I never liked repotting orchids. This video has helped. I have 3 of what I call potting nightmares, 3 overgrown cattleyas in 4 inch pots that when divided will be about 8 plants. Unfortunately living in NW Ohio now is not the time to repot. Thank you for this video. I subscribed tonight and look forward to more helpful tips and tricks.

Hi Tim, thank you for subscribing and I’m glad this video helped your nightmares. Yes, the cold weather makes it hard to repot many plants but luckily some will go dormant and require less maintenance until Spring. We will cover more orchids and their specific care in the future.

What media do you use for repot? I can see charcoal… thanks for the video.

We use chunky bark, perlite and horticultural charcoal. You can find these ingredients pretty easy but if it is not available near you then come grab our mix from our shop.

How do you feel about planting them on wood / logs / mounts ?

Cattleyas are epiphytic by nature so mounting them on a porous surface like a log is great! We also offer potting/mounting classes if you’re ever interested.
