By chance I saw this lady whilst visiting the war graves and battlefield sites in Flanders. We were trying to find the resting place of Ellis Evans(Hedd Wyn)a Welsh language poet killed during the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917 when we spotted a Welsh harp at his graveside. Catrin was there filming a documentary about Ellis Evans for S4C and kindly gave us a short rendition of a piece used in the making, it was magical and made the visit so much more special. It made me so proud to be Welsh.

I cannot find the words to describe how beautiful this sounds and looks, or how wonderful it makes me feel. And I'll wager I am not alone. Catrin is truly phenominal on this instrument. And this truly must be the sound of angels. 💖 Her solo harp arrangement of this old ballad is every bit as beautiful as the lyrical version in Welsh, the most beautiful performance of which, my opinion, is by Katherine Jenkins. And it is Catrin's version here on harp that goes 'round in my head many times, as I go about my daily chores. Surely makes for a nicer day, every time. 🌴😊💖

I learnt it in school. It is quite haunting. “Lisa Lân (Fair Lisa) is a Welsh folk-song. It is a lover's lament for the late Lisa, ending when the heartsick lover asks Lisa to guide him to where she is, so that he may be reunited with her.”

Hi @Gerdes Olivier, it's the Silhouette - you can tell them apart as the Silhouette has the volume and three-band graphic equaliser towards the bottom left of the harp pillar (four black sliders) and also the jack lead connects at the bottom of the pillar. The Silhouette has a fatter and warmer tone than the Camacs too. G

This sounds like an improvisation on Lisa Lan from John Williams' album The Height Below (1973) which, in itself, was an arrangement of the traditional Irish air She Moved Through The Fair by Brian Gascoigne, a marimba player. It sounds very nice. I think it also shows how electrified instruments can bring an additional dimension to the solo performance of tunes by allowing for some additional textures.
@Jax80027 жыл бұрын
Thoughtful comment - thank you for your insight.
@jonesthephones4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, nothing to do with the Irish Air "She Moved through the fair" though the chords do move in a similar way (tune is in mixolydian mode, with flattened 7th note.) Lisa Lân is sung to an original Welsh air, the tune for which was once lost to Wales, then rediscovered in the Welsh colony of Patagonia, Argentina, as I understand it. The words are very poignant. Try this vocal version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poXScqSgnrNpj6s to see how the words add so much more to the tune :)
@johngough29583 жыл бұрын
@@jonesthephones It doesn't help that Williams calls it "Lisa Larne"! Having listened to it kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKispH2HiN2paqs&ab_channel=JohnWilliams-Topic, Williams rendition does seem to borrow from "She Moved Through the Fair". One thing that amazes me is the gems of folk music that rarely get played nowadays and which could have gone extinct - imagine how many have been lost.

Sharon Avis Intresting. I am a 50 year old Guitar player from S. Texas. I started playing when I was 13. I play rock, jazz, country, & some classical I used to play a lot in clubs in the Austin TX music scene. But now I returned to Corpus Christi to take care of my 83 year old father. I teach also-nice chatting with other musicians. My mother played classical piano. She was quite good. She loved Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, and a whole bunch other. She taught me my love for music. She passed away in 1998 I find the Harp one of the more intresting instruments, and I bet learning it well can take some time-very complex and expensive instrument
