Caturday Kayaking with Louis - A Magical Encounter with a Kingfisher! 🛶 🐦 ✨

On this beautiful Caturday, February 1st, we set out for a peaceful kayaking trip-when, at minute 4:20, something incredible happened: a stunning kingfisher crossed our path! 🐦💙
This is more than just a lucky moment-it’s a reminder of how fragile these birds’ habitats are. Tomorrow, February 2nd, is the International Day of Wetlands, and we want to raise awareness about the importance of protecting them!
Kingfishers depend on clean rivers, lakes, and wetlands for survival. But pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change are threatening their homes. Louis clearly savouring the experience and lingering a bit before leaving the boat area. My friend had a canoe at his float home and I would bring my kayak to his place, his cat would go in the canoe quite often with him, and sometimes with me in the kayak. We would get back to the cabin for lunch and later not find the cat, but she would be all curled up in the bow of the kayak having her afternoon siesta on a warm sunny day. It was a truly wonderful experience when the cat would come boating with us. Thank you for sharing your experiences with Louis, absolutely beautiful.

Missed the Kingfisher. I have seen them years ago while paddling the Örtze. Louis is such a chilled dude. A bit distracted by the birds though. His winter coat is beautiful. Our old man does not want to go outside anymore as long as it is a bit breezy and cold. He has some issues with his joints (sadly quite common with MCs) so his fur is still in summer mode and he just likes to hang around on a sunny spot on a rug behind the big window.

Louis is a great kitty. He reminds me of my Scout, who went out one day and didn’t return. Her fur was big and bushy, she wasn’t comfortable with being groomed AT ALL! Now and then I had to have her shaved because she got mats. Without all that fur, she was quite small. I miss her.

I didn’t see a kingfisher either! We have noisy Belted Kingfishers where I live. I call them braggart birds. The brag about what they’re going to catch, swoop down bragging about what they’re about to catch, emerge with beak full of fish and brag all about it as it flies away!

On a laptop with 4K(2160p) setting, I was able to see a small bird in 4:21 17-30 frames, 4:22 1-5,16-30 frames, and 4:23 1-9 frames. Cats have good dynamic vision, so Louis may have noticed it, but he didn't seem to be following it with his eyes.

@4:21 The Kingfisher flies from the right bushes/trees to the left. It happens just before Louis looks to the right so it probably was flying away from whatever caught Louis’ attention.
