I had the same thing happen with 4 kittens. I came home and they were all in the tree, but they were small enough that it didn't take the tree down. My two cats now aren't too interested as long as I don't have low hanging ornaments.

My cat is awesome! The wife spent hours decorating our tree. The cat took a look around it, sniffed it a few times and then just laid down under it! That's all he does!

Our tree is for everyone to enjoy including them. They are so happy when the tree comes into the house, they are sniffing it for hours. I'm arranging my bulbs in the way that cheap and plastic ones are on the lower part of the tree and all of the glass and precious old ones are on the upper part. That way they are allowed to play with ornaments, they are allowed to climb if they are not in a "wild" state 😂, and they know the rules. Accidents still happen a few times, tree fall down at least once, but we are all happy 😂. It's a household with 10 cats, very active cats 😊

My Edward died 2 1/2 years ago at 18 1/2, shelter pet. Was 2 when we adopted him in February 2006. Had wing chairs on both sides of tree. Concerned Edward would attack tree the first year. He got on his blanket in the wing chair, curled up and snoozed while the lovely tree was lit. He was grateful to be in a warm & loving home, fed & loved. Miss him but I have 3 more. 2 oldie moldies & a 6 year old. Such a joy.

even 60 years ago we knew to put the tree in a corner and wire from the trunk to each side wall for 'stability' and only unbreakable for the first 2 feet of bottom branches and close the hooks on everything.... always had cats and Shepard's, never a downed tree or broken ornaments.

My tree is in my bedroom closet right now. I adopted two cats and this is their first Xmas. Well, one keeps biting the lights. Not the cord, the bulbs. Luckily they were unplugged when I heard the gentle crunch. The cat is ok but I don’t know….maybe a lightless tree this year.😢

One of my kitties was doing it in the beginning with her first tree. We did keep the lights but it was plugged in only when we could supervise. Also we put only those tiny rice lights with not much glass on them. Kitty was corrected every time, we also gave her toys instead, and soon she didn't do it anymore.

Thank the Lord I have French doors to my living room!! My 2, 10 month old boys and their once pregnant mom cat, who I rescued in Florida last January, will have a hay day with my tree! So, shut the doors!! (Brought them all home to Canada!) They're the best!

Yep so very true cats do rule the Christmas tree and there the star on that tree so they just lie there where it normally goes gets too heavy then it's timber over goes the tree cat takes off young child gets blame... Til puss comes out and says ok it's me and back in the tree the cat goes agn beautiful funny etc makes Christmas a great funny year so don't forget too get the puss too highlight your Christmas tree 😂❤

When we were kids my mum used to hang chocolate decorations on the xmas tree then blamed us for eating them when she found the empty foils. Anyway it turns out that it was our black cat Dotty who was the culprit. We caught her jumping up the tree and knocking the chocolates off one day. How she never became ill eating chocolate is a mystery!😂

She was lucky, like some of those people who smoked since childhood and lived till the nineties 😅. Chocolate is very toxic, it could be that ornaments were made with more of sugar and fats and less of chocolate. Like those super cheap chocolates, I remember a few yucky tasted Santa clause figures.

Last time I had a tree I had to UNdecorate the bottom third. Had to HUNT for ornaments between chair/couch cushions, under furniture due to my 2 yr. old adoptee. Had one cat that just loved to sprawl out under the tree and gaze at the lights, but couldn't put any gifts underneath as she would smash the boxes and bags.

I usually put my Christmas tree up and wait at least two weeks before I start decorating it just so my cats can acclimate to it being there. They’ll still mess with it, but not as much as when they first saw it.

i think people don't consider the fact that 1.. everything is for the cat. we that have them know that. 2.. once a year we put up a tree.. for the cat.. decorate with baubles that cats love.. for the cat. think like a cat for a moment. they are thrilled that we have done this, once again, just for them. 3.. of course they have to show their appreciation and enjoy the tree as much as possible. there's plenty of ways to secure the tree so it doesn't fall over. i love watching mine play in the tree. they love it so much and they are so happy when it gets put up. i run heavy wire from the trunk to the wall so it won't fall over and i have floofy tree skirt under it so things don't get broken. one of my favorite things abut Christmas is watching my cats play on just lay under the tree because they know there is no present that can compare with them.

My cat's would have never done this to my Christmas tree. All they do is chew on the branches or lay in it on the bottom of the tree and don't even knock the tree over or any of the ordiments off, and if they do, it'd just land on a random tree branch that'd just be hung back up onto the tree and one of the cat's would've been then scare shooed outta the tree afterwards.
