I love how Mordecai didn't back down when Viktor said that, like "yeah, i know you were in the war, but I don't care. You're still an idiot". He doesn't care who you are, if you want his respect, you earn it. And as we can see from how loyal he still is to Atlas, that respect is undying

Before this, Mordecai and Viktor 'emptied' a whole speakeasy in the woods. Mordecai took a shot to the shoulder and fell down some stairs, so Viktor wasn't wrong. It's in the comic btw

If you didn’t know, Lackadaisy started around 10 years ago as a webcomic and all of their comics are online, there are also a few comic dubs as well on KZbin. So if you are interested in more information that would be a good place to check it out

I'm aware, yes! I just think I'd like to be kept in the dark for the moment and leave it all to surprise, so I'll likely check the webcomic and and dubs after season 1! But still, thank you so much!

I ran to the Lackadaisy channel so fast just so I could watch the mini episodes first before this one! I kinda forgot that they released these contents because of life reasons haha. Viktor and Ivy… oh gosh, I cannot believe how much they made me care for these two with just this short animation. I already loved Ivy, but man… I am amazed by their ability to use these short stories as a chance to give crumbs of certain informations and to intrigue the audience. Now I’m sitting here saying “more, more, more! More please!”. Thank you for this video; as always, the editing is top-notch and your love & excitement for the series is very contagious.

Viktor was Austro-Hungarian (of Slovak descent) but came over to the U.S. before the war and fought in France for the U.S. I'm aware of some playing of chess in the trenches.

I think Mordecai's gun is actually an old classic American sidearm - the Colt Model 1911. Thousands were produced tor the US Army in WW1 as a 'sidearm', and they were in common use by bootleggers during Prohibition. Love Lackadaisy's attention to details like that!!
@sirboomsalot49026 ай бұрын
All the guns used in Lackadaisy are real and correct for the time period, which is cool. The creators are genuine history buffs; in the notes for one of the comic pages they went into the research they did to make sure the *napkins* were correct. The only big anachronism I’ve spied is the Ford Model A they use in the main series, but that’s an understandable mistake because technically the first model year is 1927; they just didn’t deliver any until December of that year. My head canon is that it’s a pre-production version Atlas got through his connections.

If you listen really closely as Ruby's dialogue fades into the background, you can hear him transition to saying "meow meow" in mid conversation

I saw a comment from an expert in chess who could tell by the positioning of the pieces that Victor was going to win. So Mordecai thought of a way to get Victor to forfeit the game to save himself the embarrassment of losing to Victor. Also, WWI soldiers became excellent chess players because of all of the time they had on their hands to practice. So learning in the trenches was the best school for chess at this time.

Those shorts were amazing, I can't wait for more. I'm a gigantic fan of the webcomic and how it reveals the lore slowly and organically. I really hope the animated series lives up to it.

Loveee this reaction! Great to see another big fan of Lackadaisy, such entertaining editing too! You missed out something quite interesting in Ingenue I noticed, in 6:40 in your video (not sure what time in the og video), in the background whilst Ivy looks at the bullet ridden door you can hear her father say “nobody was hurt in this transaction, cuz we dealt with a bunch of ‘nobodies’”. Adds another layer of darkness to it all.. 🧐

oh man when you said you wanted to see mordecai and viktor together more… all im thinking is “well… about that!” BUT ANYWAYS lovely reaction as always, if you want to see more the cast actually did official dubbing on some of the mini comics that are available to watch on the lackadaisy channel!! it gives you more snapshots of what happened before atlas’ passing, especially how mordecai and viktor worked together as partners in crime

In the trenches of the First World War, the soldiers were bored. In two assaults to get their faces torpedoed, the cannon fodder remained in the trenches waiting for the mail, writing thoughtful letters to get past the censors and waiting for news from their families, being shocked by the horrors of the first industrial war, dying of the Spanish plague that no one talked about... and being bored. When I was 10, my teacher brought to class an artillery shell that had been sculpted. Lots of objects were built and sculpted to pass the time. So the infantrymen played a lot of the board games they had, all social classes combined. Viktor has a Russian accent (at least that's what it seems to me, I suck at identifying accents) and is clearly old enough to have been in the war since 1914 because mobilization. So it's not crazy to believe that Viktor learned to play chess in the trenches and it's relatively safe to assume that he's not the only one in this case.
