I mean the drawing 10 kills you just as dead as the life and this deck will never catch back up to that card advantage, and uro and ambusher eventually get 9 counters. A lot of temur recs showing up have a lot of creatures now especially post board with typhoon, borrower, uro, jolreal, ambusher and ooze showing up in lists. Also people have started sideboarding ugins though I doubt anyone would vs cats. But temur rec with m21 has been a weird balancing act of needing to beat mono red, and deal with aether gust and dispute being maindecked and narset teferi decks with jolreal. Its broken deck but the construction decisions are really varied and interesting which is a part of why its broken, wide enough range of broken stuff to do with rec in those colors that you can build it to beat anything.

Temur Rec is a matchup where I could see it maybe working, but in practice I'm not sure it's really helpful. The problem is our best way to beat Temur Rec is to be as aggressive as possible, and Nine Live doesn't really help there.

Yep, if you have Sovereign you cannot use the Savior to protect Rin and Seri. You can only protect the Sovereign.

You're totally right. I would argue, however, that with a board state full of cats the pride sovereign is probably one of the best targets to protect. It's removal activated ability is powerful and has the potential to swing games. Also, Selfless savior still does a great job of protecting other permanents until Feline sovereign arrives. I'm not implying that you meant the card was bad in the deck I just think what you pointed out is very interesting in context.

Oof, i know its a small misplay, but i thought id point it out, cause we all need all the help we can get against temur rec. Around 31:12, you attack into a nightpack ambusher, and then tribunal and play a land. But you could have played the land and your lion first and used it to pay for tribunal. You had 5 lands, so 2 for lion and 3 plus the lion for tribunal.

Dumb Against the Odds Idea: If pack rat is on top when it mutates pack rat enters as a mutated copy of itself. I think that could be an interesting deck.

My brother only has one copy of Rin and Seri, and I didn't think of using mutate creatures. But I did use Animal Sanctuary, a cat that allows you to put +1/+1 counters on others when it comes into play, pridemalkin, Kuwa's companion... Basically the only non creture cards were special lands that gain life, special lands that make counters on creatures, 2 copies of ajani to put counters on cretures, and only 4 spells of 3 track down and a single shock. Sideboard included a rambunctious mutt

For people mentioning Nine Lives against Temur Rec, remember they have Blast Zone, which can kill the turn after a big Expansion/Explosion (which digs to it) assuming Wilderness Rec is still on the battlefield. I could see it buying an extra turn or two in certain situations, though. The Bronzehide Lion did great work alongside the Cat Lords. Too bad Garrison Cat doesn't have lifelink or else Ajani's Pridemate would be a great 2 drop and you could just go Selesnya Cats. Lurrus could be fun in that deck too

There is a great diversity of decks this week on Arena I was mythic before the reset and it was 90% bant I went back to platinum with the reset and I've faced a variety of decks with some sweet ones you'd like. Especially the dimir teferi's tutelage mill deck. I'm sure you'll play a version on it one day. Glad you went 4-1 with this sweet deck :) I think I'll transform my edh Arahbo cat tribal deck into a Rin and Seri cat tribal deck :) I opened it in my collectors booster box :). Red offers 3 4 nice cards to add in a tribal deck even in a mostly selesnya deck.

unfortunately when you have Feline Sovereign in play selfless savior's active becomes pretty useless bc all your cats (rin and seri included) have protection from dogs and cant be targeted. so that's kinda an anti synergy bc of that line of text that ends up being useless in most cases bc when tf are you going to have a dog matchup? only case it becomes useful is in EDH if you cast something like Shields of Vilis Vil on your opponents field during a swing or if they have creature based removal.

If you're free to play, at first you want to build good decks, don't focus too soon on fun builds. Do NOT invest into cards that will rotate in the fall, it's coming pretty quickly. Avoid shocklands for example. The best value comes from drafting if you're a good-ish player. I like human drafting since you get passed more rares, especially when the set has been released for a little while. If you're slightly rare drafting (4 rares per draft) you're breaking even at a meager 2-3. More than that and it's a much much better return that simply buying draft packs. I personally save all my gold (1k per day amounts to 80-90k after 2 months) until a new set releases, then I draft around 10-12 times. Only AFTER I'm done drafting I open all my reward packs (for duplicate protection). With the leftover gems I buy the mastery pass which is good value especially for new players. It's quite some work and it probably requires you build a decent Constructed deck beforehand. But in a way it's a game within a game. Good luck!

Sadly (outside of rare drafting and making sure you hit your daily rewards as often as possible), there really isn't a trick. It just takes time. I tend to spend something like $100 or $150 each set on boosters so I can have all the cards right away for making content.

I think the challenge is the mana. The deck we played would be pretty cheap if you replaced all of the rare lands with uncommon lands (but it would also have issues since so many lands would come into play tapped).
