Gus the Theatre Cat is usually my least favorite number, entirely due to the fact that I prefer higher energy numbers, but I wholeheartedly loved this performance of Gus and it is very likely my favorite performance of the number I have seen to date. Both with Jellylorum’s wonderful voice (which strongly conveyed the loving and caring nature that is so essential for the number) and and how this Gus really felt old, both in voice and character, which, by the way, was just so beautiful to listen to. It made for a version of the number I deeply enjoyed. Even beyond that this entire production is filled to the brim with moments, big and small, that were fun, interesting or simply enjoyable to watch, and the designs of all the different cats are just great!
