@@Grahamkavanaghfarming First month of winter and still very close to bone dry. 6 mm last two days has freshened things. 35mm 17 days ago thats all been soaked up. Red meat forecast looks dismal but other than that all good. 😆

I was wondering why this lad said "sure look it" every 3 seconds so I looked it up and it's actually a saying.
@Grahamkavanaghfarming3 ай бұрын
Ya I say it a fair bit but I think everyone has a phrase they say frequently

Well done Graham, should be very happy with the cattle great weights and super grades. Docks seem to be problematic this year, what will you use against them?
@Grahamkavanaghfarming3 ай бұрын
we have used some grazon on a few patches in small fields seems to be working well don't know what to use on silage fields yet may see what the advice is

Must be the Angus breeders that are deciding on star ratings
@Grahamkavanaghfarming3 ай бұрын
nothing wrong with angus cattle either but there needs to be more than paper work when trying to improve breeding you have to use your eye aswell i think they are trying to run it inti the ground

Great cattle i didnt enter the stars as all my best cows were 1/2/3 star cows and having U and E grade calfs , can not see the point in it any more farmer should be able to keep what ever cows they want and not about the stars they have
@Grahamkavanaghfarming3 ай бұрын
I don’t agree with it either only in scheme to draw down the money too much in it to ignore the way the trade fluctuates so much you have to

Great content as always..whats the additive and why would you use it..I've heard of people using molasses. Is it something similar
@Grahamkavanaghfarming3 ай бұрын
alltech Egalis its an inoculant adding microorganisms to increase the rate of fermenting and preserve the silage quicker, molasses was used to increase the amount of sugars in silage allowing the bacteria present to grow in number with fermenting taking longer. thats the theory anyway that is why im doing my own test to see if it works am after hearing of a lot of products over the years

Great content as always and quality stock Graham. What is your finishing ration? Do you go for straights and mix yourself or buy the finished ration in?
@Grahamkavanaghfarming3 ай бұрын
ration works out around 14% we have a 19% blend mixed and add rolled barley and maize meal adding more getting nearer finishing increasing the energy content to add fat cover

Why do contractors put the swarths into big rows?
@Grahamkavanaghfarming3 ай бұрын
If your machine can handle it they can cover ground quicker less pass up and down field also the big row they don’t have to travel as fast as in small row easier on machine
