Huh. This priest is giving false theology from Vatican II, and you should know better. He just said that there was only one Mass, mystically present through all time, and he equated that Mass with the Last Supper. That is heresy. The Mass is the sacrifice of Calvary. We are not all mystically present at the Last Supper. We are all mystically present at the foot of the Cross. Dude, how did you not catch that?

I left the Catholic Church in 1979. I studied and went to Bible college and seminary and pastored Assemblies of God Churches for 39 years. But....at retirement I felt empty. Why? I missed the reverence of the RCC. I began to study those Scriptures again that spoke of the Eucharist, in addition, I began an intense study of early Church history. The result? I must "confess" That the Catholic Church is in fact the true Church. By no means am I saying that if you are not Catholic you are damned to hell. What I am saying is if you sincerely want to be as close as possible to how the early church worshipped you should strongly consider the Catholic church. If you do nothing else, study the Bible and church history for yourself and then make your decision. I also urge you to sincerely pray.

Thanks John for being so honest. I also think with the Catholic Church that there is a treasure trove of writers, saints, theology. And let's face it, most visions are experienced by Catholic children, with shrines around the world (eg. Our Lady of Champion, Fatima, Lourdes, Medjugorje)visited by millions. I think that says it all.

Absolutely the best way to explain mass and what happens there. I especially liked the priest's comment about God brushing away time and space. I have always felt that we are truly present at the Cross because His sacrifice on the Cross broke through time and space so we could be there. And we are--at Mass. As far as being bored. When I was young I could get bored. As a child I was constantly asking my mother when it would be over. As a much older adult I am in awe of the Mass and what is happening there. I could never go to a protestant Sunday service and get anything out of it. They are just plain DULL! A few prayers, and few hymns and a long talk about a verse or two from the bible. The Bible is all. Occasionally they will have their idea of communion, usually a symbol only kind of thing. Not the real deal! Glad I am Catholic and have come to a more understanding of the Mass and what is going on there. The only true worship to God.

I noticed the priest at the consecration says it differently than a Protestant minister. I’m not an English major, so I looked up the tense used by the priest. It’s the Future-Progressive Tense i.e. “ In the future, I will be playing tennis.” “ This is my body which, WILL BE, given up for you”. This event is on going and it puts the priest hours before ( back to the last Supper) the real event, that has yet to happen. and will be happening in the future, every time a priest calls down Jesus… like when Jesus told the Apostles, what was going to happen to him very shortly. The sacrifice is always ON GOING. Protestant language always says “ is given “ the body of Jesus is given to you. Sorry, maybe I’m way out in Space on this!

Catholic priests say it the way it has been said for well over a thousand years. Only ordained Catholic priests have the ability to confect the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus. Catholic priests, through Apostolic succession, can trace their ordination back through history to one of the Apostles and to Jesus. The Eucharist is only available through the Catholic Church.

While Eastern Orthodox Christians have much in common with Catholics, they’re still in schism-they’ve split off from the legitimate authority of the pope-and therefore aren’t Catholics. Can Roman Catholics receive communion at an Orthodox church? Yes, but like anyone else, they must first go through the process of joining the Orthodox Church, which involves setting aside former church memberships. Non-Orthodox Christians of any sort may not receive communion at an Orthodox church without doing this. There are no “walk-ins” for communion. At the same time, Orthodox Christians are also not permitted to commune anywhere but in an Orthodox church, and they also have to be prepared by prayer, fasting and a recent confession If you also note, while the Orthodox Church has remained stagnant in terms of growth, the Catholic Church is growing - while becoming less European and American, it is growing in continents such as Africa and Asia, a testament to the Holy Spirit working in His Church.

@tatie7604 Jesus and the Apostles spoke Aramaic. It was the vernacular in and around Jerusalem and Judea. In the Temple, they mostly spoke Hebrew. When they wrote, it was usually in Hebrew or Koine Greek. Knowing Aramaic helps to better understand the New Testament, as does Koine Greek and Hebrew. It is very difficult to interpret the Bible accurately without knowing all three, as they were spoken in the first century.

In heaven we get the beatific vision of God the Father. That is a never ending joy beyond any expectation. In heaven we get to be with Jesus Christ in a most intimate way of holy communion. This union is beyond the great love we experience in marriage and children. Yet it is a similar type of bond that the bride church gets to live in paradise. In heaven we get to be filled with the Holy Spirit who will enhance our animation with love as pure as the angels. In heaven we will be full of Grace along with The Blessed Mother. When Jesus proclaimed the Good News he was truly proclaiming the Kingdom we are called to. Carry your cross with heaven in mind and let’s try to spread the Good News!

At 7:30, this is what I personally believe, That the Sacrifice at the Cross is Timeless and not bound by a time constraint, applicable to all the Eucharistic sacrifices at the altar by this one and only self sufficient sacrifice.... In the last few days, i found myself deeply saddened because of the word Renactment and Representation regarding the Eucharist, i feel like the justification for the sameness between the sacrifice of the mass and of the cross on ground of same victim and same offerer a little ambiguous, rather i believe, it should have mentioned clearly that the sacrifice at the cross and at the altar are the same, since it is the same sacrifice 2000 years ago that is brought at the altar or we being brought to the Calvary. Is there anyone who can help me, I'm in a crisis of faith not regarding the real presence but regarding what is really present i.e Which Sacrifice? Which Christ, the Christ of the cross or the Christ of the Resurrection? If it is the Christ of the Resurrection, woukd it mean that it is a new sacrifice?

Reading scripture in context is so important! Chapter 6 :63 of the book of John tells us: Jesus is-speaking spiritually about the bread we celebrate in remembrance of Him-and then when you connect the passage of John 14:26 Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit when he left this earth! Furthermore,Jesus completed the 1 sacrifice: verse 12 of chapter 10 Hebrews states: “ but when this priest/Jesus had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he said down at the right hand of God!” He said on the cross: “It is finished”! John 19:30 No more representations or sacrifices are needed; He leaves us the Holy Spirit! We are awaiting the 2nd coming! He is with the Father in Heaven until He comes in Glory! Hebrews 1:3 …. “And He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Only through reading the word can we have clarity. 🙏🏻💫📖

Transubstitiation happens during the offering of the Eucaristic Host and wine. Transforming these to becoming the body and blood of Jesus Christ. It was the night of Jewish Passover . The Passover Prayers said in the Temple in Jerusalem were His Death Prayers. Every person before execution has a last meal. He incorporated His Death into the meal. Mass is Jewish Passover Prayers said in the Temple Consecration of the last meal /Crucifixion and Resurrection. Jews had true worship they worshipped the Messiah in advance but, had the Symbolic Paschal Lamb . On the night He was betrayed He becomes the Sacrificial lamb. When Chris suggests that the pulpit is not the “center of the Catholic worship”, Father Riley replies, “right” which implies that the reading of the “Word of God” is of minor importance. That's not what the Father actually said or meant. At a Protestant "worship" it's all about the person behind the pulpit. It is all about their interpretation of scripture. The summit of a Protestant worship is the sermon. Most Protestant churches don't even have an altar. So there is no real "worship" by sacrifice being done. At a Catholic Mass the homily (sermon) is a minor part and is usually to link the reading from the Old Testament with the Gospel reading. The most important part happens AFTER the homily: The Liturgy of the Eucharist. Offering up to God the only gift we have that is worthy of his glory--His Son on the cross.

It's so not a minor part that we all stand for the Gospel, and the priest raises the book with the Gospels in it over his head to proceed from the altar to the ambo (pulpit or lectern), to be read. When the priest begins, he kisses the written word, and proclaims, "A reading from the Gospel of St. _______." Then he traces a big cross on the page. And the laity reply, "Glory to you, O Lord.", and then we cross ourselves three times with our thumb and forefinger; on our forehead, our lips, and over our heart, saying silently, "May the Gospel always be on my mind, on my lips, and in my heart." We don't sit until the priest is finished reading and proclaims, "The Gospel of the Lord." Then the laity respond, "Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ." If THAT isn't taking it seriously or making a big deal out of it, I don't know would would be.

The altar is the center and focus of the Mass. That's where the worship is conducted, just as has always been since before Abraham. The priest isn't the "star" of the show. A perfect Mass would be if nobody could remember who the priest was.

Didn't the other apostles know that Peter was the pope? Of course not. Did Jesus stand up and defend his "pope" or the papacy? Jesus did no such thing. Next point on this matter. Jesus had already declared who HE thought was the greatest. In the gospel of Matthew Jesus said this. "Verily I say unto you, of them born of women,there has not risen a greater than John the Baptist". So biblically speaking, who was the greatest? Jesus never said anything remotely close to that about peter. I wonder why John was the one chosen to prepare the way of the Lord?. It makes no sense for Jesus to appoint peter as the pope in Matthew 16 and a few verses later Jesus rebuked him. Rebuked by saying "get behind me Satan". The pope is nothing but a myth ok cal position appointed by Rome. Who the pope himself claims everyone shou lad be subject to and who says he is the vicar of Christ. You won't find that in scripture. When Jesus ascended he prayed to the Father who sent the Holy Spirit to be with us til the end of time. Please show me the scripture I missed that says the pope was left in charge of the church. Peter never referred to himself as a pope. Peter calls himself a servant, an apostle, a fellow elder and a man as he did to Cornelius. Peter was never called the pope by Jesus, the apostles or even Mary. I guess the most important question to you is this. Where does scripture say Jesus, the apostles or Mary were catholic? If you read closely everything scripture says points to them being Jewish. No record of any conversion, peter or anyone doing anything "catholic" in the bible. Peter never said a mass. The Transubstantiation occurs when the Priest blesses the bread and wine, transforming them into The Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior. Cannibalism is the eating of a bloody dead body, Jesus Christ is not dead and offers Himself to us in a non bloody way, even though He suffered a bloody Passion.

Nope. That is exactly what happens at the Catholic Mass. We are taken back in time to the foot of the cross, literally. We are present at the crucifixion that to God--who exists outside of time--can still see His Son being crucified on the cross. It is a re-presentation of the crucifixion. Jesus is present on the altar in the species of bread and wine. He is there, body, blood, soul, and divinity, being offered up to His Father. EXACTLY how Jesus did it at the Last Supper, which was the very first Mass.

First, we must understand that the term brother has a wide semantic range in Scripture. It can mean a uterine brother, an extended relative, or even a spiritual brother. In Genesis 13:8 and 14:12, we read of one example of brother being used to describe an extended relationship: Abraham and Lot. Though they were actually uncle and nephew, they called one another “brother.” Moreover, in the New Testament, Jesus told us to call one another “brothers” in Matthew 23:8. The passage obviously does not mean to suggest that all Christians have the same physical mother. Notice, the “James” of whom Paul was speaking was both a “brother of the Lord” and an “apostle.” There are two apostles named James among the 12. The first James is revealed to be a “son of Zebedee.” He most likely would not be the “James” referred to because according to Acts 12:1-2 he was martyred very early on. Even if it was him, his father was named Zebedee, not Joseph. Paul more likely is referring to the second James who was an apostle, according to Luke 6:15-16. This James is revealed to have a father named Alphaeus, not Joseph. Thus, James the apostle and Jesus were not uterine brothers. Easy enough. Some will argue, however, that this “James” was not an apostle or that he was not one of the original 12. Though this is a possibility-others in the New Testament, such as Barnabas in Acts 14, are referred to as “apostles” in a looser sense-the argument from Scripture is weak. When Paul wrote about going “up to Jerusalem” to see Peter, he was writing about an event that occurred many years earlier, shortly after he had converted. He was basically going up to the apostles to receive approval lest he “should be running or had run in vain.” It would be more likely he would have here been speaking about “apostles” (proper), or “the twelve.” But for those inclined to argue the point, the Catechism of the Catholic Church uses another line of reasoning: The Church has always understood these passages as not referring to other children of the Virgin Mary. In fact James and Joseph, “brothers of Jesus,” are the sons of another Mary, a disciple of Christ, whom St. Matthew significantly calls “the other Mary.” They are close relations of Jesus, according to an Old Testament expression. (CCC 500) The Catechism here refers to the fact that 14 chapters after we find the “brothers” of the Lord listed as “James, Joseph, Simon and Judas,” we find “James and Joseph” mentioned again, but this time their mother is revealed as being named Mary, but not Mary, the Mother of Jesus. We can conclude that “James and Joseph” are “brothers” of Jesus, but they are not uterine brothers. But what about Matthew 1:24-25, and the claim Jesus was Mary’s “firstborn son” and that Joseph “knew her not until” Christ was born? Does Matthew here teach that Mary had other children? Exodus 13:1-2 reveals something very important about the firstborn in Israel: “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Consecrate to me all the firstborn; whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and beast, is mine.’” The “firstborn” were not given the title because there was a “second-born.” They were called “firstborn” at birth. Jesus being “firstborn” does not require that more siblings be born after him. Until Then Scripture’s statement that Joseph “knew [Mary] not until she brought forth her firstborn” would not necessarily mean they did “know” each other after she brought forth Jesus. Until is often used in Scripture as part of an idiomatic expression similar to our own usage in English. I may say to you, “Until we meet again, God bless you.” Does that necessarily mean after we meet again, God curse you? By no means. A phrase like this is used to emphasize what is being described before the until is fulfilled. It is not intended to say anything about the future beyond that point. Here are some biblical examples: 2 Samuel 6:23: And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to (until) the day of her death. (Does this mean she had children after she died?) 1 Timothy 4:13: Until I come, attend to the public reading of scripture, to preaching, to teaching. (Does this mean Timothy should stop teaching after Paul comes?) 1 Corinthians 15:25: For he (Christ) must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. (Does this mean Christ’s reign will end? By no means! Luke 1:33 says, “he will reign over the house of Jacob forever and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”) In recent years, some have argued that because Matthew 1:25 uses the Greek words heos hou for “until” whereas the texts I mentioned above from the New Testament use heos alone, there is a difference in meaning. The argument goes that Heos hou indicates the action of the first clause does not continue. Thus, Mary and Joseph “not having come together” would have ended after Jesus was born. The problems with this theory begin with the fact that no available scholarship concurs with it. In fact, the evidence proves the contrary. Heos hou and heos are used interchangeably and have the same meaning. Acts 25:21 should suffice to clear up the matter: “But when Paul had appealed to be kept in custody for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be held until (Gk. heos hou) I could send him to Caesar.” Does this text mean that Paul would not be held in custody after he was “sent” to Caesar? Not according to the biblical record. He would be held in custody while in transit (see Acts 27:1) and after he arrived in Rome for a time (see Acts 29:16). The action of the main clause did not cease with heos hou. The Affirmative Argument Now let’s look at some reasons to believe in Mary’s perpetual virginity. Among the many we could examine, we will briefly consider three: 1. In Luke 1:34, when Mary was told by the angel Gabriel that she was chosen to be the Mother of the Messiah, she asked the question, literally translated from the Greek, “How shall this be since I know not man?” This question makes no sense unless Mary had a vow of virginity. When we consider that Mary and Joseph were already “espoused,” according to verse 27 of this same chapter, we understand Mary and Joseph already have what would be akin to a ratified marriage in the New Covenant. They were married. That would mean Joseph would have had the right to the marriage bed. Normally, after the espousal the husband would go off and prepare a home for his new bride and then come and receive her into his home where the union would be consummated. This is precisely why Joseph intended to “divorce her quietly” (Mt 1:19) when he later discovered she was pregnant. This background is significant because a newly married woman would not ask the question “How shall this be?” She would know-unless, of course, that woman had taken a vow of virginity. Mary believed the message, but wanted to know how this was going to be accomplished. This indicates she was not planning on the normal course of events for her future with Joseph. 2. In John 19:26, Jesus gave his Mother to the care of John even though by law the next eldest sibling would have the responsibility to care for her. It is unthinkable that Jesus would take his Mother away from his family in disobedience to the law. Some claim Jesus did this because his brothers and sisters were not there. They had left him. Thus, Jesus committed his Mother to John, who was faithful and present at the foot of the cross. This claim betrays a very low and unbiblical Christology. As John tells us, Jesus “knew all men” (cf. Jn 2:25). If James were his uterine brother, Jesus would have known he would be faithful along with his “brother” Jude. The fact is Jesus had no brothers and sisters, so he had the responsibility, on a human level, to take care of his Mother. 3. Mary is depicted as the spouse of the Holy Spirit in Scripture. In Luke 1:34, when Mary asks the angel how she will conceive a child, the angel responds: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.” This is nuptial language hearkening back to Ruth 3:8, where Ruth said to Boaz “spread your skirt over me” when she revealed to him his duty to marry her according to the law of Deuteronomy 25. When Mary became pregnant, Joseph would have been required to divorce her because she would then belong to another (see Dt 24:1-4; Jer 3:1). But when Joseph found out that “the other” was the Holy Spirit, the idea of his having conjugal relations with Mary was not a consideration. Mary’s Protector An obvious question remains: Why did St. Joseph then “take [Mary] his wife” according to Matthew 1:24 if she belonged to the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is Mary’s spouse, but Joseph was her spouse and protector on this earth for at least two obvious reasons. First, as Matthew points out in his genealogy in chapter 1, Joseph was in line to be a successor of David as King of Israel. Thus, if Jesus was to be the true “son of David” and king of Israel (see 2 Sm 7:14, Heb 1:5, Rv 19:16, 22:16), he needed to be the son of Joseph. As the only son of Joseph, even though adopted, he would have been in line for the throne. Also, in a culture that did not take too kindly to espoused women getting pregnant by someone other than their spouse, Mary would have been in mortal danger. So Joseph became Mary’s earthly spouse and protector as well as the protector of the child Jesus.

Christ is not sacrificed again, the Church teaches that there is only one sacrifice and Jesus is already in heaven. In the Mass, the sacrifice of the Cross is made present and we participate in this eternal event..

You should be. Is that why you're here? Because we are just so normal man? There may be Catholics who do evil just like there are protestants do things their church says are wrong. There are Catholics who are faithful to what the Church teaches and Catholics who choose to sin. As Jesus said, there are both wheat and tares in the Church. We don't judge anyone to be guilty by association. We don't judge the truth of the Church by the people who don't follow what the Church teaches. We don't judge Jesus as a traitor because of what Judas did. We don't say all teachers are bad because of the few bad teachers who have molested their students. Where do you get that idea from? Who taught you that? I think you may want to read some of the early church fathers to see what many have to say about the Eucharist, one of that heard the apostle John was Polycarp of Smyrna. He wrote 6 letters before he was martyred. I would recommend researching Martin Luther and Calvin and read their actual words and writing before they went in a different direction, or better yet listen to the series from Augustine Institute. It will show you that the faithful in the Church (only one Universal) all had faith in the Eucharist that Jesus talked about in John 6. Why do you think it was a hard teaching and so many left? It take faith and trust to believe in the words of Jesus. Just as it takes that same faith through the Holy Spirit to believe that he died and was resurrected. Is that hocus-pocus, some would say so and have. What was the Church for 1,500 before the Reformation? To know truth you have to search and pray with a sincere heart.

@@cindychronis7857 have you ever read a church approved book called "faith of millions"? In the book John O'Brien matter of factly describes what takes place in the eucharist. First and foremost The most important ? For you is where does scripture say ONLY the priest has the power to reach up into heaven and bring Christ down onto the altar? Besides if it is really the body of Christ how is it these wafers are made by nuns in some factory? So what happens to the leftover "body of Christ"? Does it return to it's wafer state. The wafer state that never really changed but you are told you must believe or you are damned? If you are to really drink his blood why doesn't your allow you to partake if the blood? You see the Hocus pocus in all this? That is not how scripture says the Last supper took place. O'Brien goes on to say that he has more power than the "blessed virgin Mary". I guess that's amounts to zero because Mary was not given any special powers, names by Jesus. In fact the in Luke you will find that she is called the "handmaid of the Lord". Or you can correct me if I'm wrong. So where did I get that from? From a church approved book that is nothing but church propaganda.

"Hocus pocus" ... well, I suppose you can have that interpretation if you choose. But it's interesting to me that protestants who are so laser focused on the Bible (alone) seem to feel comfortable ignoring the vary plain words (and context) of what Christ said in John 6, and in the institution narratives in the synoptic gospels. I pray that your hardened heart might one day come to see the tremendous gift Christ gave us ... food for the journey, the perfected manna. Pax Christi.

@@kdmdlo no we don't ignore the words of Christ. Christ did not literally mean to eat his body and drink his blood. Let me ask you, did Jesus turn into s door? Did Nicodemus go back into his mother's womb? When Jesus said we are the salt, did we turn into salt. So your church just arbitrarily picked John 6 to deceive many. Mostly by claiming that the priest has power to bring Christ onto the altar. Christ actually explains what he meant later in v 63. It's just that your church ignores the latter part of John 6. Jesus says that it is the Spirit that quickeneth, the flesh profits nothing. He said the words that he spoke are Spirit and THEY are life. What does your so called first pope say? He echoes Christ's words in his epistles when he said that Christ died ONCE, the just for the unjust and was quickened by the spirit. I encourage you to read Hebrews 7, 9, and 10. There you will find that Jesus made ONE sacrifice, ONCE for all time. You Catholics seem to have trouble with the words once or one. Such as one God, one mediator. And if you notice those Hebrew scriptures I mentioned repeatedly use the words one and once for a reason. i wonder why Jesus proclaimed "it is finished" as he died? Yet your church continues to crucify Christ over and over and over. It's like Hebrews say the priest continues to make the same sacrifice that can not take away any sins. You know why? Because the one time death if Christ on the cross was sufficient. I wonder why Christ said "it is finished? One quick side question why is the next coming if Christ called the "second coming"? Why does scripture say that when he comes it will be with power and glory and that EVERY eye will see him. Yet you Catholics see him everyday? I guess the biggest catholic problem with the eucharist is where does scripture say that only a priest can do the mass? Where does scripture say that the priest has the power to bring Christ down onto the altar? Interesting that John O'Brien wrote a book, I am sure you are aware of it because it is approved reading by your church. It's "faith of millions". In that book he says a priest has more power than seraphim and cherubim. Now get this, he says that the priest has even more power than the "blessed virgin Mary". Pretty amazing when we all know Mary was given no special powers. At least not anything verifiable by scripture. But according to the church, Mary has the same powers as God. So a priest is more powerful than God? I can't find any of this in scripture anywhere. Can you help me out. Besides you Catholics all say that you must eat his body and drink his blood. Truth is your hocus pocus church doesn't allow you to drink the so called blood, does it? So you and your church violates the very scripture you claim to abide by and that protestants ignore. So where does scripture say NOT to drink the blood because your priest is afraid you'll spill it? Finally, if the wafer is really the body of Christ, why are the wafers made in some factory by nuns? Another point. What happens to the remaining parts of the body? Does the priest return Jesus back to heaven? So you see your church's undignified manner in which it performs this mass is nothing like described in scripture and raises many questions you have no answers for.
