My Dads mother used to use only 4 pins to hold her pattern. So her pieces never came out exactly the way they were supposed to. It wasn't until my Dad married my mother that she really learned that the more pins you use, the better you could cut your pieces out. I had a good giggle on that story. Love colors you used.

I knew it you gave yourself away when you mentioned sewing classes! I didn’t know you’re Canadian , I’m from Texas where you go big or go home !

I sure need to try this basic, I'm always needing jammies so this will be perfect I also love the idea of using wrapping paper. I have to tell you I have a wonderful room, but it's not really set up for sewing, you've encouraged me to redo my craft room for more of a sewing room, I'll still be able to craft. I have slanted walls to that's my biggest battle in the room. But that's my resolution for 2023, thank you, I'm also gonna get my surgery & sewing machine cleaned up & get parts needed that I've put off. I like seeing I have a lot of tools but needed a boost I guess.

I am so fascinated by your sewing knits. I learned to sew on wovens and then made a double knit blazer. I haven't had training in working with stretch knit applications. Stretching into a quartered neckline, stretching for the cuff, keeping elastic from rolling, the pretty ruffle on the waistband, hemming concerns w/ knit hems on shorts, the curved hem on the tee: were all especially exciting to see. I have 2 used sergers with "quirks". I'm a bit more motivated to try to work through those after this. Thank you. Love your pajamas. I have difficulty finding pretty knits.

@@CatherineSews Hi Catherine, have you shown how to do the V neck yet? Is technique same for knit and woven fabrics?
@CatherineSews2 жыл бұрын
@@lindaduffy8387 No, I haven't! It's been on my To Do list for a long time. I think I'd use a different technique for wovens. Maybe that should be the topic of the video...different ways of doing V-necks for different fabrics.

LOVELY PJ's...I was thinking mentioning using the 4 thread serger to make a stronger seam(unless you mentioned it in your serger video) or if that is just a given when sewing seams together on knits with a serger. I usually only do 3 threads when I do seam finish on wovens. thank you!!!

In my country, we do NOT have sewing on the exterior side of the pants, for pyjamas. To not disturb during sleep. When we cut, we put the pattern 1 back and 1 front aside, but do NOT cut betwen them. So we have just the sewing betwen legs and the round one from front to back. I m not sure I explained correctly.
@CatherineSews2 жыл бұрын
Oh, I get what you're saying! That's a very good idea to keep in mind for pyjamas.

I know this video is old, but I wonder if you can give a recommendation on how much fabric to buy for M size?
@CatherineSews2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for giving this older video some attention! For yardage, I think you can get the pant or short pieces side by side on the folded fabric, so you would probably just need to buy the length that you want the pants to be, plus about 15cm/6" for the casing and hems. For the top, buy the length that you want the top to be, plus the length of the sleeve, plus a bit for seam allowance and that should do the trick.

This is great, I am going to try making my own PJs, but I have a question: how do you know how much fabric to buy when you make your own pattern? You probably know from experience, but how would I figure that out if I have no experience making my own clothes? I wear a 2x in most items.
@CatherineSews2 жыл бұрын
Think in terms of lengths. You would need 2 lengths of the pants, and one length of the sleeves. For the front and back, it depends if you can fit them side by side on the width of the fabric, so you'd need either 1 or 2 lengths of the top. Add that all up and then add a bit for hems and casings etc and that should give you a pretty accurate measurement.
