It's hard to see that damage to your corn. I'm amazed at how calm you are about it. But then I also know that you've had cattle get out as well, and most of the time neighbors do what they can to keep cattle corralled. It just happen some time. Good luck on your corn yeild... great video Ryan....

august yeah, he did say it looked like the neighbor removed the cattle in a timely manner. It's hard to take a hit on the damage, but on the other hand it's hard to live with a neighbor that you are continually at war with. The best outcome would be if the neighbor offered compensation.

That is my biggest worry as a cattle farmer, that and them getting out and on to the road and causing an accident. Luckily my own fields border my pasture, and they have gotten out in them before but damage was minimal. In your case I would brush it off and not cause a stink like you said, it doesn't appear to be too bad.

At least you have the option of seeking restitution. In Wyoming we still have antiquated laws that say I have to fence the cows out of my fields.

This is one type of incident for which your drone really does help protect your bottom line. Sure, it's there to help you make videos that entertain us (and we're definitely thankful for that). Between this and your security cameras, you have some very useful risk management tools at your disposal. A drone is not a practical investment for me, but it makes total sense for you and others who have real estate and facilities to protect. Thanks for the video!

I think for now being at peace with the neighbor might be worth it's weight in gold. The drone is key and saved you lots of time walking through the field. Also that a you had a problem planting might hurt efforts for restitution in court. If it was worse that would still play a factor. Well hope the corn is good. WTFarm Girl crop insurance won't cover that unless the total yield is down. Liability insurance might but you would have to prove its not deer and it's cattle. You know insurance won't pay anything unless it has too.

When i was dairying in nys i had a deer problem so bad that i had to contact fish an game and they came out agreed an issued special hunting tags to thin the deer population only hunters registered with the program could shoot the deer does only .The meat was all donated to charities
@SlipShodBob6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Gixer now be fair you'd know they would pay out right up until they discover the maize is over 60 inches as in the small print it states that they will only cover it up to 60 inches in height. Mind you I was following one farmer who farms in Somerset and in the floods all his field were under and it came close to flooding his house and barns his neighbours called him a fool because of who he insured with and the fact there were other cheaper ones but they offered to put him up in a hotel if it was needed and as soon as the waters went down the adjuster came out looked around and transferred the money into his account then and there for feed and bedding for the animals and gave him help and advise and promptly paid all the invoices so his fields were cleaned up and his business was back on course quickly. His neighbours were still struggling three years later and were still fighting their claim with their insurers.
@jeffgixer51856 жыл бұрын
Michael Corning they do that here in Wisconsin too. They can be a huge problem in some areas.
@StreuB16 жыл бұрын
Up here in northern IL they did the same thing 3-4 years ago. Deer were really bad and they issued 50 special rifle tags (IL is a no-rifle state) for vetted hunters. IDNR set up stands in specific locations, baited and then set up the time periods for the "snipers" to come in. Once the hunters were done, they delivered the deer to a drop off location where then a selected processor would come once a day and pick up. This was in the winter so spoilage wasn't an issue. I think they knocked the population down the 150 head they needed to in 2-3 weeks. Highly efficient and lots of good meat went to people who needed it.

But mainly it’s a dust bowl here, smack dab in the middle of Desha County there is almost ALWAYS a split in a storm system so by the time it hits us it has disappeared for the most part and we may get lucky to get .02”. Irks my soul when people don't put up proper fencing. There's really no excuse for cattle getting out into the neighbors plots if the fencing is up to par. Too often people put up shabby fencing, throw a little electricity to it, and call it "good-to-go". Few strands of barb wire, metal fence posts (barely tapped in) and let's put a couple strands of Electric to it over a 2 mile stretch, and hey! We can keep buffalo in here. Then to make matters worse, they don't inspect it several times a year. Yep. Good-to-go. Time for a little rant. My late father wasn't a lifetime farmer per say. Yes, we had a small farm, 60 acres, and he worked for the airlines. But one thing he knew how to do (from his youth) was put up a fence. And it all started with the corners. Railroad ties were the standard. And they weren't pounded in with a post driver. Yeah, we drilled a tap hole and posthole diggers for the rest. Tamp em in by hand. And none of that new fangled useless tightening/twisting stuff either (seen enough of that garbage, and people actually use it cause it's easy). Double #9 wire twisted by hand. Woven wire stretched by an 8n ford, and 2 strands barb wire stretched with a rope pulley stretcher. Typical configuration was 1 wooden post, 4 steel posts. If the run was extensive, we'd put another double railroad tie setup in the middle. Fence was put up in 1969. and guess what, it's still as taught as it was the day we built it. Never had a cow get outta there or into. Our neighbor who shared the burden, had a falling out because he wanted to just lay some wire on some steel posts. Never talked to my father til the day he passed away after that. Silly man. Bottom line, if you put up a fence, put up a damn fence. Not some type of an ill gotten bandaid. And if yer neighbors don't want to participate in cost or labor, Fek em.
@buckhorncortez6 жыл бұрын
Depends upon where you live. In New Mexico, if you're a farmer, it's up to you to fence the cattle out according to the State's fence laws, Article 16 Fences; section 77-16-1: "Every gardener, farmer, planter or other person having lands or crops that would be injured by trespassing animals, shall make a sufficient fence about his land in cultivation, or other lands that may be so injured, the same to correspond with the requirements of the laws of this state prescribing and defining a legal fence." Hope your soul can make it through that one...
@kenarnold91326 жыл бұрын
So basically, if I have a garden (be it flower, veggie or cannabis) and my neighbor has several pit bulls, it's my responsibility to keep my family safe from their animals, and stop em from pissing on me carrots? Nice law. Suppose you can still beat your wife on every day but Sunday.
@lukestrawwalker6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the state... some states have "fence in" laws and some are "fence out" laws... IOW some states require you to "fence in" your livestock to keep them off neighboring property... some are "fence out" meaning most folks have livestock and not crops, so if you want to grow a crop, it's your problem to keep the livestock out the crops YOU want to grow... Later! OL J R :)
@buckhorncortez6 жыл бұрын
Gosh Ken...the one thing you can't beat is the stupid you've demonstrated with your comment. What does assault have to do with fence laws? Care to explain? As far as I know, pit bulls don't really care about gardens...at least the three I've owned haven't. So your carrots would be just fine. The rabbits, on the other hand, are a completely different story and, yes, it's up to you to keep the rabbits away from YOUR carrots.
