theres also the fact that cats like people who dont like cats... not saying it means anything but... its not that they actually like people that dont like cats its that people who dont like cats generally portray traits that cats like, someone who likes cats for example could possibly constantly stare at the cat which cats absolutely hate, meanwhile someone who doesnt like cats is more likely to look somewhere else, someone who likes cats might try to get the cats attention -once again- cats really dislike that, someone who doesnt like cats doesnt try to get their attention, someone who likes cats might try to get into the cats personal space for petting etc, meanwhile someone who doesnt like cats is morelikely to not only stay out of the cats personal space but actually retreat when the cat comes closer, so cats liking people who dont like cats is usually correlation not causation

My mom is diabetic. One of our cats freaked out and would not let her out of his sight. He never yowls, but that day he was and wouldn’t stop. He was pawing, nipping, and head butting her. She checked her sugar and in the span of about 40ish minutes she went from a good sugar (about 120 something which was good for her) down to 56. That was terrifying.

You don't realise exactly how broken cats are until you've owned one. Even our domesticated felines are far more tuned for hunting than you think. Even the friendliest of them. I had two growing up, sisters from the same litter that had a bad start in life. Didn't get on much with each other so they kept their distance and it wasn't uncommon for short spats to occur out of the blue when one took offence. But they did have an incident which I remember clear as day because it was strangely similar to seeing big cats hunt. So, knowing neither of these cats really get along they also dislike strangers and it wasn't unheard of for one of them to attack people or animals that strayed on the property. No real damage done but their turf kinda thing. One day out of the blue I hear some yowling and what sounded like a dog. Looked out the window to see a random rather large german shepherd had chased one of the cats onto the wall and was debating jumping to bite her. What the dog didn't see was the OTHER cat had circled around behind him and came out of nowhere to attack him from behind... you know like lions do. Less than a second after the dog looked away the one on the wall didn't run away. In fact she took offence to this dog and latched onto his head and was going for the eyes and nose with everything. Lasted all of a couple of seconds and the dog retreated with both cats on its' heels. While I know it was capable of doing damage it was at a disadvantage. A few weeks later I found the more aggressive of my two cats (the one that jumped on the dogs head) sitting in the path between the street and the back of my house staring down the same dog with a low growl. I laughed my head off since this went on for 5 minutes, the dog tried his luck by putting a paw on the path and the cat decided that was enough. Dog left so quick and never came back. .... and cats are naturally built with these kinds of behaviours..... we keep these little monsters as pets!

Our cat usually wakes up the wife to feed him every morning. Lately I haven't been sleeping very well so I've been sitting in the corner of the room on the computer. In an effort to get some positive result from this, I've been stopping the cat when he tries to wake my wife and feeding him myself. So now he's got the message that, if I'm awake, he should approach me first. But if I'm busy (such as in the middle of typing a comment on youtube) I'll try to ignore him. But then he'll hop up onto the bedside cabinet and hold his paw close to my wife's face and meow, all the while looking directly at me. I'm sure his meow translates to "feed me NOW! or she gets it"

Agreed! We have a rescue called Teddy, because he's so benign - has the baby face down pat, despite being a common tabby - that even people not so fond of cats who come up agree he's a very sweet looking boy. Anyway, during Covid we had our gardens down our streets all swarmed with rats because the streets and alleys were so quiet, even for country standards. None of our other cats ever bothered with the rats, to the point the rats learned they'd be ignored. Enter Teddy years after the pandemic. Lady I live with was out doing gardening, said he just turned up, dropped a dead rat in the garden, left, came back a little while later with another, rinse and repeat. He ended up piling five bodies that day.

Mate, rats aren't an issue by being killed by cats. In fact, it's doing them and all others a favour - if the cats don't cull the rats, idiots with poison kill off more animals in the attempt to remove the rats than the cats do, because other animals - crows, owls, magpies - will all eat or feed the poisoned rats to their babies. Cats are also known to psychologically relieve people who are under constant stress and uneasiness like people with mental illnesses such as Autism, ADHD, various other medical conditions.
@bahnsidhes
@bahnsidhes Жыл бұрын
Autism and ADHD are not a mental illness. They are considered a sensory process disorder. And although there is overlap with each other, they are different. The difference between them and say PTSD, is their brains naturally process this way. PTSD is neuropathways being changed through trauma. Some mental illness is caused by brain chemical imbalance and some are caused by abuse/neglect while others are genetic. ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder, which encompasses both ADHD and Autism as well as others) can have co-morbidities with mental illnesses, but those mental illnesses still have distinct causes.... ie abuse/neglect, brain chemical imbalance, genetics.... But they aren't the mental illness. This is just for information purposes. Not to start an argument. I have ADHD, Autism and PTSD. And with those three, there is some overlap in symptoms/diagnostics.

@@bahnsidhes Not quite. Sensory Processing Disorder is often a part of both, but is specifically refers to, well, your brain not processing the input from your senses the way Neurotypicals do, leading to things such as struggling to understand people, especially in loud places, having extreme likes or dislikes of various foods and textures in general as well as certain sensory experiences being downright painful. ASD is just the "long form"/Diagnostic name for autism. ADHD often overlaps with Autism (to the point where there's some argument about weather both may be closely related), but it's not the same and ASD does not encompass it. Both are Neurodevelopmental disorders, which basically means your brain developed to function different than that of Neurotypicals. (People who are not Neurotypical are also sometimes called Neurodivergent, but this also includes mental illnesses. Neurodiversity is a general term referring tot he fact that there's a fair bit of variation in human brains.) (The Autism and PTSd thing is somewhat complicated by today's diagnostic criteria for Autism specifically being based around how young, traumatized kids that are socialized as boys tend to act (to the point where non-traumatized autistic kids may not get a diagnosis) with knowledge outside that still being quite rare and often found within the community itself rather than something "professionals" know. We don't fully know the difference between Autism and Trauma as expressed commonly by Autistic people.)
@bahnsidhes
@bahnsidhes Жыл бұрын
@@teaartist6455 A large part of what you said is what I meant. But you expressed it much better. I didn't realize that ADHD wasn't part of ASD, I'd read somewhere that it was. But when looking just now... it's not. So thank you for that. As for the trauma info, I was diagnosed with c-PTSD first, while in my twenties. The Autism diagnosis went undiagnosed for years because I'm female and we can be incredibly good at "masking". It took my autistic son being born for me to start questioning. And at 54 yrs. I was officially diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. My neurologist told me that because their are some Autism symptoms that are similar to PTSD, Autistic women who have suffered trauma will sometimes fall through the cracks for a diagnosis. Especially 30 years ago, when females were rarely diagnosed with Autism. It was even more rare to diagnose and adult female. So that's what I was alluding too. The words/explanation are in my brain and fully formed but translating what I'm thinking into a text version can sometimes cause confusion. It looks perfectly clear to me, but no one else, because they don't have my brain. lol Sorry.

@@bahnsidhes There are some schools of thought that think ASD ans ADHD should be grouped together more closely, it's just kind of one of these specific theories/hypotheses where we don't know how much truth (if any) there is to it. I get the while "words refuse to come out right", it's okay. I've taken a pretty long time to figure out how to concisely word Autism-related things (and still can't do it for everything/all subjects).

12:58 i heard about a housecat that was the pet of a lighthouse keeper on a remote island, the cat brought a dead bird home one day; the owner had never seen a bird that looked like it before, so he sent it to the mainland for scientists to check for themselves; by the time they got back and said it was a brand-new species, the cat had killed every individual on the island; only recorded instance of a single individual rendering an entire species extinct

that is not the whole story though, the cat is not what ended that entire species of bird, the few birds that one cat could have killed would have never ended a species, the problem was that humans brought rats to the island and with only one singular predator on the entire island, the rats started breeding rapidly and among the things that rats really love to eat are bird eggs. there are even islands were cats had been suspected of wiping out native bird populations, only for those populations to start dying even faster once the cats had been exterminated, because they removed the only thing keeping the rats in check. essentially once you have rats in an ecosystem, cats become a necessary evil.

The more important aspect of the Egyptian thing probably wasn't toxoplasma gondii. When Egyptians started building giant grain storage areas as their civilization grew, so did the rodents. Cats looked at their setup and saw that people were building them rodent buffets and moved in. Keeping food free from rodents could be literally life-saving at that point in history so cats must have seemed like a miracle. Romans invaded Egypt, incidentally helped by tactical deployment of cats, and quickly saw their value. While plenty of domestic cat migration was just cats deciding to live somewhere else, the Romans definitely deliberately exploited them to protect grain. Which helped spread cats across the Roman empire. Same thing happened with cats and ships. Running out of food on a long ocean going journey could be deadly so a ship's cat would not just be useful in weather predicting but in killing the rats. You mostly had cats pick your ship and the most successful ship cats were often polydactyly, or had extra toes. That meant more polydactyly cats arrived in New England to start families with better odds at having polydactyly babies. There's still an overabundance of polydactyly cats in the earliest colonized areas of North America as a result. These days people don't normal go looking for life saving cats (though there are charities that match feral cats with farms or neighborhoods with rat problems) and yet people still are devoted to them so still possible.

He loved snuggling with me during the pregnancy. But the first time he met my child, we panicked a little. Baby was asleep in the car seat and it looked like kitty was ready to pounce. I was too far away to get to them, and so was dad. Baby grunted, cat leaps into the air, about 3 feet, legs moving like he's running, comes down and splats. He got up, ran past dad, tried to turn into a different room, but slid and ran into a table. Jumped up and finally caught a claw in the carpet and ran down the hall, whacking his back legs into a door. Finally got himself under mom and dad's bed. He was a sweet boy, but he wanted nothing to do with baby for months.

100% find men more attractive if they like cats. Having an animal in general is a bonus bc it tells me that you're responsible enough to take care of something that depends on you. But cats are aloof and do what they want when it pleases them so to have a good relationship you need patience and respect with them. So men who like or get along with cats, in my opinion, tend to be more emotionally intelligent and patient when compared to men with no animals or men who've never spent time with cats (edit for spelling mistake)

This was a routine for 10 yrs before he died. I didn't know how I was going to tell Val. When I got home, she was sitting in his chair. I sat down, she came over and laid on my chest. I swear she knew the difference and that maybe Steve stopped by to tell her on his way to the next life. I have 6 cats of various ages that were the kittens of Mike or Val. Some look like Bengals, they all act like Bengals. There is a small feral colony on my land (78 acres) that I feed and they too are part Bengals.

I have had cats (and dogs occasionally)all of my life! And I usually get along with all of the feral cats that I come across at work.I have had several feral cats bring me dead birds to feed me in return for the food that I brought them! There was even one feral cat that I knew from birth that was a better back up than most of my fellow Officers! Cats are well known for protecting their loved ones against any sized attacker,be it a mugger,dog,snake,or even a fully grown alligator (there is a well known video of it on You Tube)!😹

I told her when our cat climb on me and lay on my stomach on a specific place (I show her where). She say we go now in the investigations room and she looked in my stomach with camera. She found the entry of my stomach and esophagus burn with suspension of cancer. I was put on a treatment cancer and put in sick leave for months. Yeah, I had a at named Milo for 15 years. He was about... 8 or 9 years old when a friend & I decided t rent a flat together, she had a Doberman, I had 3 cats, Spot, Fred & Milo. Milo looked out for Spot & Fred b/c they did not have front claws. (was before I knew/understood what that meant) SA yar later, when Milo came along, NO NO to declawing. He had that full sized Doberman completely cowed. It literally 'tip-toed around him, hugging the wall much as possible. If the Dobie showed the slightest interest in Spot or Fred. Milo would just growl a little w/o moving a whisker & the Doberman's entire posture changed from curious to cowed.

Currently have six cats and have had others in the past. They're menaces but I love them so much. And while cats are seemingly impervious (our ginger literally survived about five days of little to no eating (he's now nicknamed the zombie cat)), it should be noted that some do have mild weaknesses. One of my kitty cats is a formal feral and she has really really bad food insecurity. The moment the food bowl is empty, she practically loses her mind unless she's asleep.

I had a cat that was the top animal in the couple blocks around our home as a kid. Seen her go on the offensive against huskies and the St. Bernard that lives nearby, possums, raccoons, other cats, even occasionally people that pissed her off. One of my friends picked her up and cradled her like a baby. He got one warning hiss, and two seconds later her claws went straight for his throat. Even with his reaction, he got a nice scratch just below his adams apple. It’s flat out impressive what cats are capable of.

I was walking up Beegum gorge road, from Platina in the far Southwestern tip of Shasta County California in 1983. It is a 2 mile hike one way A little after halfway up a young Mountain Lion ran across the road, right to left, 10 feet in front of me. The cat had a ~ 130 pound buck by the brisket, running up the steep hill. (More than a 45° slope) Not one of those deer's hooves touched the ground. None of the buck's antlers were touching the ground either. The cat had it jacked up, completely off the ground by drawing it's lower jaw back. It was gone in 3 seconds. An animal carried a 130 lb animal up a hill at a dead run. Yes. They are that strong. I was just thankful it had it's dinner, and wasn't interested in me. Whew.

I think that the problem is that people tend to want to treat cats the way they do their dogs, but they really don't work like that. Think of a cat as a small furry human. They are very independent and rarely give their love or trust instantly and freely. Like humans, you have to earn a cat's love and trust and once you have it, kitty will do just about anything for you. They're very very affectionate to the humans they love. BUT do something to break that trust, and it will take much longer to earn it back...just like with humans. You can't just rub the belly when you see it like you do a dog. The way that cats fight is by raking each other's bellies so reaching for the belly is a somewhat aggressive move and you'll get teeth and claws for it. Also, don't start off a kitten by playing with it with your hands. Doing that teaches the kitten that YOU are a toy and it will grow up still trying to play with your hands, feet and other body parts. It's not being mean, it's just that it was taught when it was young that this is acceptable behavior. So many cats end up in shelters because people did this with their kittens and the kitten grew up into a playful cat that is biting and clawing while it plays because that's what it was taught to do. Kitty wants to play? Get a teaser toy and play, or a stuffed animal if it's more wrestling the cat wants, but NOT with your hands, arms, feet or anything else attached to your body. If kitty gets too excited with the toy and pounces on you, freeze and exclaim (not in anger but a loud OUCH will do) so kitty knows it hurt you. That's how kittens teach each other not to go too far when playing and often we get kittens before they have fully learned that lesson from their litter mates. Most cats can even be walked on a leash and harness if you start them when they are kittens. Many are more trainable, too, than people think, but you have to use purely food motivation and you can't yell at them. Some are more trainable than others, of course, but that's the same with dogs too. I personally have found Maine Coon's the be the best at being trained and walked on a leash than most other breeds. :)

It's true: Felis Domesticus is spoiled in this regard. Working with Cougars, I have had more luck getting a harness and leash on them, than I have on any of their smaller cousins. No, she wasn't tame. She had been injured and brought in for treatment, and realized we were there to help. And no, she wasn't the only one. I'd like to know, though, why I had a dream of walking a Cougar through Seattle on a leash, while I wore a vest. A vest that said, "Service Animal."

Tell all that to my tabby lol. She's a sucker for attention and loves belly rubs. She also warms up to strangers real quick. Most of the time you can just pick her up from whatever she's doing and she's instantly in cuddle mode. Found out at my last really terrible apartment she's weird about mice too. I mean, my other cat is weird about them, in that she doesn't want them anywhere near her, but my tabby... She has a habit of carrying her toy mice around while meowing and gathering them in places, so I guess when mice got in after the complex removed the grating on the dryer vent while I had no dryer, she thought of them as new moving toys or something. She was mostly very careful not to kill them, just carried them around by the back of the neck like kittens. She actually did kill one, dropping it off a counter and landing on its back, and she was super sad for a few hours. Had to get coax her into dropping the rest into an Amazon box so I could run and toss them into the dumpster. This all happened over the course of like two nights before I figured out where they were getting in and made a makeshift cover for the inside opening of the vent.

My husband wasn't a cat person and he was working away. I took my son to a market and this little kitten was for sale and he looked at me and said we have to it mum. We took him home and waited. Guess who was the favourite. Our cat was called wild thing, used to run around our furniture. One day he saw my husband pee in the toilet. Next day he was crouched above the loo looking at me as if to say, you can get rid of the litter box now. He was sleeping next to me when my alarm went off and I snoozed it. The second time it went off, he jumped on the dresser and started tapping the alarm to stop it because I did disturb his sleep. If we closed the bedroom door, he would sit there and knock by head banging it till we let him in. One night he got out and came back and dropped a dead bird on my chest, quite proudly I must say. he was feeding us for a change. I didn't react how he thought I would. I never got a bird again. I failed as a human. If I got sad, somehow he curled himself up underneath my clothes while I wasn't looking but would swat me if I argued with my husband. RIP Wild Thing, the most amazing cat ever.

The most hilarious thing I’ve heard is always proven true when I hear stuff like this “Cat People are just Dogs and Dog People are Cats” Dog People enjoy dogs because of the immediate and unconditional love they give you. You don’t have to do anything other than exist and that dog will shower you with affection. Meanwhile Cat People love Cats because they act the same way Dog Lovers act, they simply exist, don’t feel the need to ask for love because they know you’re going to give it to them. You’re a Dog. Your cat doesn’t make overly affectionate attempts at anything and you shower them with love regardless.

I will blow your mind even farther, several years ago we had a cat who managed to get between our subfloor and floor in our old house, crushing the neck of his femur, breaking the femur and parts of his hip and tearing the spine away from his pelvis...he lived. A long surgery where they removed the neck of his femur completely and left it unattached from the pelvis, reattached the pelvis to the spine, lots of money and a some recovery time and the cat was just like new. No walking or other issues at all. Apparently the cat will grow muscle around that area to create a false femur neck and attach it to the hip and you couldn't tell he'd had any issues. He grew a false bone. He lived happily 6 years after it, not even a limp.

Poor hygiene after cleaning their litter box or after working in the garden (it can be in the soil) are obvious risk factors for infection, but the main source of infection from this parasite is actually from eating raw/undercooked meat. Cats are pretty hygienic animals themselves and don't spread the parasite outside of their litter. Not all cats are infected either, up to 40% of cats are believed to have been infected at some point, but those that are will only produce infected feces 1% of the time - hence why cats themselves are not the primary source of the parasite.

It was the only time he climbed up and laid right up against us or put his chest across our lap. He would purr on the in & out breath really deep & I swear he was trying to offer healing comfort. He would not leave the ill person until he was sure they were well again. Don't let non-cat people fool you into thinking they're aloof and don't form attached bonds with their humans. My 6 pound siamese x manx protected my household from a guy that kicked the door in. He actually ran from her and noped out. Cats won't hang around if a person is abusive or mean, they just up stakes and move on first time the door is left open and the nice neighbor down the street offers kibble. So a man who cats like hasn't been smacking them around in private no matter what he pretends in public.

What I love about cat lovers (including men) are that cats are animals that require you to understand *consent* . If a cat doesn't want to be petted, they will lash out. You just have to take no for an answer and be okay with that. If a cat is okay with you touching their back, but not their tummy - that's that. Someone once said, "Dogs teach us about loving unconditionally, but cats teach us that sometimes we need to love someone the way *they* need to be loved - and not how we want to love them".

You know it's bad when you see your cat murdering a bird and you are like "Aww that's so cute, you eat that fucker, good kitty, kitty"

Been a cat guy since very early childhood. Unfortunately, at some point, I lost the ability to have a cat. But I do love them. They are my fav animal! Although, it's fair to notice that every single animal, no matter the species, has it's own personality and yes, there are douchebags and assholes in every species. Once, I drove a small distance and saw a roadkill fox lying on the edge of the asphalt. In my return, I saw another fox standing next to it and crying with voice. Yes! Even foxes! Crying with voice! My heart broke that day!

Here's another fun fact to add to the mix, too: It's currently believed cats can "mirror" ailments of their owners, as well. Such as a cold/sniffles, depression, anxiety, food aversion and so on. Some believe it to be a form of comradery... a "We're in this together" trait, while others believe it's something else unique to cats. I've experienced it happening, though, in more ways than YT has space to comment XD But the most prevalent mirroring I've experienced is depression and anxiety. Talk about a motivator to get better... nothing like double the medical bills lol

Omg, my mom always said the cats knew when a storm was coming. They’d get all hyper and race thru the house. Turns out she was right!

There was a story a few years ago about a cat that lived in a nursing home. Of course it's job was to comfort the residents, but it started staying with certain patients who would die the next day. It knew their time was over and it was comforting them in their last hours on earth. The cat did this with at least 25 people. Cats also seem to be more tuned in to spirits. I have a video of my cat, just after my sister in law died. She absolutely loved cats and rescued them all the time. My cat was sitting on the carpet and seemed to watch something go over her head. After that a light swept across the carpet. I'm sure she was saying Hi to my kitty. She told me once that cat could be a show cat.

Personally, how a person is with animals definitely plays into my attraction level & I trust my cat's intuition about people even more than my own. Every time Sumi has shown active dislike of a person, they turned out to be horrible dumpster fire people. But I always figure that if an animal trusts you, then you're more likely to be a decent human. ^-^

That with the teleporting made me laugh, yet explains so much😂 Always used to wonder how my cat would just appear from nowhere and pounce whenever even the tiniest part of my foot would peek out from under the covers🤨😂

As a human whos got a 99% chance of having a big old dose of Toxoplasma gondii (owned over 15 cats in the last 30 years)... im ok with it. Must admit my personal feelings and interest in cats DID, get noticeably stronger after we rescued and tamed 5 stray kittens, although I attribute that to the emotional journey of that experience and living with them all for 15+ years... but who knows, maybe i got brain jacked, not complaining.

Cats are very loyal to their people. And there are many stories and videos of cats litteraly saving their person. Like a little tabby cat who jumped on a dog that was trying to kill and drag a child away. She also chased the dog off. An many others.

Unlike dogs that have undergone selective breeding for centuries, cats are nearly genetically identical to their ancient ancestors. They share 95% DNA with tigers, so it’s almost as if we have little tigers living in our homes. They’re total bad asses, and yes, men with cats are far more attractive than other pet owners, imo.

My cat loves to chitter and chirp at the birds outside of our bedroom window. After a while, we noticed holes in the screen, assuming he'd made them until one day we saw the little birds actually trying to get into the room, pecking at the screen! He's that good at imitating their chatter.

I have always been afraid to own a cat, but my husband, before he was my husband, liked cats, so I decided to give it a try. Now I love them so much! And I feel that I missed out on so much. They are so adorable and sweet and independent. They can jump up and smack mosquitoes with both of their paws. They kill rodents and insects. They are so amazing and so smart. I love them now.
