Thanks! Don't be intimidated by knits. They're a joy to work with and often so much faster than wovens because there's not usually much pressing to do, no darts, no collars etc. But working with knits will make you want to invest in a serger if you don't already have one. If you do, you're good to go!!

Ooh and, quick question! Does the 75% rule apply to wrist bands, PJ ankle bands and bottom of sweater waist band? Xx
@CatherineSews2 жыл бұрын
Good question! The 75% rule is pretty much only for neckbands since we want the band to stretch on the outer edge and lay flat against the body along the inner edge. Cuffs and waistbands have more leeway because they don't need to create that smooth curve. They can be as big or as small as you like!

Hello. Breakfast sandwich and simple top. This is so cool. Maybe the more I watch you the less I will be willing to buy from SHEIN. The fabrics or not nice, the quality seems to be ok but sizing is very off. Most of all I don’t need to be shopping a Chinese manufacture and shipper. I choose quality of quantity. It’s a hard lesson since as a normal American I have grown up wanting to buy cheaper and cheaper. Maybe it’s not all Americans thinking this way but I know I absolutely do. So my new leaf for 2023. Buy less NEW, buy more local, recycle and refashion whenever possible. Thanks for inspiring. 😊

Hello! I'm trying to learn how to sew. I would like to sew a top similar to the one that you did for your mom for my mom. I don't have a serger. When you used the sewing machine, did you use a ballpoint needle? If so, what needle size did you use? I saw another video of you using a twin needle. Can the twin needle be used in this project, too? Thanks
@CatherineSews8 ай бұрын
I don't think I used a ballpoint on this one, although you could. I find that a Universal needle is fine on this kind of knit. I've only ever had trouble with needles and knits when it's a hard cotton knit. Softer synthetic knits don't get puncture holes in the same way. And yes, you could definitely use a twin needle on the hems of this project.

How can I figure out my neckband ? I know you said the neckband was 20 and you only want 75% . How do I figure that out in an easier way. And you said divide it by two. I wasn’t good in math. Can you please help me to do this?
@CatherineSews Жыл бұрын
No problem, Lucille. If you fold the neckline from the centre of the front to the centre of the back and measure that, you'll have the measurement of half, or 50% of the neckline. So let's say you get 12 inches. Divide that number in half (6) and add it to the first number (12+6=18). The total is 75% of your neckline so that's how long you cut your neckband. I hope that helps!

Do you need to use a special needle to sew this?
@CatherineSews3 жыл бұрын
You can usually get away with a universal needle. If you see that it's skipping stitches, then try a ballpoint needle. A ballpoint is also good for 100% cotton knits which sometimes get little holes from a uni needle. The fabric I used was just fine with the uni needle. Thanks for the question and for watching!
