"Send For Me" (composed by Ollie Jones)

"Send For Me" is the title track of Catherine Russell's eighth album as a leader, an April 1, 2022 release on Dot Time Records. Here she performs the song "live" in concert.
The song was written by Ollie Jones, an original member of the R&B, doo-wop harmony group, The Ravens. Catherine’s father, Luis Russell, led a 16-piece big band in the late 1940's when he shared bills with The Ravens, Dinah Washington, and Nat King Cole.
In 1957, Nat King Cole recorded "Send for Me." It became a crossover hit reaching #1 on the U.S. R&B charts, and #6 on the U.S. Pop Chart. Catherine observes, “nobody thinks of Nat King Cole as a blues singer, but he sang some really great blues.” R&B was the next iteration of “Race” music, morphing into rock n’ roll. When performing the song on his TV show, Nat Cole himself described the song as “my first contribution to rock ‘n roll repertoire.”
