awesome shirt! is there a way to do a vintage look without half tones?
@CatspitProductions5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah just like this. This was not done with a halftone. Rather it was done all in spot color with a vector distress pattern overlay. Check out the "distressed" playlist on my KZbin channel page to see the artwork video that has a link in the description to the same distressed patterns I used for this shirt. Thanks for watching! Hello Stewart. No, the music is done by a band on KZbin who gave me an entire album of instrumental tracks to use as background music. They are credited in the video description. The CureStar 4000 is an excellent dryer and is even capable of handling some automatic presses ;) Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the video. Hey those prints are really nice. I see that you are only one hitting them no flash (I assume for more of a distressed effect). What Mesh screen are you using on that print and are you using any additives in the ink to get a better effect?
@CatspitProductions5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I was printing gray ink on a dark shirt so I did not need as much ink volume printed. It's more to keep the print feeling soft, breathable and light feeling. It's also easier and faster to print. But yes, printing a thinner layer of ink will add to a distressed look as well. Thanks for watching! what is the best way to cure waterbased inks with a flash dryer?
@CatspitProductions7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if I know the "best way" but you have to do them one by one with rotary pallet ad ons or on a table. But a forced air flash is important any way you look at heat setting water based inks. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
@horaciorodriguez7547 жыл бұрын
CatspitProductions so what would be your recommended temperature and time to cure water based inks with a flash dryer?
@CatspitProductions7 жыл бұрын
I would check with the maker of your specific inks. But usually it's around 250 degrees F. You heat them as long as it takes for the solvents to evaporate and for the entire ink layer to reach 250. This can vary depending on how much ink you are printing.
@horaciorodriguez7547 жыл бұрын
CatspitProductions so I would need a forced air flash dryer? Because I only have a normal flash dryer
@CatspitProductions7 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. The forced air flash or belt dryer is ideal for water based or discharge. But that does not mean you cannot do it another way. You have to either let them dry by evaporation before heat setting or allow enough time for solvents to evaporate and for the pigments to heat set. You'll have to do a little trial an error to work it out. But you can do it.

I almost always gang up artwork, when it's a smaller print, it saves extra work burning, and reclaiming screens, although there's a bit of extra work in taping off, I often use the 'spare space' on a screen for novelty, personal shirts I want, and short run jobs. Generally, I'll put front and back on 2 different screens though, because I find it annoying if there's a misprint on the second printed side, to go back through and clean/re-tape off/ink/align/etc.. the first side, to re-do the misprinted one, and it saves wasted shirts printing extra 'just in case' (although, I still do that sometimes for my better customers, they always enjoy getting the extra 'free' ones, when I give them the defects/misprints/extras/test prints, I just mark the tags, and note them separately, so they won't mistake it for a production shirt) Love the bucket idea, have since I first saw the video demonstrating them. Will probably get a set (eventually) -Did you mention these shirts will be available? I'd like one!
@CatspitProductions9 жыл бұрын
+lostboytnt1 Yes, I gang up art when necessary as well. These days I don't do it as much since I basically print for Catspit only now. I did this especially for a video. The buckets and brushes are awesome. I do like 12 to 17 screens at a time so the spray bottle can cripple your hand....LOL. Customers always like some freebies. Yes, the shirts will be available on my eCommerce site after I give a few away on Instagram. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

I hope you can help me on this as I have not found anyone that can. I am printing an image using the program gimp. I am printing wording that has an American flag background in CYMK. However when I print the C Y M and K image on a transparency, it has a black box around the letters. Wont that black box print on the screen when screen when burning. How do I remove the black box....anyone. Thanks a million
@CatspitProductions8 жыл бұрын
+John Preston Yes, whatever is on the film positive will translate to screen. But I do not know Gimp at all and even if I did it would be difficult to say what is wrong from afar being blind to what you are doing. Thanks for watching. Can you guys tell which paper should i choose to print my picture which to be transfered to silkscreen for screen printing? OHP/ Transparency paper or simple Butter/ Tracing paper . Also do i need Laser or Inkjet? since when i use ohp/ transparency on Inkjet the printer ink doesn't stick on OHP/ Transparency paper?

Awesome vids! Question, how much pressure are you putting when applying the ink to the fabric? From the video, it looks like you are putting a pretty decent amount but I wanted to make sure.
@CatspitProductions6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Depending on the print job there could be decent pressure. You have to learn to use just enough pressure to sheer the ink and clear the mesh. No more. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

hey there and thanks for your videos, you know i am a big fan of yours! 2 Questions: 1. i see you put the graphic quite close to the screen edge. wouldn´t it be a lil more comfortable to put i a lil lower and move the platen more down. 2. what are the coloured buckets behind you for? thank you!
@CatspitProductions9 жыл бұрын
+Mister Onemoveahead Thank you! Glad you enjoy my work. The stencil is where it is because I ganged up artwork on the other side. I wanted to show how to gang art on film and screens so I did. I made a video about it previously. But yes, Ideally I would have used 2 screens and put the art more near the sweet spot. The buckets are part of my buckets and brush system for screen making. When you do nearly 20 screen at one time spray bottles can give you mad hand cramps. So I use brushes and buckets to apply my chemicals. I sell them as a set on my eCommerce site.
