In this episode, Pastor Curtis dives into a frequently asked question: "What is the difference between Catholics and Roman Catholics? Are they the same or different?"
Episode Highlights:
* Understanding the Terminology: Pastor Curtis explains the differences and similarities between Catholics and Roman Catholics.
* Individual Churches/Rites: Learn about the various rites within the Catholic Church and how local customs differentiate them.
* Theological Distinctions: Pastor Curtis discusses key doctrinal differences, mainly on salvation. According to official Roman Catholic doctrine, salvation involves faith plus works, whereas the Bible emphasizes salvation by grace alone through faith alone (citing passages like 2 Corinthians 11:4 and Galatians 6:1).

Firstly, thank you for acknowledging the different rites in the Church. Secondly, it is the Roman Catholicism can be more accurately described as the “Latin” rite rather than Roman rite. Thirdly, we do not believe you can do anything to earn salvation initially. We are saved by grace through faith. After being baptized, however, all you need to “do” is not reject God’s grace. We believe that everyone has the free will to reject or accept God’s grace. Fourthly, we do not believe that the Sacraments are works. Why? Because when someone is baptized or take communion, the one doing the work is God alone. We are simply open to receiving God’s grace. This misunderstanding about how one is saved is misdirected. Our real disagreement is whether or not God ordinarily saves us through baptism (since we don’t believe the sacraments are works of men by the work of God alone).

How do Protestants know whether their interpretation of Holy Scripture is correct? Which doctrinal dispute between different Protestant groups has been settled by Sola Scriptura?

"you have been saved through faith", yes that's true, but it doesn't say "by faith alone". so James 2:24 is just wrong then?

They always leave out James 2:24 because they cannot reconcile it with their "sola fide" doctrine. This is why Martin Luther called James an “epistle of straw”.

Ephesians 2:8" For it is by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works so that no man can boast." James 2:14-24 This is not a works for eternal salvation! This is talking about works in helping your fellow man instead of wishing him well that his needs are met, instead of actually doing something about it. Catholics are thinking they're doing works for salvation. When you add works to Jesus's sacrifice you dishonor everything he died for and you're saying it's not good enough! When any born again Christian do a good work were doing to help people, not to help improve our chances to get into Heaven no! The difference is your intentions behind the work. I'm already saved through grace, repent of your sins; confess that Jesus is Lord and that God raised him from the grave.

You really should do some research before going on the internet....The Catecism will give you the actual teachings of the Church (and the Church is the body of Christ) rather than your version of what The Church allegedly teaches.......also note...1 Tim 3:15...The Church is the pillar and bulwark of the truth...

We Catholics fully believe that we have been saved by grace, but there is also the expectation that we must cooperate with that grace. Phil 2:12 explicitly states that we must "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." James 2:14-26 gives a good treatise on this as well where it is mentioned in verse 18, "But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works."

Yes it’s faith that saves but one who is in the kingdom of god does as god wills and he wills us to bear good fruit. You shall know them by their fruit. A fruit tree is useless if it produces no fruit, cast into the fire for waisting good soil, called a fruit tree but plucked like a weed
