Each work by Dutilleux has been a wondrous discovery, including this beautiful, monumental piano sonata. And without histrionics she gives it full expression, with youthful energy and astonishing control and confidence.

Wow! Fantastic performance!! I moved to the Philippines and was just re-organizing my piano music when I came across this score. I had received it from a friend decades ago and had never opened it before. So to my delight I found your performance. I had so much fun studying the score and hearing and watching you play it! Thank you for the dedication to learning this and for such a thoughtful, sensitive, and dynamic interpretation. In spite of it being such a modern work you have grasped its meaning.

Bruce Jefferies The absolute clarity, lyricism and (when appropriate) stridence combined with a clear control over it all make this one of my all-time favorite performances of this masterwork. It's magnificent. Thanks for sharing this!

I agree. She plays this beautifully with clarity and effortless precision. It is a commanding performance. I am so glad that I found this. It is a romantic style with a tour de force, with elements of Messiaen and touches of La Jeune France and even Les Six.

This is one of the twentieth century's greatest piano masterpieces. Very surprised that it isn't better known in the US. Krier gives a wonderful performance (and also shows us the proper attire for a young artist-elegant but never detracting attention from the music itself!)

It is hard to believe that prokofiev or chostakovich's piano works are so widely played whereas this magnificient sonata is almost never performed by the great interpreters. I really wonder why, is the only reason because it is stereotypically labelled as "contemporary music"?
@jean-baptistelemen36814 жыл бұрын
Not to undermine the interpretation here, which is terrific!
@r4_in_space2 жыл бұрын
Some interpreters are bad, but you can't say any piece sounds like it does because of the interpretation. I personally like Dutilleux's work, but other compositions just wouldn't sound better to me if the interpretation was better. And there are also the ones that can't really be judged, like Cage's 4'33''. And it's "stereotypically" labelled as contemporary music because it is contemporary music, meaning from our time. In the 1700's, Bach was contemporary.
@MegaPianogenius7 жыл бұрын
great but i do prefer others
@gerardbegni28065 жыл бұрын
For sure, , this is not from the great Dutilleux. He was still on his way to his full genuis achievement, and this sonata is somehow a half-tone score, with some stilla cademic features. But it is very firmly built, the ideas are fully developed in a rich pianistic idiom, and the voice od h ther future Dutilleus is hidden here without any doubt. The middle section is for sure far from any Beethoven's imitation, but it is the same sprit than Beethoven when encompssaing and physically grasping the whole piano range.
