It's like the de-aging tech, you can make a real person look really good (most people never notice what amounts to digital makeup being applied to actors in many big budget movies), but you can't create a person from scratch with CGI. They came close to the right balance (everything is at least motion captured on real sets) but not close enough.

I think part of it was that there was an expectation that the costumes have to be more intense than the live musical. And achieving that with actual costumes would hinder the dancing.

I was Grizabella back when my high school performed CATS. I admit, preparing for the play was weird, it was like we had to do “cat” training everyday. But once we got used to it, it helped play a huge factor in the overall performance. It was easily one of the best shows our school has ever performed and it won an award at a state competition. I have no doubts in my mind that this movie will also be so impressive and can’t wait to see my girl Tay kill it! ✊🏼

I don’t think anyone hates the fact that the story is weird, they hate the fact that the CGI with regards to the actors faces/bodies is so poorly done

I'm watching this, the amount of work and effort that they put into this is outstanding and I've fallen in love with the sets, and the cast, cats the musical is incredible and I believe this will be amazing so I'm pretty excited IDC about the CGI at all

The only musical I've ever seen. And I STILL love the soundtrack from the Original London Cast Recording. I get goosebumps when I hear it. How this is going to translate to an actual movie remains to be seen.

i watch classic sci fi movies from before the 70’ and i get entertained even if effects are ancient. this looks good and i will watch and enjoy art and the efforts of lots of great hard working people.

Seeing everybody's passion for the project really makes me happy and honestly I can look past the CGI because I do love CATS and it's always been strange and campy - if the music and the heart is there, and the set pieces and background are as beautiful as they look right now , it's going to be good- as for people complaining about how odd the scale of objects are , watch Bustopher Jones - 1998 filmmed version of cats - the spoon he's holding is as big as him.

Although the trailer for the film adaptation of Cats divided the internet when it was released last week, TS Eliot would likely have approved of the “rich strangeness” that has disturbed so many, according to his estate.
