My cat warned me there was a man coming in the window, by jumping on me really hard and waking me up. Years later, she "pointed" to the wall one night, and when I peeked out the window, there was a man right where she was pointing! She lived 17 years, she was an important part of my life.

I am glad you had your guardian cat. This happened to me, too. My roommate's cat woke her up because a man was trying to get into my window. We called the cops, who found and arrested him. Turned out he had just raped another woman in our apartment complex. That's why the cops were nearby and able to apprehend him.

One time my cat wouldn't come inside. Eventually I went to see what was going on. She led me to an outside door on the bottom of the apartment building and sat by it. I heard some meowing, but my cat's mouth wasn't moving. I realized a cat was trapped in there. I reported it to the property manager. A cat had been locked in there for over a day. Funny thing was, it was my cat's nemesis, but she saved him anyway.

I don't think cats (or most animals) think the way humans do. They don't really "hate" or wish their "enemies" to be hurt. They will hurt each other, but it is over fights about territory or other scarce resources, or maybe to defend its family/group members. Unless it is a predator hunting prey, or the animal has been mistreated, or has been taught to pursue/attack intruders, the vast majority of animals will attack or chase an intruder or threat out of it's territory, then relinquish the chase. It isn't because they don't believe they can prevail. It is because they achieved their objective, and they don't see a need to "punish" for the invasion. Also, as my son used to remind me when he was younger, Batman would be very sad without the Joker and the Joker would have no purpose without Batman. Sometimes, the existence of a constant nemesis to fight is important. It creates a purpose and keeps you sharp.

susancregg472 does have a wise son. Humans are much more likely than cats to take justice too far by tricking oneself into thinking we are nipping bad behavior in the bud. However, despite being very definitely a cat person, there have been times when I felt one of my feline friends did have their revenge on me. For example, I am the proud parent of Fe'lisa and Nick. When I left for college, both of them held it against me for years later. HOwever, he finally forgave me and slept with me once again. Whereas she never fully fargave me for leaving her home for years.

A stray cat saved my life. I had slow unknown internal bleeding and was to death. I was in bed in the middle of the day. My mom thought even though I was really pale, I was just napping. She checked me again a few minutes later and there was an unknown grey DECLAWED tabby "making bisquets" on my chest. The cat had ripped a hole in the window screen to get in. That got my mom's attention. She found she couldn't wake me. She got me to the emergency room and I had emergency blood transfusion and surgery. I kept Jimmy Sue another 15 years, til the end of his life. I wouldn't be here without him. 💖

I've noticed that a cat will get it's bluff in on a dog, by putting on a show of force and not backing down. A larger dog could easily kill a cat, but the cat holds it's ground and fools the dog into thinking the cat is dangerous, which it really isn't, at least not to a large dog.

Back in Dec. 1997 I was in Australia, On xmas day we called my parents to say "Merry Christmas", but we heard the bad news about one of our uncles who had past away - the day before - on Xmas eve in Germany. So I sat down in a huge armchair at my cousins house and my tears started dropping without me making any noise. I was just sitting quietly and thinking of my wonderful uncle who iI would never see again. And at my surprise the female cat jumped on my legs, rested her front legs on my chest and wiped the tears from my cheek with one paw. I was so stunned that I didn't dare move. My son is autistic. When he was younger he used to have some pretty scary meltdowns - sometimes even violent ones (luckily, with a lot of therapy and hard work, he is now almost 11 and has learned better control, so his meltdowns are shorter, far less frequent and almost never violent). Since before he was born, we have always had cats in our house. He learned to relate to them emotionally before he ever really learned to relate to people (outside of us and a few other adults). So, after he spent a long time proving to us that he could be consistently gentle with cats (our existing cats were old enough that they knew when to steer clear and when they could trust him) and assist in daily care, we got him his own young cat (4 months old) and used some specific techniques we had read about to try to help them form a close bond. It absolutely worked far better than we expected. Emotionally and socially they seemed to be at about the same stage of development. They enjoyed the same types of games, and before long they were playing "tag", hide and seek, popping bubbles, playing with hot wheels and remote control cars (my son controlled it while the cat chased it), and making up their own games together. They slept every night completely curled up together (and still do), and my son would "read" the cat his books, while the cat would actually look at the pages and "help" turn the pages. I think the cat actually considers my son as a litter mate or something similar. Anyway, back to the meltdown. As I said, these meltdowns, until just a year or two ago were quite scary, even if you were accustomed to them. So scary that my husband and I decided to take a course in what is known as "low contact restraint", learning to use our bodies to bring our son to a safe spot and prevent him from hurting himself as we calmed him, while guarding ourselves from any major injuries. These meltdowns included screaming, crying, flopping and all sorts of flailing about. Yet this little cat, from the very first time he saw one, would run right to my son, dodge my son's flailing, and attempt to make his way to my son's face so he could rub against it and give headbutts and kisses. This was a tiny cat. He is now 5 years old and full grown and weighs just over 6 lbs, so at the time he was probably 4-5 lbs, and yet he would not hesitate for a single second to try to reach my son and comfort him. There were even a few times that he got caught in the flailing (accidently) and was pushed away, once or twice in a pretty rough manner. Nonetheless he ALWAYS immediately returned. At times we even tried to hold the cat back, and this tiny creature who is one of the most gentle animals I have ever encountered would wiggle and even scratch his way free to return to my son. My son often would initially resist, but after the cat would keep coming back over and over, it was like my son couldn't ignore it any longer, and would just hold it and pet it or even start laughing at it. It was amazing. To this day, the cat can be anywhere in the house (he is an indoor only cat), and if he hears my son start to escalate or cry, no matter what the cat is doing-even if he is fast asleep- he will immediately race to my son's side to make sure that my son is okay. If my son is just starting to escalate, he will jump onto my son's lap and give him a "cat hug" and nibble at my son's chin until my son calms down and refocuses on the cat. If my son is already melting down, the car races in to try to kiss my son's face and cuddle against his body. Understand that my son is now almost 5 feet tall and weighs about 65 -70 lbs. Many grown adults would be a little hesitant to get close. But all this 6lb cat sees is that his friend is in trouble and he never hesitates for a moment to consider his own safety. He simply trusts that his friend won't hurt him, and that, while the cat may not be able to comprehend the source of the pain, he is determined to help his friend feel better. The love of a loyal pet is just such an amazing kind of love. And there is something so extremely special about a cat's love/loyalty. While cats are very social creatures, most would be fine if they kept to themselves. When they make the voluntary choice to adopt you as part of their "family", you know that you have a friend for life.

You will never know how protective your cat is until the opportunity presents itself. Even the apparently timid and laid back ones. We had a cat who passed away recently with liver disease who was so laid back, friendly and docile that we could never even imagine him chasing a far more bigger and aggressive dog, until it happened. It was like someone flipped a switch and he turned into a freaking maniac ninja visciously attacking and chasing a dog that seconds earlier had been barking and growling aggressively and was now yelping and fleeing away in fear. He earned my respect that day and I'll always miss him.

I had a bilateral total knee replacement. When I came home, I was relegated to the bedroom until I could get around. My husband thought it best our two dogs and three cats be kept out so as not to step on my legs and hurt me so he kept the door closed. This went on for a day with him always having to shoo away our big Tom cat, Mr. Tibbs. Mr. Tibbs was a wonderful, loving cat and very attached to me. The second day my husband was bringing me in some soup on a tray and my big boy, who'd been rebuffed several times and had had enough, launched himself ten feet, jumping over my husband landing square on my bed without hurting me. Then this huge 20 lb Tom cat snuggled next to my leg trying to look invisible. I told my hubby he deserved to be with me and to leave him alone. That boy stayed with me through all the pain and tears of rehab, comforting me, only leaving to use the litter box. My husband brought his food and water into the room so he would eat and drink or else he wouldn't have. He stayed with me like that until I could walk again. Sometimes, he was my only comfort during a difficult and painful time. I've had some amazing cats, but Mr. Tibbs beats them all. I still miss him. Once about a year after he passed I was falling asleep and I felt what seemed like him jumping on the bed and laying down next to me (something he had often done). He was a big cat so when he jumped on the bed you felt it. I looked around, but no cat was there (my other two cats were girls and much lighter). I just knew it was Mr. Tibbs, still checking on me, looking out for me. God, I miss that good boy.

@@CynVee I had similar experiences. The first time as a child. I felt our old tom cat walking over me in the night after he passed away. I told nobody about it, because I was afraid of being laughed at. The next time I was an adult and married. Our cat had cancer and we had the vet let her go. In the next night I felt her by my side, making biscuits. In the morning my husband told me that he also felt her making buíscuits. If only I had that experience, it could have been a hallucination out of wish. But we both felt the same.

When my brother got his wisdom teeth out, our late cat, Kumo, made a point to never leave him alone. Started following him like a shadow after that. (Very fitting, considering he was a solid grey cat.) And when a mouse snuck in when he was sick, even though Kumo was elderly and suffering from kidney failure, he stayed by my brother's side and caught that mouse, making sure to crunch it really hard and growled at it as he held it. He only dropped it when he was really sure it was super dead. He was _not_ letting that thing touch his person. He also protected our other cats and acted as a loving mom to them. Even protected them from each other, leaping into the middle of a fight once between two of them. Would follow any new babies around and coo at them and make sure they were safe. He was such an amazing cat. I still miss him.

I'll never forget the day my family and I were having lunch, and we heard my 1-year-old brother crying outside. When my father checked, he saw the stray cat we occasionally fed blocking my brother from going upstairs. Our father called us to come see, and we were amazed by the cat's protective behavior. That’s when I realized how smart and protective cats can be. I often hear people say cats are cold-hearted and only care about food, but I know that’s not true. My friends cat started to sit on the back of any chair I was sitting on and began licking the back of my head it did this for three weeks until walking home one night I collapsed as I’d gone unconscious the hospital did a scan of my head and found a growth on my brain in exactly the area the cat had been licking. Once the growth had been 99.8 percent removed (fortunately it was benign) the cat stopped licking. One day waiting for a follow up scan I was talking about it to a nurse she said if the cat started to lick my head again not to go to my doctor or local hospital but to come straight back to them.

I’ve had both (currently no dogs atm,) and while the dogs have been more than protective just becuase they heard one of their humans be upset/scared sounding, my cat has the habit of keeping me awake when I have stomach bugs. One of the cats kept my mom awake when she had a kidney infection, until the pain got better that Misha wasn’t worried about her as much as he was. We (in 2021) took in a very young kitten who wandered under the tool shed steps and we thought we’d gotten her soon enough. But because we hadn’t, we now have our three boyos, who are the first cats we’ve had in the family who were born in a house and not with semi-feral mothers who adopt us. The boyos are three tough little guys who look like they belong in a high school theater group, XD And my girl, Lancer, follows me everywhere. She’s also the one who will help with rounding up the boyos if we have to all hide in the closet because there’s a tornado.

I remember an episode, over 40yrs ago, our family Moggi was sunning himself ontop the shed, when one of our two dogs began belting into the other dog. The protagonist was an absolute bully, so 'Socks' our Tabby cat, decided to stop the fight. Socks launched himself off the shed roof, onto the back of the aggressor, & rode him around the backyard, like a Bronco rider, claws embedded. The bully dog screamed & yelped running around the yard, in shock & pain, cat onboard, for several minutes, until the lesson was given. Socks then adeptly jumped off the aggressive dogs back, & casually comforted the other dog, & went back to sunbathing. I laughed so much, had tears rolling down my face, at the spectacle, Socks was a beautiful Tabby cat, very laid back, & King of the Castle, the aggressive dog, never, ever tried that again. I miss 'Socks', badass snuggle bug, makes me laugh everytime I think of that day. Pity Socks didn't work for the UN!!!

House cats’ reputation as protectors and loyal companions to humans are well known as far back as in ancient Egypt where they’re revered as mystical creatures. Mummified cats were found in archaeological excavations of tombs in Egypt which researchers think that ancient Egyptians believed that cats should accompany humans in their journey in the next life. They’re amazing pets.

Yes the semi-domesticated cats of those days were much bigger than the modern house cats. Most dogs, other medium sized animals, and unarmed people were no match for those pet cats either.

My cats are the “leave me alone” type and only pay attention to me when they want food. I’m still madly in love with them.😩😁

My orange tabby NEMO saved my life 2x in two weeks. He woke me up when a blanket sufficated me and I was shakking from 02 deprivation and a week later jumped on my legs when the stove was not shut off. He survived the Paradise CA fire in 2018 and helped human survivors recover.

Our cat lets my little nephew pet her. He's not rough with her, but she tolerates a 2 year old's strokes. She steers him away from danger when he's outside, and when my sister and nephew go for a walk, while the cat is too old to follow, she sits patiently at the front gate for them to return. Cats are also incredibly courageous.

In a world that seems it has gone increasingly mad for this new millenium, the repeated proofs of these cats' loyalty, devotion and perceptive concern is a reminder, that almost brings me to tears, that there is still beauty in this world and this age.

I agree 💯. Humans are good today but change tomorrow. Once you feed cats or dogs, they will always be with you.

yes, they show there emotions clearly. if they are happy, they lick you, they are angry, they bite you. humans lie, hard to know who to trust.

My cat told me that I was stupid to sit in the bath. She said that that even a little kitten knows not to sit in a puddle. She was very concerned by my lack of good sense.
