Confession is not always easy, but it's definitely a great feeling when you get it all out there and you receive Absolution from the priest and you know that you are forgiven. The secret I find is to not let too many weeks build up, so hopefully not too many serious sins have occurred. When you have blessed to unload, you are less nervous. Hoping this help somebody. Trust me I've unloaded some Whoppers. I'm going to get in the habit now of going more often so it won't be such a hard thing to do. I'm aiming for twice a month. Confession is a beautiful sacrament, we are blessed to have it as Catholics.

Seriously, after a priest's first year as a priest he's more than likely to have heard it all already. Go to a priest you are comfortable with. You WILL find it easier to confess. Some priests ask many questions. It is to advise you, but I know at times there are priests I prefer over others. There is nothing wrong with that. Just my two cents.

Remember, confessing mortal sins are a must....period. Watching some of these videos make it seem so difficult and it's not. Take a few minutes to examine yourself before you go into the confessional. You don't have to spend minutes and minutes doing it. I guess I don't find it so difficult because I go frequently. Seriously, if you go at least once a month, and as time goes by you will find it much easier. State any mortal sins first, you will find it easier to confess lesser sins. I guess it's easy for me to say because I went to a Catholic grade school and the sisters were a great help to us in a proper and good confession.

We sin throughout ea day so without regular confession of sin, the promise of continual cleansing is rendered null and void resulting in broken fellowship. "If we confess our sins, 'HE' is faithful & just to forgive us our sins & to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1Jn1:9. In Mt 27:51 when Christ died on the cross "The veil was rent from top to bottom" signifying that no longer was a priest needed for 'confession that formally only one priest was allowed to present to God. Mk 2:7 "Who can forgive sins but God only?" Christ opened the door to the Throneroom of Grace where GOD said we may come at anytime, including confession. God doesn't want to wait a (RCC MONTH), to hear from a confession, he asks for immediate repentance. If I stole from u would u wait a month? Proof that ONLY GOD can forgive sin: Mt 6:14 "For if u forgive other people when they sin against u, ur heavenly 'Father' will also forgive u". Eph 4:32 "Be kind & compassionate to one another, forgiving even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you",

Of course all Christians have a right to go directly to God. As Catholics we ritualize God's forgiveness, we ritualize our repentance in a rite where we can physically express our sorrow and actually hear words of forgiveness. and receive God's pardon and grace through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Baptism is a ritual where we feel the water and hear the words and know that we belong to God. All our Sacraments are rituals where what we celebrate actually happens. We are not pure spirits. All our learning is through our senses. That's why Jesus became one of us, to show us in a concrete way how God is. He knew we needed ritual, to taste, touch, hear, smell and see. I'm sorry you cannot understand us, but you can never tell us what we ought not do. Catholics celebrate the ways God shares Life with us.

You would be best to make an appointment with a Priest, explain the situation and he will probably tell you to make a General Confession. When making a General Confession don't think about I've sinned 82 times and this other sin 419 times. Do, one time, 10 times, or more than 100 times. So say you've killed four people in your 80 plus years, you would say I confess the sin of murder four times. But if you use the Lord's name in vain everyday in those 80 plus years just say I've used our Lord's name in vain over 100 times or I've blasphemed over a hundred times. If you have received Holy Communion once a year for those 80 plus years but you were not in a State of Grace before doing that say over the past 60 years, then you would say I confess receiving our Lord out of the State of Grace between 50 and 100 times. Exactness is always preferred but it can be hard and a willful attempt to reveal all sins is better; the Church understands that you may not remember every number of sin. So this generalization get you in the ballpark. Above all know that God knows your heart and wants to forgive your sins! Also remember, there's only one sin that cannot be forgiven and that is the sin against the Holy Ghost. This is two part it's either obstinate denial or obstinate despair. The former is you don't think that what you've done needs God's forgiveness. The latter is you have sinned so bad that you don't think God can forgive you. All sins can be forgiven my friend. You just need a contrite heart and the willful attempt to sin no more. Lastly do not procrastinate. Do this today! I will pray for you. Please pray for the Church and for me, a wicked sinner.. Ave Maria!

I haven't gone to church regularly for years, but I'm oh so very religious, my priest friend advised me to go to a priest and ask how to do a good confession, but make an appointment, so if I need time to talk about that he will be able to take the time and help me. I know that the priest supporting me through things said that he knows me too well, so this something he can't direct me too, when you are close to a priest, it isn't good to seek help on something like the confession issue, it woulden't be helpful.

@mts0628

Yes as long as you are contrite. Remember the only sin that cannot be forgiven is the sin against the Holy Ghost. That is a two-fold sin, obstinate denial or obstinate despair. Obstinate denial means that you don't think what you did was a sin so you don't ask for God's forgiveness. Obstinate despair is you think that your sin is so terrible that God will not forgive you of your sin. Both of these are fatal traps. Trust in our Lord's Mercy, and do not be afraid. The priest is not there to chastise you but to guide you back to Salvation. Ave Maria!

My elderly dad hadn't been to confession for about 10 years and wanted to receive the sacraments again. I contacted our parish priest on his behalf and I was there as requested when the priest visited my dad. Arrangements were made for the priest to come at a later date to hear my dads confession. Everything fine. But..... Then the priest said he wanted me present for my dads confession and he said I can have the seal of the confessional as well. Needless to say I was very uncomfortable with this and I didn't attend for my dads confession. I didn't think it was appropriate. My question is - should this priest have requested me to be there at my dads confession? I felt very uncomfortable and the part where he seemed to treat the sacred seal so lightly?? What I did instead was do an examination of conscience with my dad, wrote it down and left it in a sealed envelope for the priest. Thanks for your help. 😊

He forgot to say to make a thorough examination of conscience before going to confession. It takes time to do this especially if you havent gone to confession in a long time. This is essential because you need to tell all your mortal sins to the priest, and ultimately to God. If you leave out any mortal sins because you didnt do a thorough examination, then your confession wont be a good one and will still have mortal sin on your soul that God expected you to confess. The Church teaches that it takes only one mortal sin to go to hell. So if you dont know how to properly do confession in the Church, then you must learn it before going there. It is something not to be taken lightly. Bad confessions will lead to more sins such as receiving Our Lord unworthily, that is, in the state of mortal sin, at Holy Communion.

Absolution of mortal sin is the prime objective of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. As John wrote, those are the sins that kill God's gift of grace and separate us from Him. Repentance and absolution of venial sins (sins that wound our relationship with Christ) are forgiven during the Sacrifice of the Mass by the priest after the Confiteor: I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do; through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. “If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life - to those who commit sins that do not lead to death” (1 John 5:16

Exodus 6:23 Aaron (Priest) took to himself Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Nahshon, as wife; and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. Aaron was a prophet, high priest, and the elder brother of Moses in the Abrahamic religions. Knowledge of Aaron, along with his brother Moses, comes exclusively from religious texts, such as the Bible Exodus 6:25 Eleazar, (Priest) Aaron’s son, took for himself one of the daughters of Putiel as wife; and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites according to their families. Priests were married and had children, how is it that the Catholic church has the gall to change the Word of God? I guess you catholics know better than God who created the universe and people. I'd like to see you explain yourself out of that one LOL. 1 Timothy 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. Why does the priest who listens to the sinner’s sins during confessional ask for a donation in exchange for expiation? Why does the priest sometimes ask for double the donation in exchange for the sinner being able to have a future sin forgiven or expiated? Just last week there was a story in Utah of a 26 year old admitting to murdering an elderly couple and stealing their credit cards during a confessional. The Priest during confessional asked for a $1,000 donation by credit card in exchange for forgiving the sin of murder & theft. Isn’t this an abuse of a confessional? During the confessional the priest asked for an additional $1,000 just in case the sinner wanted to repeat the crime with a second victim. 54544

Brother or sister in Christ, First I hear of this, if true, it’s not Catholic teaching and one bad priest doesn’t prove Catholicism false.. doesn’t erase 2000 years of faith and teaching.. if you say that Catholicism is not Biblical you are deeply deeply mistaken.. show me the word Bible in the Bible? Show me the word biblical? The Bible does not mention the Bible as being the only source Christians may use to seek God. The word Bible comes from Greek that means book or scroll… You must also know the Catholic Church compiled the Bible and a Catholic pope approved the books of the cannon that many people worship today and call themselves Christian while spreading falsehoods about the first Christians (Catholics), same Christian’s that gave them the Bible.. Catholicism is The Church that Jesus Christ founded.. your problem is not with Catholicism, it is with your pre conceived beliefs about Catholicism.. remember that people are not perfect, Gods children fall short, including His priests.. doesn’t mean His Church is wrong.. I hope this message finds you well, much love and God Bless!

@@Greenchile1234 The entirety of Christianity is false. In fact, Christianity is so scared to death of Deuteronomy 13:1 that Christianity actually removed Deuteronomy 13:1 from the Bible and stuck it at the end of Deuteronomy chapter 12 in most newer bibles in the hopes no one will see the scripture or God forbid read it as Deuteronomy 13:1 prohibits reading the New Testament. There are about 700 other things Christianity changed in the Old Testament to make it wrongfully support the false conclusion that the Old Testament mentions Jesus Christ. Just take the books that mention king Hezekiah. Christianity changed the verb tense from “a savior was born” to “will be born” because Christianity wants you to wrongfully think the chapter is talking about Jesus Christ when it was in fact referring to king Hezekiah. Even Christianity’s baloney claim that Jesus was the Messiah is a joke as scripture says in multiple places that the Messiah must be from the line of David. As you know Christianity claims Mary was impregnated by God & God can’t be from the line of David or He would be human. Such pig crap!

Ok about the sex videos, but since when did scary movies become a sin? The phrase that comes to mind is a "scrupulous conscience" - “An unfounded apprehension and consequently unwarranted fear that something is a sin which, as a matter of fact, is not; to see sin everywhere and in everything". Horror movies are just movies. I grew up with them, and never gave them a thought, nor plan to. How are they sins?

There are no prophets .. There are lots of profits.. Confession protects the abuser and not the child. Communion is the eating of humans. Evil is as evil does... I look like a human .. I sound like a human . I don't think like a human. And here's the reason why... I'm an angel in disguise , On a world of lies .. A truther in disguise, on a world of lies . I don't see your prophets , I see your profits. I don't see you buy bull , I see you sell bull...

@A SOHC Civic You realize sedevacantism is heretical right? To not believe they are ordained is to have protestant views by stating the successors of Peter did not have the power to change the ordinary form of the mass.

A Catholic priest does not have the power to forgive you of your sins! The Bible wants you to REPENT of your sins to GOD in heaven! I use to be a Catholic but then I left after I read the Bible and it opened my eyes! SO READ THE BIBLE and let it open your eyes too! Don't believe anything the Catholic church says unless it is backed up with Bible evidence. God Bless you!!

The Church predates the Sacred Scriptures of the New Testament. The Church chose the books you read today. St. John expressed it well when he said that there are many other things that Jesus said and did that are not written in this book, and he added that there would not be room in the whole world for the books. Check out the last chapters of John's Gospel for yourself.

All believers have direct access to God, no need to confess to a celibate man. This only pollutes the mind of another person who has no business knowing the sins of me, my wife or young daughters. The history of the confessional is a sordid one indeed. I know this may be offensive to some, but go to Christ alone for forgiveness, He is the only mediator between man and God the Father i Tim. 2:5

Wrong, we must confess to a Priest who is acting as Christ (Persona Christi). After that, we are guarenteed Heaven.

@@Thurifer2005 What about confessing to Christ directly?-HE is alive waiting for intercession 1J2:1, 1Tim2:5 How could you even say ‘priest as Christ?- it is the blasphemy to compare SON of GOD to a sinful priest giving him the same power!!! You do NOT fear GOD ? You better repent from what you said !

Catholic Priests have not read God's word thoroughly in the Bible, If so, they would know that you no longer confess to a man, ( a priest ). You now can confess and talk directly to God through the holy Spirit, ever since ACTS Chapter 2 in the King James Bible. The Catholic Church keeps this information from you. And you should go to a Bible believing church where they have the real word of God open on the pulpit, which is the King James Bible the real Word from the Lord. ( the creater of the stars above and everything )The truth. Also, there no longer should be a Lent sacrifice, Jesus was/ is the last sacrifice on the cross needed. "It is Finished" To continue any sacrifice act is blasphemy against God and you are saying Christ's sacrifice on the cross is not enough??? Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice..IT IS FINISHED. If a church makes up their own Bible and it's not the true word of God in the King James version of God's word, then it is blasphemy. The NIV and simplified is ok as long as it is the real word of God, and no verses have been changed or taken out by man.
