Wow, thanks for the send off Nova Scotia! 😅Since filming and editing this video, Hurricane Fiona has now left and we are starting to see the damage she's left behind. Thankfully no-one was badly hurt as far as we know, but homes have been washed away and properties damaged. Our hearts go out to those, especially in Newfoundland where entire houses washed into the sea. We're so grateful we made it off Cape Breton and to somewhere safe. Again, our biggest thanks to Nova Scotians who offered us a place to stay. You guys have made this trip for us. We love you and we will certainly be back 💛

Storm chips are for when the power goes out and you can't cook or prepare anything in the dark. That hunter in Cape Breton was probably poaching, there are no firearm seasons open right now (archery is, and black powder opens Sept 26). Glad you have loved Nova Scotia! Sorry your Skyline hike was fogged out, but between sunshine, fog, and hurricane, you sure got the true Atlantic Canada experience!

Aw thank you Jenny 🥰🥰 I think they’re a bit more colourful and interesting than what we did before! That hike promises so much… moose, world class views, bears. And we saw the inside of a cloud. You win some you lose some 😂 Xxx

Glad you stayed safe ! We are into day 3 now of no power but it’s nothing to the tragic impact in Other areas of Atlantic Canada, this was a massive storm

As we’ve driven further north from the Valley we’ve seen so much destruction from the storm 😔 Hope you guys are holding up okay!

Wow, what a week! To say you've seen it all is a bit of an understatement. But, then, smooth seas never made great sailors, or something like that! The Cabot Trail looks incredible, atmospheric and moody in the misty weather, even if it wasn't as 'pretty' as the popular shots, it still looks amazing! Um, want/need me to post you guys some proper Scottish 'Mac' waterproofs?? LOL, looks like you're getting a right royal dousing in the fall weather. Seriously, just give me a'hoy if you do. So relieved to see you're all safe n sound after Fiona - and that the hounds didn't tear the van apart with cabin-fever! Have a great week, and here's to the open road!! xx

Aye those waterproofs did us well! 😂 Smooth seas never make great sailors is one of my fave quotes Kit! Yeah we have to admit we don't hate the misty weather... gives everything such an eerie atmosphere. Fog and hurricanes, not what we ordered though 😆 Let's see what the next month brings?! Sending much love xx 💕

that's a shame it was so foggy, I've been along the trail hundreds of times and I've never been in the fog. Must been the weather that was approaching I guess. it's definitely gorgeous on a nice beautiful sunny day.

Great video again! I'm glad you saw enough of Cape Breton to get a good sense of it before having to leave. The last time I was on Cape Breton, we had to race home to beat the arrival of Hurricane Juan!

And it happened on September 24th, too!

Thank you!! Ah you’ve also had to do the hurricane dash away to safety! We have unfinished business on Cape Breton.. we’ll just have to come back 🙂 💛

That blows my mind! Had to Google that too! 🤯

Your visit and video makes me want to return and take my partner for her first time there! She hasn't seen your video yet but we will snuggle up tonight and watch it and probably make plans for next fall!

Glad to hear you guys made out ok. Been following along since you first got to NS. I'm originally from the Valley and it looks like it was one of the better parts of the province you could have waited out the storm. I wish you both the best on the rest of your adventure and thank you for taking us all along.
@OverlandingSophia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tony! Yep, it really didn't seem too bad. We drove up towards Truro today and have seen three houses with trees fallen on them, countless uprooted trees, fallen power lines. We turned around on a walk today because there were so many fallen trees blocking the path, we climbed over 10 or so before giving up. It was carnage. Thank you for joining us on the journey too, couldn't have asked for a better place to start the adventure! 💛

Glad to hear the The Big Fiddle survived the storm! That was great news. I'm still sending my thoughts to those impacted by the storm. Maritimers seem tough but incredibly warm.

They are tough and incredibly warm, such awesome people 💛 We wanted to watch some live Celtic music before we left Cape Breton but Fiona had other ideas! 😔

Thanks for visiting Nova Scotia, sorry you had to get hit by the hurricane. I was definitely a bad one.

Love watching your journey unfold here in Nova Scotia. I moved here from Newfoundland two years ago. One day, you should really try to see that spectacular province. How courageous of you to plan to drive all the way to Argentina! I will fly there in January, not driving, but may one day. Look forward to your weekly posts! Be careful!
@OverlandingSophia2 жыл бұрын
We would LOVE to visit Newfoundland! But we don't want to rush - and we think if we squeezed Nova Scotia and Newfoundland into a few weeks we would be missing out on so much, so we will save it for a time we can do it justice 💛 If you have any Argentina tips and recommendations when you get back, we're all ears! 🥰 Safe travels Lynne! xx

Such a great video. Glad you survived Fiona. The winds were incredible and so sad to see all the damage around our province. We did the drive to Meat Cove a few weeks ago and it is a wild one. So sad to see the devastation in the some of the places we visited.Heading back up in a few weeks for the fall colours and will be curious to see how Cape Breton is faring in the aftermath 😊
@OverlandingSophia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sara, hope you guys made it through okay. While it was pretty sheltered where we were, we drove to Truro over the weekend and the devastation was unbelievable. So many trees in houses! Fallen powerlines. We had to turn around on a hike because every other tree had fallen across the path. It was carnage. I saw a road we drove on in Cape Breton has washed away! So awful 😞 Will be interesting to see how it is in a few weeks for you. Hope you don't get as much fog as we did! 💛

We Canadians are used to the pavement ends signs , as they're like that across the whole country. Some of them in Manitoba don't say pavement ends , it's a picture of pavement and supposed gravel road. together. lol Safe travels to you guys and the doggies !!!!!
@floyd22222 жыл бұрын
In Quebec, too, that funky sign - you are in the gravel by the time you figure out what the sign meant??!!! Brutal (sometimes!!!) ;-)

At one time the Cabot Trail was a wooden road (or a corduroy road). That was back in the early days of motoring. BTW - you don't have to put the Starlink on the roof. Anywhere on the ground works too, as long as it has a good view of the sky. I had mine in the backyard for a month or so until I put it up on my roof. LOL - Storm chips! Yes you are an honourary Nova Scotian now! You made a good call to get away to where you did. Cape Breton and PEI saw some pretty major damage.
@OverlandingSophia2 жыл бұрын
Meat Cove and those communities must have been SO remote before the road the onslaught of tourism! Coming from the UK where you're never far from anywhere, it blows our minds. And this is probably not remote for Canada 😅 And yes, we know the Starlink can go on the floor but it's easier for us on the roof, keeps it out the way and we can run the cable through the back doors 😊 💛

You were actually in our town for the hurricane. Believe I or not, I actually looked for you as we drove through New Minas past Walmart about 6pm on Friday. I didn't see you though. I'm so thankful you made it back and rode out the storm safely. Hope you have safe travels on the rest of your journey. I am enjoying traveling along with you, recognizing many places you are visiting. Thanks for the videos and will continue to watch. 🙂

We were out near Marks and Sportchek! Couldn't believe how sheltered it was there after seeing the aftermath of Fiona in other parts of Nova Scotia. Who knew Walmart car parks would be such a great place for us 😆 Really hope you enjoy the rest of our adventure, and thank you for continuing to ride along with us! 🥰

We saw our first moose on the Skyline Trail... were also warned about the Coyote as a young girl had been killed. If you're going south on Nova Scotia, a must place to visit is Kejimkujik National Park. From the highway towards Moncton, we also saw our first black bear...
@OverlandingSophia2 жыл бұрын
No way! We kept looking out for a moose but they had better sense than to be out in that weather 😅 We visited Kejimkujik a few weeks back, absolutely loved it there! And would you believe it, we’re driving that very highway as I type this. Now I’m like this out the window 👀 👀

If you're driving across the US, get an "America the Beautiful Pass". It cost $80 and you can get one at any US National Park. It gets you admission to most National Parks across the US for a full year.

Very relieved that you guys managed to stay our of harm's way. I thought about the four I you when I heard that the hurricane was heading right towards Cape Breton. I've been to that Walmart in New Minas, as my ex-GF's parents lived there. Very cool to see some obscure place I've been to appear on a popular KZbin channels such as yours. All the best on the rest of your Canadian journey. I hope it's more tranquil, yet interesting.
