN. She is a woman of great substance, intellect, talent & empathy. Her beauty emanates deep from within in its rare & singularity. It’s touching to see how she chose to photograph AO victims respectfully with dignity & beauty beyond their physicality. Thank you Ms Karnow for your compassion & magnanimity to help these people without reasons & causes. Yes, we should always choose to give, to inspire & to cultivate hope, humility & humanity.

Thanks for your dad, Katherine. HIs book changed my life. Before reading Stanley Karnow, I hated the communists, I really did, even they're my Đồng Bào. I bore that hatred into a discussion of my country over a dinner with a fine lady, Geraldine. Listening all of my laments of the VNmese communist, Geraldine kept silence for the whole length of my monotone story. She then lent me that fateful book Vietnam A HIstory: "I'll talk to you, after reading this". I did. I didn't believe it then I went to a library & read book after book, a dozen'ish of them. I'd been changed. From that day, I'd read extensively histories, economics, politics & philosophy books. My conviction is: The Socialism is The Best for my nation. By the way, I'm a professional engineer. I'm certain not many people grasp the the true meaning of the title VN a History. To many, VN is a War, not a country, not history. You're wrong mates. We are the people, with culture & history, not merely some Free Fire Zones, that the US & other troops could fire at anything that moved.
